  1. They now have $4MM to offer him, which I can't believe he'd turn down.
  2. Stearns seems to run a pretty tight ship when it comes to info leaking out about potential moves, so I take any reports like this with a huge, HH19-sized grain of salt. That being said, I think it's interesting that they might be looking at guys that can also play 3B. I hope that's not a sign that Shaw's injury might be worse than they're letting on.
  3. Up to three games missed...so far. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  4. Yet another opportunity to use the 10-day DL instead of Braun sitting unavailable on the bench for 7 days.
  5. I'll second the tax aspect considerations. Keep in mind that if you're investing in mutual funds, the managers of those funds are buying and selling stocks within the funds, likely creating capital gains (on which you get the privilege of paying taxes). I invested on my own for years, but then also received an inheritance that was more than what I had previously invested. At that point, I turned to a professional to manage all my investments. There's value in having someone coordinate all your investments - as you likely have (or will have) several different buckets. In my case, I have the inherited account, a rollover IRA from previous jobs, and my current job 401k. My guy makes sure my overall picture is the mix of investment vehicles, risk profiles, and taxable income generation (or tax loss harvesting) fits with what I'm comfortable doing.
  6. If Perez or Arcia start tonight we'll have immovable object vs. unstoppable force.
  7. Starting pitchers have routines between starts that aren't easily changed because they threw 80 pitches instead of 100. Moving everyone to consistently pitch on 3-days rest is a huge change.
  8. Live look-in at Briggs:
  9. I think the recent Zach Davies news should cause some pumping-of-the-brakes on the Nelson optimism. Davies is coming back from minor shoulder trouble (particularly when compared to Nelson) and is experiencing soreness and generally crappy pitching, to the point where he might go back on the DL. I continue to think that anything the Brewers get from Nelson this year will be a bonus.
  10. In the bottom of the 9th, in a tie game, no less!
  11. Matz is the type of LHP that Braun used to absolutely destroy. Hopefully this provides a nice springboard off the DL for him.
  12. I wish they'd use more of the sideline reporter in-game. I like that some of the national broadcasts regularly talk to the sideline reporter next to the dugout (Olney, Rosenthal, etc.). I think that insight into the dugout is entertaining.
  13. I think she's done pretty well. The fact that she's bilingual adds an element that few (any?) other sideline reporters have.
  14. I liked it better last year when he was hitting all those doubles and someone (I can't remember if it was here or Twitter) coined the nickname "The Comptroller of Doublesville."
  15. If Braun can't play, then Yelich needs to be in there, even if it is a "scheduled" day off. I was really hoping to not see Perez in the outfield at all this year. Clearly that was wishful thinking.
  16. There will always be people here that are against trading any of #TehProspectz, especially ones they've seen in person in the minors. But back to Heyman, he always seems to mention the Brewers. I think his wife is from Milwaukee, so he probably follows the Brewers slightly more than most of the the other lazy sportswriters (looking in Jim Bowden's general direction).
  17. I had just the opposite with my ex-wife. She would text me a question, to which I would answer immediately (within seconds) and ask a follow up question. Of course, I would get no response. I always wondered if she hit "send" and then threw her phone.
  18. Wow, Matt Harvey DFA. That was a quick fall.
  19. Can we stop using a coaches stats as a player to judge him as a coach? Because Coles accomplished miles more as a professional player than Johnson ever did. And Rod Carew might have been the worst hitting coach the Brewers ever had.
  20. My guess is that they'll use this to ultimately find a spot for Vogt as a bench bat/3rd catcher/once-in-a-while-because-he's-a-gritty-veteran 1B. There might be a little time in between when Thames goes on the DL and when Vogt's rehab assignment is complete, so maybe they'll call up Philips or Choi for a few days, but I don't think they'll stick, as the organization seems to like Bandy and Vogt, and this will buy them time in trying to figure out what to do with one of them.
  21. During the offseason, I was excited at the possibility of Toronto struggling and then trading Stroman. While that may still happen, he's been awful. I know it's a small sample, but I wonder if the shoulder stuff in spring training was more than just "inflammation."
  22. So...no chocolate cactus bread for you? #WhoAreTheAdWizardsWhoCameUpWithThisOne
  23. The problem with that is that teams like MKE will get a disproportionate number of early season home games. I'm sure they would prefer home games in the summer when the weather is nicer, and more importantly, kids are out of school.
  24. Already tired of Perez in the OF. I had hoped that with the Cain & Yelich acquisitions, we wouldn't be subjected to him in a corner OF spot anymore. I can't wait for them to DL Braun or Thames on Friday.
