  1. Not sure on his coaching ability, but ESPN lost a fantastic analyst.
  2. Did not know him, he may very well have been from the area.
  3. Not really Brewers related, but one of the kids I coached in little league in 2001 was drafted. Chris Aure was taken by the Pirates in the 15th Round, out of North Pole High School in Alaska. I coached him while I was stationed there with the Air Force. The kid could throw harder than me at 10 years old! Glad to see that he made it!
  4. I have a pair that I wear for yard work. They are comfortable, but I will agree they look ridiculous when worn in public. However, I think most modern footwear trends look pretty ridiculous, and that Crocs are probably one of the lesser offenders. I played college basketball 3 years ago, and actually had trouble finding a pair of shoes that did not have patent leather on them. I see people wearing timberlands and hiking boots with shorts, which is great if you are hiking, but if you are not, looks ridiculous. I think adults who have colored laces in their shoes look silly. The most offensive shoe trend to me is the "heely" brand. Nothing like putting aimless, clueless 9 year olds on wheels to make them more prone to run into people and things in crowded stores.
  5. What a shame. Tremendous loss, it will be felt even more due to the election year. Not going to be the same without him.
  6. IMO the worst ad campaign in history was that talking dead hamster that Quiznos used a few years back. That actually kept me from eating there. I like the Taco Bell commercials, but the word beefy is a big turnoff for me, and they use it constantly. Just not an appetizing word. I like the High Life commercials, but wonder what million dollar hotels actually stock High Life in their mini bar, that is the part that cracks me up. I thought the Old Spice ad where the deoderant causes hair growth was clever. I'm in STL, so my least favorite ads are the locals featuring Joe Buck, not a fan.
  7. I'd be surprised if we had too much trouble signing Linz, sounds like he is just being honest, and doesn't want to give MIL the idea that he can't wait to sign, will probably snag a few extra bucks that way.
  8. Here was the draft reaction from Odorizzi, not sure if this has been posted yet. Seems pretty positive! link
  9. Congrats! My little one just turned one, enjoy the experience, it goes fast!
  10. Two players selected from my neck of the woods! Was thrilled that we drafted Odorizzi, it will be nice to follow someone from High School to the majors. My next door neighbor is one of the Sports editors at the Highland paper, and she has been following him forever. Don't know much about the kid from SIU, but I remember reading in the paper that they had some with MLB talent. Will be happy to post whatever local stuff comes up in the next few days about Odorizzi.
  11. If they don't, you may want to try here. I have used them with success link
  12. Odorizzi plays ball locally in my area. Really seems like a good kid, and was on the cover of the Sports page today. Would be cool to me if the Brewers got him at the end of the first round. Although I should mention that he finally gave up a run yesterday, maybe that will drop him to the second round.
  13. I would disagree that Berman is the "drunk uncle" of ESPN. The reaction to him on this board does not surprise me at all, this is not his demographic. People here often freak out if W-L record or ERA is used in an argument, we are not representative of baseball fans at large. Berman is a batting average and basics anouncer. He is a big name, who keeps things light, and tries to keep the game moving. ESPN knows that die-hards will watch the game if it is a team they follow, they are trying to snare the channel flippers. They are looking to grab people who want "sports entertainment", which is a much larger demographic. On the SAS, Stuart Scott debate; I don't really care for either. I know that Stu is there to provide some "urban" attitude, but it seems forced to me. SAS is just a different incarnation of Dick Vitale to me, better to be loud than knowledgable.
  14. I think that Archuleta deserves to win based on last night, but Cook will have a longer stronger career IMO. The problem for me with Cook is that I have no desire to hear him sing original music, I just like the way he covers songs. I don't really care either way. I enjoy AI once it gets to the competition, I don't really enjoy the William Hung characters. The popular show that escapes me is Dancing With the Stars. No interest whatsoever.
  15. So long as we don't pick Gordon, I don't care...think he will bust. Send the pick to Memphis for Conley Jr, or a package including one of their PGs. I think the pick depends on what they decide to do with Redd, they should still be able to get a nice piece for him.
  16. Really don't care for Jimmy Fallon. I think he will have a short lived tenure on the show. Can't imagine him being a good interviewer.
  17. Had it in the Twin Cities in '96-97 while attending the U. Spent many hours staring and hoping for videos that weren't terrible. Blink 182 was on a lot back then, if I recall correctly.
  18. We showed up right before noon, there was no line to get our "card", and we were among the last in line for Rickie. The whole line took maybe 15 minutes, and I will second the comment that this was the most organized event of this nature that I have attended. Rickie was very pleasant, and even personalized the ball to my son when I asked him to (the letter or someone said we wouldn't be able to, but I figured it didn't hurt to ask). When I thanked him and walked away, he called after a "thanks for coming out". He may have not wanted to be there, but he didn't act like it. Great experience, and about the complete opposite of when I met him at ST '04. The lines moved super fast, and I wished I could have visited the other players, as they all seemed to be done early.
  19. They had a doctor evaluating these on the Today show last week (so take the source with a grain of salt), but their findings were minimal. I think the best one, compared to similar person on similar diet/exercise plan, resulted in an extra 3 pounds lost in a year. I think the pill was Alli, and that the cost was something like $75 a month. Echo everyone who says diet/exercise are the way to go. Maybe spend the money on a nutritionist.
  20. We replaced ours last summer, and the bid process was pretty brutal. The only tips that I have are to: 1.Avoid the Home Depot type stores for contractors, huge markup involved. 2. Make sure when you go with a smaller team, that they have the proper insurance for their workers. 3. Make sure they have cleanup and takeaway in the bid, surprising how many don't. 4. The price is going to be similar for most, go with the guy that seemed most upfront. 5. Not sure if this one matters to you, but the guys we went with had a professionalism policy. They ensured us no swearing or obnoxious music while they worked. Wish the neighbor would have gone with this option, their roofers seemed like they were on a prison release project. Good luck, the roof shouldn't set you back that much with a smaller house, we had to do roofing and siding at the same time, I'll never be able to move.
  21. B-fast is by far my favorite meal to eat at a restaurant. A mushroom omelette, bacon and hashbrowns from G-Webb, and I am a happy camper. Now if they would only open one in Southern Illinois. Also a huge pancake fan, blueberry as well, so long as the berries are inside the cakes. Not a fan of the compote topping.
  22. It was intended to be harsh, to get my point across. Sometimes hurtful does as much good as helpful, I don't think he did the right thing, he asked for opinions and I gave one. He doesn't know me from Adam, so my opinion really shouldn't matter much. It is just a flipside to the "man of the year" post. You said that you have been dating a single mom for 2 years, if you tell her tomorrow that you really don't want to be a father to her kids, what do you think she says? You think she forgets something like that? This is a situation where he should have asked for advice before he did something, not after. If he expects every relationship to have no problems, he will be anyways. Having to deal with an occasional troublesome child, outweighs all the positive things? I find that ridiculous, that is running from a problem. This is the love of his life we are talking about, he had the choice of embracing a large part of her life, and helping him grow, or walking away...I don't agree with the choice. I don't proclaim to know him, or how he thinks, but once again opinions were asked for, and I gave my perspective. In the future, I will make sure to water them down so as not to offend. My apologies if I hurt your feelings, DHonks.
  23. I wrote and rewrote my reply about a dozen times before settling on this. You screwed up, I'm not going to bother to go in depth on the why, this will be something you learn on your own through future relationships. The decision, and how you handled it, shows your immaturity and inexperience in this type of situation. This sounds harsh, but I'm not going to justify your decision as some noble way of not wasting any more of her time. She and her child will suffer from your decision, and regardless of if you change your mind, the damage has been done with the woman. She may hope that you change your mind, but in the back of her head, she will always remember your initial reaction. You love the kid (by all accounts), but don't want to put up with him when he has a bad day, this is ridiculous and pathetic. You knew she had a kid before you started, or at least towards the beginning of the relationship; and it seems it is the idea of a step-child that bothers you, so why did you get involved in the first place? You had already waited 25 years, why start with someone you know you will be ultimately incompatible with? If the answer is that you were in love with her, then the kid is part of her as well, and you screwed up. This doesn't make you a stand-up guy, a stand up guy would have told her your concerns, and found a way to work them out like an adult.
  24. My wife and kids were out of town as well, but I didn't get a chance to cook much. My daughter comes home tonite, so I am going to make some grilled chicken, rice and corn on the cob. Then we will walk over to the ice cream place for dollar cones.
  25. This was discussed at length a few holiday seasons ago (I want to say that it was many pages long), I think the general consensus was that it was enjoyable. I have heard of this food, but have never seen it served.
