  1. I agree Jim. SE Wisconsin has a pre-existing interest in architecture, thanks to Wright. Make it a place that is a talking point. If they put up a Barclay's Center, it'll just be another box. Miller Park is a beautiful building, one up it.
  2. Yep, I've taken a few trips to Syracuse now to finish my Masters, and the "beef on weck" sandwich is popular in the area. It's basically a bun topped with salt and caraway (?) seeds, I believe. Pretty tasty, comparable to a french dip.
  3. I peruse the Cardinal boards on occasion, just to enjoy the local flavor. There have been 2 Brewer related posts of late. One saying that if their pitching holds up, they are going to be scary. The other started with a poster questioning Braun's 3 HR, and other posters telling him he was an idiot. All Cardinal nation wants right now is for Allen Craig to be DFA'd, Lance Lynn sent to AAA, and Jon Jay and Peter Bourjos to be sent to another planet. Also, they would like Yadi immediately enshrined in Cooperstown, as he is going there without a doubt.
  4. I thought it was telling that "You Know You're Right" sounded like everything else on the radio when it was released around 2002. It had been recorded years previously, they were ahead of the times...always.
  5. I disagree. I don't think a successful bunt or two changes the shift. I wouldn't say I'm forgiving of professional athletes, but I don't expect them to be good at something that really isn't a part of their job. I don't want my sluggers stealing bases either, although they *should* be able to. I think this is a prime example of over thinking numbers. The reason teams don't do this is because it's bad baseball. It's bad strategy. You are taking the bat out of your best player's hands, and relying on lesser players to succeed. Not everything is numbers, unpopular opinion or not. It should be used occasionally, as any gimmick should.
  6. My buddy does that kind of work, replaces/fixes smart phones. He is down here in STL. If you can't find a place local, let me know. I'm sure shipping it down here would be better than dealing with it for 2 years.
  7. I think WOJO is a big name for Marquette. For those who speak of the Coach K tree, 2 of his guys pulled upsets this tourney (Stanford/Harvard). I liked Buzz, but he was more recruiter than coach (in the Calipari line). Wojo is a smart guy, I'm sure he learned how to run a team from K, and I hope he can turn it into something.
  8. I disagree with the premise that they would successfully bunt at a rate comparable to those who practice the skill, and I don't want my superstar wasting his time practicing it. Additionally, these guys are paid tens of millions to swing from the heels, that is their job. Other players bunt, so that these guys can swing. I don't care if they're on first base, they aren't disrupting my pitcher's timing, a pitcher can just about pitch from windup with Ortiz on 1B. They, for the most part, are slow base cloggers. If I'm an opposing manager, I'm thrilled if David Ortiz or Prince Fielder is bunting. It takes the bat out of the hands of the biggest threat of my opposition. The risk of injury would also rise. A guy who never bunts is more likely to take one off the hand. To me, this is comparable to saying that Dwight Howard should shoot 3 pointers, because there is a 40% league average success rate, and people don't defend him beyond the arc.
  9. I'm guessing O too. By hockey rules, if the player's name ends with the eee sound, it's often correct to shorten it. An example is in St Louis, TJ Oshie is referred to as Osh.
  10. Did anyone else see Josh Reddick's highlights from yesterday? Robbed 2 Mike Morse home runs. Absolutely amazing grabs over a 10 foot fence. Hooray for the return of baseball!
  11. The time to pick up an additional 1 was when Gortat was traded. People are clinging to picks this year, and there was no one we could send at the deadline that was worth a 1. It's hard to build a winner when all that is available to you are money chasers. You have to draft well, and I can't really argue his last handful of picks. They just haven't been in a position to draft a franchise guy. Milwaukee can never and will never build a successful team through free agency. The knock on Hammond from me is wasteful spending. However, I'm guessing he was told to blow that money on whoever would come. I understand Butler, because he actually wanted to play here. Mayo could have paid off, but my guess is he'll get moved when some more of his contract is used. He's a useful guy on a good team, but not an alpha dog.
  12. We draft day traded for Ray Allen, he had a rookie level contract. I can think of a few over the last few decades, but I agree with your point. Cassell, Tim Thomas, Salmons (before the extension), Kukoc, Ridnour (first go round), all were reasonably productive. Not much lately in that department.
  13. Some may disagree with me, but the whole "start in the mail room" thing still can work. I'm not sure what the statistical proof to the adage "it's easier to find a job if you already have one" is, but there is merit to the statement. Many companies prefer to promote from within, and offer some positions only internally. If you find a place that you like, getting any job there may be the foot in the door that you need to get the job you actually want.
  14. From what I understand re:Hunger Games, the majority of the filming is done, they just needed him for a few more scenes. Like was mentioned, the alternate POV, as well as CGI should finish it out. FWIW, he has a fairly large role in the third book. Yes, I'm admitting to reading the series.
  15. I live in STL. This is as absolutely deep as Holliday gets. Brain cells are at a premium, and he doesn't like to tire both of his out at the same time.
  16. We bought the smaller one for my son for school, and it is more than enough. We bought the larger one for my wife's office, and when working on it, I always felt I was sitting too close. They are really nice computers.
  17. It's funny you say that Casey. When I worked server customer support for a major financial data company, that was one of the main rules. Call back when you say you will, even if you don't have any news. We had one customer who loved to call in if we were a minute past our promised call time and throw a fit. Managers would inspect our tickets, and call times to ensure we were meeting those standards. Apparently, the company philosophy was, put out a lousy product, but support it well. Then they decided to offshore support and change the philosophy to "lousy product, lousier support"
  18. My father in law passed last Friday. He was a part of our everyday lives. It was sudden, and there was no warning. No goodbyes were said. This is the hardest thing I've ever gone through, and I've gone through some stuff. 2014 is not my friend so far.
  19. I agree, a penalty for signing big names would be good, but it wouldn't stop any decent team from doing it. There is rarely talent outside of the lottery that makes a significant impact. I would guess Miami wouldn't think twice about giving up the 30th pick for a marquee name. These teams often give up their late firsts, because they don't want the guaranteed salary. Personally, and I know this is impossible, but I would like to see a salary slot structure. You have 15 players on your team. It would structure like this: 1 $15 million dollar slot 2 $10 million dollar slot 2 $ 8 million dollar slots 3 $ 5 million dollar slots 3 $ 2 million dollar slots 2 $ 1 million dollar slots 2 $500 K dollar slots This would give everyone a payroll of $74 million annually. There are billionaires lining up to buy franchises. If you want to own an NBA team, this is the price of business annually. I think this would increase parity, and make strategy important. You want LBJ, Wade and Bosh? Figure out which one gets the 15, and if the other 2 will take 10. Additionally, this should avoid the nasty Maggette/Gooden/Salmons contracts. Hell, the players would barely need agents. They could look at who has what salaries available and apply within.
  20. I had an idea for a restaurant, in which all food was served in the form of nachos. Obviously, not using nacho chips for everything. But presentation and concept. Everyone loves nachos. Nobody likes my idea.
  21. We kinda did the poor man's version of this by trading KRod for Delmonico. At least Melvin was on the same page.
  22. I agree with JJ, that's a pretty fair price.
  23. Christmas Vacation is the only mandatory in my household. Others that are highly encouraged include... Scrooged Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer Frosty the Snowman Elf Home Alone It's a Wonderful Life I used to include Christmas Story, but watched it so much that it is now unwatchable to me...
  24. Kalle, Italy didn't get a very easy draw either, there are multiple groups of death! I think the Italy-England game could be a highlight of the tournament!
  25. How do you win scoring 78 points in the NBA? Wow, there are some bad teams!
