  1. Pouring down here right now...hoping it clears by 7
  2. Among the low end brands, I just tend to go for "bang for the buck"...I try to find the chip I want, with a decent amount of RAM. For internet browsing and day to day stuff, I really don't care about detailed specs. In that range, I would guess the difference would be negligible. If you're going somewhere like Best Buy, get a decent warranty and you'll be fine. The way it was explained to me at Best Buy is Alienware is the top of the line, Gateway is midtier, and Acer is lower end; but they are all made by the same company. If I'm wrong, I'm sure someone will jump in.
  3. Quite happy that we should have seen the last of Lance Lynn for the series. Can't imagine he'll bounce back from an oblique strain that quickly, that guy is a beast, and has owned the Crew.
  4. I would guess that as the popularity increases, so will the amount of people that RyDogg describes. As it is now, it seems to really only be noticed by those that are into that type of workout. Unfortunately, in 3 years, it'll probably be sponsored by TapOut and whatever new Malt Liquor/Energy drink is on the market. Would like to see it maintain it's purity, it's a very cool concept.
  5. I took his comment as an event for people wanting to show that they are rugged, when they may not be. Not as an insult to the difficulty of the course.
  6. This is not a post defending Counsell, but rather defending veteran presence. As none of us are in the clubhouse, we have no idea of the effect. Maybe Kotsay gives the guys tips he's learned. Maybe Counsell farts at meeting to keep the mood light. The Red Sox put together their Cowboy up Series team by finding personalities that meshed, along with talent. Counsell should get no real playing time, and I agree that he is better suited to a bench coach role at this point, but I'm tiring of the feelings that are rampant on this board that personality counts for nothing. This isn't stat-o-matic baseball. There is a human element that can't be ignored. There is a reason that these guys are signed year after year, they bring something to the table. It may not be measurable to the fan, but most every team has someone like this. You don't have to be an All-Star to be a clubhouse leader. On a much lower level, I played NAIA college basketball at the age of 27, I played 2 minutes a game, and was well past my prime. Our coach couldn't figure out why all the kids listened to me, and rallied behind me. They had a level of respect for me, regardless of talent level, because even if I wasn't great, they saw the level of effort being given. Could be the same thing with CC.
  7. Very much enjoying listening to the STL ESPN radio guys panic about this series. Nice when a team's fan base comes in with a "I hope we can take 1 attitude"
  8. That is what I read as well. The experience is yours, how much you choose to complete is up to you. There is no penalty for choosing to avoid an obstacle.
  9. Wily Mo is a AAAA player. Doesn't mean he couldn't help out off the bench. He shouldn't really be counted on for anything but that. He's a butcher in the field, and can't hit well enough at the MLB level to warrant the bad defense. The guy just swings from the heels, when he connects, it's awesome. We have no pop off the bench, I'd be for it, if the cost is beyond cheap. Like cash considerations, or a garbage prospect. Would not give up anything of value for him.
  10. I love watching Marcum pitch, Braun at bat, and I actually enjoy watching Lucroy catch a game. He may not throw well, but I think he handles the pitchers pretty well. I think with Braun and Weeks, you can almost tell when they are going to do something big with the bat. They seem to have a different stance, or confidence, or something. No way to justify it or back it up, but I have watched on numerous occasions where they just looked a little "different" in certain at bats. Maybe it's confidence against certain pitchers.
  11. Yes, that was a vote for Axford.
  12. I dislike watching Axford, in much the same way I disliked watching Turnbow. I enjoy watching Prince hit, I detest watching him play 1st Base.
  13. I share the feelings of the Crew07, however, I've seen the studies and it is technically faster to utilize both lanes until the last moment. The delays occur when people can't play nice and take turns. Still drives me up the wall when I see it though!
  14. It's so nice to turn on ESPN radio at lunch down here in STL to listen to them discuss the Brewers. Bernie Miklasz, the main Cards talking head here, has a crush on them, so it's especially nice. He thinks they're the best team in the division, if they could only figure out how to win on the road. He's been preaching Brewers all year, but also considers them underachievers, which is pretty fair to me.
  15. Olney and Kurkijan said on the radio this morning that the Mets would be asking for a premier A list prospect for Beltran, as he is the best bat available. They also said they were holding firm to that. Not sure if we even have anyone that qualifies.
  16. I once met a guy who told me he was in the restaurant business, it turns out he was a dishwasher at Houlihans. Choosing the correct title can make your job seem much more important than it is.
  17. Not sure if this is trendy, or new, or what...but I was introduced to a lemonade and Iced Tea flavored Jeremiah Weed this weekend. I'd never heard of it, although I am so far out of the loop, I don't recall what the loop looks like. Delicious, refreshing, perfect for sitting in a river on a 100 degree Missouri day.
  18. I worked for awhile as a hotel bartender down here in STL. Any time I saw the Badger bus pull up, I knew that for the next hour the only thing I would say is "Sorry, we don't keep brandy in stock" and "Yes, seriously, I can't make a brandy old fashioned". It is very much a Wisconsin thing. As for me, I don't drink often, and it is even more rare that I'll drink mixed drinks. Recently, we went to a vodka bar down here called Sub Zero (with the bar made of ice, one of those places). They had quite a few different infused vodkas, I just had them mix with diet 7up. I enjoyed the watermelon. Nice fresh watermelon taste. Plus it was clear, so there was no telling the 6'8" giant was drinking a fru fru drink. Otherwise, I enjoy knob creek neat, occasionally with ginger ale.
  19. Listening to the radio this morning, apparently Riggleman was having problems with Werth and Marquis. They didn't want to listen to him because he was lame duck, so Riggleman wanted an extension to get control of his clubhouse. Olney said this morning that this was especially surprising, as he is the ultimate company man, and always toes the line. I guess he figured he wasn't going to get control of his clubhouse without an extension, and walked. I would guess that Werth and Marquis would be two of your team leaders there, if they aren't going to show respect, neither are the youngsters. Interesting decision to walk, I can respect it at some level. I would agree that it is career suicide.
  20. I'd take that Houston trade with Patterson, not interested in Hill. Would hate to give up Ersan, I enjoy watching him. Like was said above, similar talent available between 10-35. Would rather have 2 role players out of this draft than 1.
  21. The reach means more than height argument is where we disagree. Measurements aren't everything, if they were, Marcus Haislip would have been decent. From personal experience, as a 6'8" PF/C, there is a distinct difference between posting up a bigger player vs. a smaller one with long arms. He will be an athletic 4, and should have some success, but I don't think he is the sure thing that you do. I don't believe in his dramatic increase in shooting ability, and would like to see it repeated. If his shooting regresses, he is an undersized PF who can't stretch the floor. If his shooting maintains/continues to improve he could carve a niche. Comparing him to Blake Griffin isn't fair IMO, what makes Griffin special is the vicious way he attacks the game, it is incredibly rare.
  22. Really? Absolutely no doubt? He is a tweener, I think there was a trend towards going smaller, but I won't be surprised if that trend reverses. Memphis showed what can be done with size in the frontcourt in a smaller NBA. I expect there will be a push to follow that trend. Williams is a nice player, and probably the most talented in the draft. If he couldn't even play a few minutes of SF in the NBA, then he's in big trouble.
  23. I think Irving is far from a sure thing, and not someone I would be comfortable drafting #1, or building a franchise around. I think he's talented, he could probably contribute on a good team, but I don't think he helps Cleveland much. He is #1 by default, to me, it speaks more to the relative talent of others than his dominance. I like a few players in the draft, but IMO, it is a draft of guys who will be energy players and backups. I think Kanter is really the X Factor, he is the only one I see who may be more than he appears. He could flop too. I just don't see Irving as a franchise PG.
  24. If they could get one of the big Euros, I would be happy. If they traded the pick in order to off load one of the bad contracts of last year, I would be happier. This draft is awful, from #1 down. Hard to get excited about it, I think Kanter could turn out ok...other than that, not great, or even good.
  25. I think Delmonico would be a nice addition, would like to see us draft him. Should be around the time he should go, no?
