  1. Finally a decent topic!! I haven't lived in WI for awhile, so I have not been privvy to Orvs, but for my buck, Jack's original is the best cheap frozen treat. My other favorite, which I haven't had in over a decade, is the Merkts frozen pizza. My little sister used to sell this stuff for school, too good.
  2. You seem to have a running background, so I am sure you know this, but I will offer my small advice anyways. The price of the shoe isn't important, the fit is what will help with knee pain. I had a similar problem a few years ago, went in for a proper fitting at a store for running shoes, and found out that I was wearing the wrong style of shoe for my foot type. Once I had the proper support, my knee pain vanished. Hope this works for you as well.
  3. There is a butcher shop a little west of STL that does flavored brats...but in flavors that people may actually enjoy. They make a mushroom and swiss brat that sounds intriguing, among other savory flavors. Not sure I want any sweet brats.
  4. Saw both an indoor and outdoor Phish show, enjoyed them live, but don't really enjoy listening to their CDs/boots. I wound up really getting into Widespread Panic, and still listen to their CDs on occasion.
  5. STL rush hour really isn't that bad, especially if you are headed east towards IL. Somehow the myth that STL is a major metropolis continues, there really isn't much to the city. You are about 3-5 miles from IL at the Drury. If you really want to avoid traffic, stay at a hotel on the IL side of things. The hotels in Fairview Heights and O'Fallon (where I live) are no more than 25 minutes from the stadium. If you go this route, I suggest that you take the metrolink into the stadium...the train is cheap and drops you off at the front door. If you have other questions, feel free to ezbox me. I am happy to help. -Rob
  6. Those parts of STL are fairly close. The arch/Laclede's Landing area is about a 5-10 minute drive to Forest Park (home of the zoo, and a ton of other stuff). Any of the hotels around the landing are pretty nice, not sure what you are looking for, but the Drury Inn is a nice hotel that is right downtown.
  7. I've enjoyed Into the Wild, and Into Thin Air...Banner of Heaven is definitely on my list. I'm interested to see the movie on Alexander Supertramp.
  8. I took the opposite approach to Islands...I checked out 100 years a few days ago, and am about 100 pages into it. I am enjoying it so far, and am finally getting into the flow of his writing style. Pretty sure that this book won't last much past the weekend. Will be bookmarking this thread to further my summer reading as well. I think my wife has Life of Pi somewhere around the house, that one may be next.
  9. The newest spa Wauna-Sauna??
  10. I love this thread, and will be making a trip to the library tomorrow to pick out a few of the titles! I read Tuesdays with Morrie by Mitch Albom at least once a year. It is an incredible book that I feel everyone should read at least once. As for the person who recommended Grisham, while I enjoy his legal thrillers, they seem to have become rather cookie cutter. I have, however, thoroughly enjoyed his other books (A Painted House, Bleachers, Skipping Christmas).
  11. An offshoot of the "official threads" rant. It bothers me when people start threads with "I know this should be in the IGT, or Vent, or blah blah blah" If you know this, then why not put it there? These threads get locked or redirected in the first few minutes, why not just post where you are supposed to? Just because you have a slightly different slant than an existing topic does not neccesarily require a separate post. Now please excuse me while I go start a new post entitled "What's bothering me is more important than what is bothering you" Sorry if this has been covered previously, just noticing a lot of it lately. -Rob
  12. I think it says something about my cinematic taste that I don't consider the majority of movies on this list "bad". Seeing as the movies I love seem to qualify on this list, I will nominate my two favorites. Gleaming the Cube and Best of the Best. I could watch either of them at any time, and enjoy every second of it.
  13. Wow, is it nice to follow a Brewers game these days. This is a fun team.
  14. Think of the headlines this trade would have brought about 2 years ago. As was mentioned, at least Thomas has some success at the big league level. He was one of the key pieces to the Hudson deal I believe.
  15. I would have thought the same as well, but we saw him at the Pancake Pantry last year, and I think he was driving a Range Rover, or some high end SUV. I, for some reason, picture Matt Wise driving a beater, not sure why.
  16. FTJ- If you don't care if they are Brewers players, I would use some of the "lesser" names. Guys like Dan Haren, Joe Nathan, Hanley Ramirez and Josh Willingham can usually be had for under $20 DLVD. Good luck, I'll probably finish at some point.
  17. I use the Snap-tite holders for mine, although they may be the same as the ones you guys are discussing. They also sell screwdowns for the thick ones like these and sweet spot. The stands can be bought from one of the supply companies. They sell clear or black ones, and they are pretty cheap. Love the Sheets spelled out, that is great. I started to spell my own last name, but lost interest quickly with the prices. I have an I from Hanley Ramirez and an N from Josh Willingham. At some point I may finish, I only need four more. Saw some familiar cards in BD25's picture post. Here are a couple from my collection. The majority of my collection (excepting the stuff too lazy to scan) can be found here http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e218/rwa12/Personal%20Collection/Brewers%20Autos/fielder.jpg http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e218/rwa12/Personal%20Collection/Brewers%20Autos/molitor.jpg http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e218/rwa12/Personal%20Collection/Brewers%20Autos/sheets1.jpg http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e218/rwa12/Personal%20Collection/HOF%20Autos/Yount2.jpg
  18. Any chance Toronto will lend us Overbay for this series? I miss the way he mashes in Cincy.
  19. I just drove by the stadium about 15 minutes ago, and no rain. I guess we were just ahead of it, hope it clears up soon
  20. Question for the braniacs of the SA forum... I'm trying to work out a stat for leadoff hitters, as I am not a fan of OPS for non-power spots in the lineup. There may already be such a stat, and if there is, I would love to know how it is calculated. I have a rudimentary idea for this that I called OBSB for lack of a name. (OBP+SB%) I know that this calculation has obvious flaws (# of steal attempts being a prime one), but I thought the results turned out interesting for a number of guys I tried, any help guidance would be appreciated. I am pretty new to the stat game, as OPS is still a newfangled idea to me, but am looking to expand my appreciation of the game. The reason that I chose those two stats, is because those are two skills that I think are crucial to a leadoff man. Please add/subtract/modify at will! Thanks Rob Results Player OBSB Tim Raines 1.229 Rickey Henderson 1.201 Johnny Damon 1.133 Vince Coleman 1.124 Scott Podsednik 1.102 Juan Pierre 1.080 Brady Clark .958
  21. I'm not so sure about that, I remember my friend's mom shopping at Pick N' Save just so that she would get carded. As a former bouncer/doorman I always abide by the card everyone philosophy. Saves the $500+ fine for selling to someone who was "obviously" of age.
  22. Here was a new one on me today...was going to Target for some last minute things, and of course it is packed. Saw a parking spot opening a few yards ahead in the aisle I was in. I'm not one who tries for the perfect spot, but parking was limited, and it was about halfway down the row. As I am waiting a car a few spots back from the one I am waiting on pulls out, then pulls into the spot I was waiting for. I had already rolled forward, so I couldn't take the spot that she was in. Had to drive around for 5 more minutes for another spot. All of this nonsense, to save this obese woman about 10 extra feet of walking...and we wonder why this is the fattest nation on earth. These are the little things that bother me. Also can't stand it when people don't return the carts to the "cart corral", seriously people, they are usually no more than 10 yards away from your spot...the exercise won't kill you!
  23. Definitely a tour de force last night...as mentioned above, the arm marking and Kevin's rendition were great...I also loved Michael talking to Pam about the things Carol tried in bed "maybe a little wine first would have helped"
  24. He is from Racine, and he is within a year of my age (2http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/glasses.gif I believe...
  25. Kolb threw 5 pitches in his first inning, I don't think he was tired, he just made a mistake pitch...stuff happens
