  1. Jimmer would be padlocked to the bench in the Skiles system, he plays virtually no defense. He rarely even rotates on that side of the court. He also won't be able to attack the rim at the next level. I love watching him, but, IMO, his best hope is to be JJ Redick, but with somehow worse defense. He will sell in Utah, and maybe in Indiana, but that's about it.
  2. I like Alec Burks, wouldn't mind seeing him. The Morris brothers wouldn't be bad, but I agree, not All-Stars. Should be solid though. Wolves want to trade out of the #2. See if Hammond can be the latest beneficiary of a Kahn robbery, he wants Veterans. We have plenty. Give him his choice of our wasted money, and the 10 for the chance to draft Williams out of Arizona. I really like him. In any other league, I would say that would be impossible, but the NBA GMs consistently amaze me with their awful dealing. Maggette and the 10?
  3. I wouldn't say that necessarily. At this point he is a WEC crossover. I believe Condit made his debut on a Spike card, and he was arguably a bigger name when he crossed over. When it comes down to it, it seems the passing MMA fans are not that interested in the lighter weights, they want to see the big boys bang.
  4. That is a pretty strong headliner for a VS card. Lytle doesn't usually have dull fights, and I'm sure Hardy will stand and trade with him. Actually, while not a ton of huge names, all of those fights should be entertaining. I'm surprised Pettis isn't fighting, thought they would get him a tune-up with the delays with Edgar. Is he hurt? He is probably the biggest Milwaukee fighter, they usually try to bring in the hometown boy.
  5. I've had the luck of talking to two different major leaguers lately, and actually brought up Gomez both times when told that the Brewers didn't have one decent defensive player. Both said, he takes horrible routes, he's just fast and can usually compensate for instincts. I was at the game yesterday, the ball he missed from Pujols was directly in the sun, he was on it, just couldn't see it. And, oddly enough, he was about the only Brewer who looked like he knew what he was doing at the plate. In the 9th, during one of CC's 378 foul balls, Gomez caught McGehee. Prompted my non sports fan wife to ask if he was allowed to pass the other guys. I'm not sure he couldn't have caught up with Prince, scoring from third, while he was at first. It's funny I remember watching Pods, but Gomez has speed like I've never seen once he takes off. It is really impressive to watch in person.
  6. Hoosiers is just the term used down here for trailer trash. I live near STL, and use Verizon. I haven't had any problems in Missouri or the route to Wisconsin with their service. They are pricey, but reliable. I think it runs maybe $180 for two lines with data packages. Could be wrong, we have more lines than that. We use Charter for Cable, I don't really care for them, but don't enjoy Satellite.TV. Rural Missouri is an interesting place, there is a large meth problem, and let's just say there are large sections of the rural state that have not embraced the outcome of the Civil War.
  7. I'm a loyal Southwest customer as well. They are typically the cheapest out of STL, maybe because they have their own terminal. If you buy a month or two in advance, it is hard to beat their price. I always check bags, and don't feel the need to pay extra to bring luggage with me on a trip.
  8. OBP = not making outs. Not making outs is the single most important contribution any player can provide to an offense, regardless of where he hits in the lineup. A guy who's going to put up an OBP below .300 is a detriment to your offense regardless if he hits 2nd or 8th. You can limit how detrimental such a bat is by putting him lower in your order (and limiting his at bats), but saying that the value of OBP is varied depending on lineup location is really statistically false.I disagree with this. My line of thinking is more in line with JohnBriggs. There are times when simply getting on base is less relevant. Like he said, runners in scoring position and two outs, with two voids behind you, you want the guy swinging. I understand the argument for cycling the lineup, I understand the argument for the more runners the better, but I believe the goal is to get runs across the plate. I know BA is becoming a meaningless stat, but when I have the choice between YB and his mediocre BA and Nieves or a Pitcher, I would prefer the guy with the best chance at getting a hit, to swing the bat.
  9. Never a good idea to judge wine solely by price, many good values at low price points! We enjoy sweeter wines, there is a local Missouri wine, Hermanhoff Vignoles, that we enjoy.
  10. Not sure where to put this, if needs to be in alumni thread, sorry! Thought this was a good article about a player I once enjoyed following. Glad to see he is getting a little publicity.
  11. Silva burned his bridges with their coaching staff, pretty sure he would have been at the bottom of their list to sign. Would love to see an early Cub implosion, maybe they can be Completely Useless By June this year?
  12. Provel isn't awful in salads, but is terrible melted. I second that you should avoid Imo's and the like. Melted it has a velveeta like quality. I think you have to be from here (and not know any better), to truly enjoy it. Tailgating may be allowed, but it's not common practice. There is decent pizza here, but you won't find it downtown.
  13. I'm in STL as well, will second previous suggestions. Expect to pay a cover most places on The Landing, the Loop is very cool, but not really a sports bar place, more of a lip piercing place. Cardinals fans aren't too bad, there isn't tailgating down here, so the excessively drunk spent quite a bit to get that way. The casinos are pretty fun after the game, usually a lot of people there. I will be at the Sunday game as well, enjoy!
  14. By far my best experience meeting a player occurred this past week. I met Ben Sheets while at Disney World with my family. He was there with his family, and ran into him in line for A Bugs Life show at Animal Kingdom. Really nice guy, we chatted for 10 minutes. He was pretty funny and candid. I asked him his opinions on some Brewer questions. FWIW he feels they will win the division this year. Talked about kids, his boys are Packer and Badger fans from their time in WI, it irritated him as a Saints/LSU fan, but in a joking way. Very cool guy, and a great experience!
  15. Chrome stole me away from Firefox as well, no looking back!
  16. May be interested in the 4/9 game, need price and location of seats, please! Thanks Rob
  17. Rydogg, The idea behind using all the channels was so that people would be able to see the game they wanted. I kind of like the format where they cut to the close game, but they are trying to show all the games this year, on their family of channels. This way you don't get skunked if your team is not the headliner. Will be interesting to see how it plays out, as I know I don't get 1 of the channels used with my package.
  18. Could be overheating, that will cause system to shut down.
  19. A crowd pleaser for us is what we call "gourmet smores" Spray the outside of a croissant with PAM butter flavor, put on grill with marshmallow fluff, and chocolate, like a sandwich (wrap whole thing in tinfoil) They are ridiculously good.
  20. They lost to them with Davies, as well. Not sure that game is indicative on the team performance going forward. New Mexico seems to have their number.
  21. Is there a number less than zero? Would using the bar as a closet rack qualify for a -1? I wish I could do them, but my long monkey arms do not allow it. No matter what shape I'm in, never could do them.
  22. The Super Bowl tries to avoid "fad" bands, or so it seems. They don't want to appear dated in replay, like an SNL episode with a One Hit Wonder. BEP like them or not, has been established for some time now, and are very popular in the mainstream. Their music is all but made for NBA timeouts, and cheerleader routines. They were a logical choice. I think the Foo Fighters have more than enough hits to play it, I will be surprised if they don't in the next 5 years. You're telling me the NFL can't play up "The Best of Me"? I don't think Metallica is too heavy, but would guess that their setlist would have to be almost all Black album and forward, to appeal to the masses. Was surprised Bon Jovi hasn't played it, they seem like a no-brainer for the formula. Nickelback will almost certainly play one in the next few years. If I could choose? I would love to see Incubus play the show.
  23. Honestly, I would be just fine if they played the Whitney Houston version at every major event. I don't believe that can be topped.
  24. Ender's Game might be around his level. One of the few Science Fiction books I enjoy!
