  1. I think you're reading too much into this. They may have just picked a date without consulting him, that conflicted with something. The choice of phrasing could have been better, but it seems like these promotions change all the time. At least they are replacing the signer with someone who is of equal value, monetary wise. It would have hurt if they replaced him with Suppan or Gwynn or someone like that.
  2. I don't think anyone is really lobbying for more playing time for him, he has been a great stop-gap for Cameron. I just hope fans remember this hot streak when Yost inevitably plays him too much after it comes to an end.
  3. Had nachos for lunch...chips, pulled pork bbq, cheese, black olives...delicious
  4. I think a Kevin Love/Andrew Bogut frontcourt would make it very difficult for another team to rebound against us.
  5. Glad to hear it worked out, it is fairly pungent, but enjoyable!
  6. The Blues might not be in it, but at least we get a chance to watch uberprospect TJ Oshie in the Frozen Four. He will fit in nicely with the notes. I don't think the Habs will do it, Price is just too young. I think he will feel the pressure at some point. I'm not pulling for a team at this point, just following players I enjoy. Hoping that Gaborik and Ovechkin have good runs.
  7. Saw Turnbow and family at the Original Pancake House last year, fairly early in the season. Drove some kind of nice SUV, don't recall the model, but it was that pearl/gray color.
  8. Topps did a play on this in their 2008 set. They put in a card of the "Uzi", a 16 year old Japanese pitcher that would be the next MLB superstar. Don't recall the full name, but it translated from Japanese as the "son of the first day of April". Many people bought up these cards hoping that they would be able to turn a huge profit when he came over, only to find out it was an April fools joke. Apparently these geniuses thought that Topps had found someone that BA and the rest of the world has missed.
  9. I think it will be fine overnight Miller, may want to add Sesame oil day of...it has a very strong flavor.
  10. Time for a Miller- I had forgotten all about this thread. Anyways, the marinade is 2 parts white wine (any cooking wine will do, don't splurge here), 1 part soy sauce, and then a teaspoon of Sesame oil. Sesame oil is expensive, but a little extra goes a long way. Marinate for at least an hour, the longer the better. Good luck, you may want to do a trial run, and get the proportions right for you. If you like saltier food, go heavier on the soy...and there is never a thing as too much sesame oil!
  11. Got my Braun shirt in the mail today, looks great. A question for you. Have you ever thought of a "Fielder Dreams" shirt, with a "If they throw it, he will bomb" type thing? Maybe it's a dumb idea, but I thought it may look cool.
  12. Ben's Rookies aren't worth a ton at the moment, and his basic Chrome probably will never amount to much. In today's card world, the autographed Rookies are the prizes, and the regular RC are overlooked, or only valuable in bulk. There are exceptions, like when a player is overlooked when drafted, and then has a breakthrough. Clay Buchholz was one of these guys, Pujols was as well, but he had some autos on the market. The Sheets Chrome RC is probably worth $1-2.
  13. This was a huge "redemption" story for him a year ago. He was out of baseball, and he was near death with diabetes. I recall them saying that he wasn't supposed to live, or something of that nature. He got himself back in shape for the season, and it was one of those "baseball saved my life" stories. I don't think it got a ton of play because he was in DC, but I recall Sportscenter hanging onto it for a few days. This isn't a sudden declaration, its an old story, here is a link to one of the recaps story
  14. For chicken, a good quick marinade is white wine, soy sauce and sesame oil...has a very good asian flavor. I only use Lowry's on my burgers, and salt and pepper on my steaks. I am in the camp that prefers the better cuts of meat, although there is a time and a place for the tougher cuts. For brats, I boil first, then grill...I hadn't actually heard of the other way, may give it a shot. We need to get a new grill this summer, and we are pretty sure we are abandoning the convenience of propane for the flavor of charcoal. This will mean less short notice grilling, but we prefer the results the old fashioned way!
  15. Can't wait to see the pictures! We have been planning a garden for some time now, but don't have the ideal conditions, our best bet would probably be raised beds. We had planned on using the middle of our back yard, as it previously held a swing set and had no grass, but the grass seed we planted improbably took, and killed that idea. My wife does pumpkins, cantaloupe, green peppers, tomatoes (I believe cherry), and usually an odd ball or two annually. My contribution is typically a small spice garden of oregano, rosemary, thyme and basil. Would love to hear how the garlic works out. This just seems to be one of the projects that is always left out, stupid pesky roof and siding replacement that stole all of the fun money!
  16. I recently had the same problem, was resolved by switching channels on the gateway.
  17. Dogs are furry pets that people have special bonds with, most do not own pet roosters. I don't think the two are an exact apples-apples comparison. My only question is if one of the roosters was Little Jerry Seinfeld?
  18. Amare is a 4, and at this point in his career, is pure offense. He has no interest in playing D for the most part. Marion still won't get any attention with D-Wade on the team, but will be allowed to shoot as much as he likes. This isn't the worst thing that could happen to the Suns. They don't need Shaq right now, and won't need him to be "the man". They are one of the few teams that could allow him to get healthy without pressure, and use him as needed in the playoffs. Fat, slow, old whatever you want to call him...he still can dominate a game for brief stretches, and is a much needed defensive presence. If anything, Shaq adds a level of toughness to a rather soft team. Marcus Banks was salary fodder in this trade, and will only be a factor because Miami is so bad. I don't think Shaq necessarily "quit" on the heat, ala Vince Carter. I think this is the result of the effects of a long career on a body his size.
  19. I was really excited to go, and very let down by the experience. Echo the poster who said it was boring. Not the excitement or rush I was expecting at all.
  20. I usually check the alumni thread when I wonder about the prospects. I know that the neighbor kid was taking pitching lessons from Mike Crudale. I believe he still takes shots at the independent leagues in the summer.
  21. I get really cheap hotel rooms. This perk does not make up for the suckitude of my current job, thank goodness my last day is Friday!
  22. Part of the reason that Nadal's serve is so weak is that he is not naturally left handed. They discussed this at length during the French, I believe. Makes his ability that much more remarkable. That being said, Tsonga destroyed him the other night, and Nadal actually played pretty well. One of the most dominant performances I have ever seen. Should be a good final, unless Tsonga has run out of steam. The men's game has actually been pretty exciting of late. I have thought for awhile that Djokovic seemed more likely than Nadal to challenge Federer, should make for a fun year. To dismiss the men's game is popular, but silly. As far as the women go, should be a great final for tennis fans and casual observers alike.
  23. I've been meaning to post this for some time, but have just never gotten around to it. This years Thanksgiving has brought a whole new meaning for me. May 15th of this year, my son Jackson was born. He was diagnosed with severe cardiomyopathy, and was immediately transferred to the Cardiac ICU at Children's Hospital in St. Louis. It became evident quickly that his heart was not viable, and we were placed on the transplant list within a week of his birth. We waited 5 long weeks for a heart, and survived many close encounters with tragedy, but on Father's Day we were blessed with a new heart. The new heart has worked flawlessly since transplant, and we have had zero rejection so far (knock on wood). We have had our fair share of bumps in the road, but overall, Jack has been doing fantastic. I have still not come to grips entirely with what has happened in these past six months, but know that my life would be empty without him in it. I am thankful for the loving decision of the donor family to give him the gift of life, and I am thankful for every moment I am with my son. I am also thankful to the incredilble staff at SLCH, and to our family and friends who support us. His picture is in my avatar, I will try to track down the one of him in his first Brewers hat. Thanks for reading, I thought with all the crap that goes on in the world, it may be nice to share a happy story. -Rob
  24. I am 6'8" 260 and drive a 2006 Honda Accord...I have driven roomier vehicles, but like you, I wanted gas mileage. I fit with a little room to spare, so you wouldn't have a problem. Love it to death, and haven't had any problems with it.
