  1. The hold out for a haul technique worked well for Friedman in Tampa, seems Melvin is giving it a shot. I think we still see some turnover in the next few days. My guess (I won't commit to who), but someone will move that gives us a "wow" on the return. I think Lind moves, Parra, 2 assorted relievers, and maybe Segura. I don't think Gomez goes anywhere. I think out of those guys, one brings us back more than we thought. If I'm wrong, well, won't be the first time
  2. Thirded. My wife is a nurse practitioner, and until recently, worked crazy hours. I have a special needs 8 year old, and a 3 year old. I love them more than anything in the world. However, it would be easier to work 12 hour shifts all weekend, than have to keep them occupied and entertained. They wear me out more than work does. Stay at home parents and day care providers have the hardest jobs around.
  3. In response to the issue of the new shiny cards being crap for autos, try rubbing a little baby powder on them before you send them. It removes the gloss, and gives it a better texture to sign, without really affecting the overall look of the card. Practice on some garbage cards.
  4. A summary of the feeling in STL. "Haters gonna Hate". One out of 20 may actually admit that this is bad. Most believe it is a rogue computer nerd who didn't accomplish anything and was working out of mom's basement. They love it when I refer to them as the STL Patriots in conversation. It's not getting old either, the reactions are priceless
  5. I think the difference making big man is a rarity in the league now, and not a necessity. Neither finals team features one. Rim protection is all that is really needed, anything else is a bonus. As I said earlier in this thread, unfortunately Larry Sanders is the perfect big man for this team.
  6. Must go to Oklahoma Joe's BBQ. I believe it's on the Kansas side, it's in an old gas station. Amazing food. Schlitterbon is fun, if you want to spend a day at a water park. All the stuff we did was kid oriented, so not sure I'd be much help. The Crown plaza area has a lot of stuff...
  7. Colby, Do you have any thoughts on Chris Holba? He's a local kid, and plays on the summer team of a coworker's son. Will he get drafted, much of a prospect?
  8. Are you sure you're not thinking of Brooks Lopez? I didn't think their games were that similar. I seem to recall Robin being more defense heavy/offense lacking.
  9. We suck at developing pitching, it isn't that we haven't drafted talented players, we just haven't done anything with them. I think we're smart to follow Theo's plan in Chicago. Grab as many high level hitters as you can, and trade them for pitching as you need it. Actually, Theo's following Doug's plan (and I'm sure many before him), it's just not considered revolutionary until Theo does it.
  10. It's still pretty fresh, but I would think Whitewater athletics would be an interesting story.
  11. Cauley-Stine flopping would be based purely on offensive expectations. Barring injury, he will keep a job for a long time as a defender. If he develops any offense, that is the cherry on top. I'd love to see us trade up for Kaminsky, he's not the rim defender we need, but he'd be a helluva stretch 4 in Kidd's offense.
  12. Saw an interesting trade suggestion on a Wizards site this morning. Ersan + Mayo for Nene and Dajuan Blair Not sure what I think about this. Nene would give us a post presence we don't have, but I'm not sure he is a Kidd guy. His issues are health and motor, and not sure he could play in Kidd's defense. Blair would be some extra bulk. Salaries match up. I'm rather indifferent to Ilyasova, I think he is replacable. I really liked Mayo as our 6th man. I think that is the best role for him. I think it would be harder to replace his production. Thoughts?
  13. I thought Zaza was adequate for what the team was trying to do this year. I wouldn't mind seeing Asik if he is available. Unfortunately, the prototype C for this team would be a Larry Sanders. If Minnesota drafts big, I would be happy to try and steal Dieng from them. With what Kidd is doing, I think they benefit more from spending money on a sharp shooter, than a big.
  14. As a Syracuse Alum, I'm glad to see these guys on the Bucks. As a fan of the Bucks this year, I think they may have some growing pains for a bit. Really interesting trade. I would say they maximized value for Knight.
  15. Love Ennis in this. MCW could benefit from some time with Kidd. Shocked they did this right now, guessing we're sending a pick or 2 to Philly in this too. MCW has a lot of the same game as Knight, Ennis was so blocked, and really should have stayed at Cuse. I think this trade hurts them this year, helps them long term. Plumlee could be useful, at least he's an energy guy.
  16. I like Kanter a lot. I'm not sure he fits in on this team, I haven't seen enough of him defensively, but I like his game around the basket. I'm guessing Utah is going to want a king's ransom for him. I wouldn't part with core for him, but I'd give up someone like Sanders or O'Bryant and a 2 for him. Doubt that would be enough.
  17. This team feels like a chemistry team to me. I'm not sure introducing a specialist, or a scorer will help. To find someone who can specialize, and play the D that Kidd expects would be tough. I enjoy watching this team, at the beginning of the year, I thought they would be fun to watch, but not have the talent to compete. They are incredibly fun to watch, and they've been highly competitive. I agree with Geezy, I don't think they've been outclassed that often, regardless of record. They're scary as a 5 or a 6 seed.
  18. The amnesty clause was a one time deal, if I'm not mistaken. You were allowed to use it on a player who signed prior to the new CBA.
  19. Eye test for me, but Pudge seemed to shrink in half at the same time they started testing. At this point, can we just assume that every player in that era either used, or enabled others by not making a big deal out of it? Treat it as what it is, a specific era in the sport, and move on.
  20. I think it was on Grantland that someone jokingly suggested Rex Ryan. That would be amazing. Would be nice to see a personality at coach again. I thought I read Alvarez said he is going to go with an experienced coach this time. I'm interested to see who he brings in.
  21. He's an O-Lineman, right? Better chance of getting the 1/1s of those guys, as they are more reasonable, and not as sought after. The tough part is that the best time to get them is immediately following set release. That is when ebay is hottest. I began trying to stockpile a specific Robin Yount patch card when I noticed I had a few. It was /50, and I started 2 years after release. I think I wound up with like 13 of them, but haven't seen one on the bay in over 3 years.
  22. Often, they have a different color, or are strictly available from either Retail or Hobby. Often happens with Parallels/Inserts. They're only available in one or the other.
  23. I'm not sure I agree with the Dekker analysis. I'm not sure about his ankle either, so I won't take that into account. I don't think Bo wants Dekker being more assertive. He seems to have the shortest leash on the team. Turnover or a missed shot and he is pulled. There are times when he does assert himself, in the Bahamas, and for a few last night. I don't want him shooting, I want him slashing into the lane every time he touches the ball. He seems afraid to make a mistake, and no one succeeds playing like that. Dukan seemed a bit intimidated last night, Kaminsky looked great, I thought Gasser held his own. Hayes was off, and foul trouble didn't help. Jackson's huge second half probably guarantees a loss later in the season when he tries to repeat it. Duke was on fire. It's hard to lock down perimeter D with Okafor inside. Duke would have beaten anyone in the country last night, with the possible exception of Kentucky. I would have liked a Bucky win, but I'll take the moral victory that they were able to hang with the elite on an off night.
  24. The Gufs are still playing? Holy cow! Maybe given the amount of times Hootie played Milwaukee, Darius Rucker would be the country act. I think ZZ Top was a good guess, I think it will be along those lines. A Bob Seger, or someone with fairly universal appeal. I will personally vote for a Little Blue Crunchy Things Reunion show. At least 20 or 30 other people would stay to see that with me
  25. Patrick, I avoid the tables with continuous shuffle whenever possible. It is the ultimate random game. No strategy, no clue. Just basically one random hand dealt from a six deck shoe. It is pure luck, IMO. I don't mind the BJ payouts, as I don't really factor those into strategy. It's a bonus, nothing more to me. Bally's still had shuffling and 3:2 last December, but that may have changed. I'm not sure why people sit at blackjack without a clue either. There is 3 card poker, roulette, and countless other games that are easy to play, why sit somewhere that knowledge is required. As far as exit strategy, especially in Vegas...I believe most have a win big/lose all mentality. Silly.
