  1. C'mon Greg, don't let a guy who thinks our GM is Bob Melvin get under your skin. Next he is going to start insulting the decisions made by Edd Yost, the Manager
  2. never a bad day when you knock peavey out in less than 4 innings!! Edit-Can't count
  3. I'm assuming you're being sarcastic Tau, or at least I hope so
  4. How many more starts does Ohka have? 3 or 4? Might as well use him. If this was July it might be a different story
  5. Couldn't this thread title have been "Russ and Brett got their forum, why can't I have mine?"
  6. Chris summed up my feeling exactly in his "converting the non-believers" post.
  7. Would tend to agree with Scoop...neither side of the house should be discounted. I enjoy watching a baseball game for what it is, I feel that I have watched enough baseball in my lifetime to form educated opinions. I do not care if my opinions clash with statistical analysis, it does not matter to me in the slightest. That is why I do not read or post in the Statistical Analysis forum. I will never discount the utility of stats, they are obviously a very important facet of the game. They do not add much to my enjoyment of the game however, and I think you can have an interesting discussion without having to prove someone EXACTLY right, or EXACTLY wrong.
  8. Pogo, that is what I thought too, but when I checked the site, I didn't see anything stating that, this is what I found in regards to players trying to gain entry via the Veterans Committee "(A) Major League players who competed in any portion of at least ten (10) championship seasons and who have been retired as players for at least twenty-one (21) years. In addition, players whose service in the Negro Baseball Leagues prior to 1946 and the Major Leagues thereafter total at least ten years or portions thereof are defined as eligible candidates. 9. endaround-Tavarez is also a 24 year old rookie, I think he will improve, he has about 6 years on pods
  10. Tavarez is a younger, better podsednik...he's not eckstein
  11. agree that Sutter will be admitted along with probably gossage in an off year...these guys make the relievers of today look like a bunch of little girly men
  12. you guys actually think Lyle scores on the WP? You give him more credit for speed than I do...it didn't stay lost for that long. My fault with the whole scenario was that he didn't score on the double, for as "send happy" as Donnelly is, I was surprised
  13. the wild pitch happened after the ground out...your argument makes no sense to me
  14. Donnelly stopped Hall on the first one, the second GB was a judgement call, the third one was horrible though, just not paying attention
  15. Chris-Of course there has been no response, the thread contained common sense, and was entirely true IMO...but it also puts an end to an argument, and some people will never let an argument die, especially when it has run its course like this one has..
  16. So you advocate team meetings to make sure everyone "gives a crap about anyone else"? Sing kumbaya, group hugs and flowers? Brettac already made the statement about Schilling being a jerk, and no one really caring. Do players have to like each other to succeed? This one I would love to see proven
  17. I will go on a limb, and say for the most part, athletes take pride in their work and do not try to embarass themselves. Does the display of disappointment have to be public? Do they have to show others that they are upset to meet this qualification? I am sure Magruder tries very hard to meet the team's goals, but at some point natural ability speaks louder than trying hard
  18. Now I have 2 similar, but different definitions...but beware nsimps..2 posters have already stated that emotion and heart are unrelated
  19. I love this argument, seeing as "heart" has fifty different definitions, and isn't quantifiable, no one can argue against it. If you don't like an argument against "heart", you simply have to look at a different aspect of it. "Heart" could be working harder to get better, I would define that as professionalism, and self-interest personally. Give me one solid definition of "heart", and I will prepare an argument for or against it. Otherwise, it is pointless... I think heart and luck belong in the same cliche boat with battling and grit
  20. What about when a guy shows too much heart...like when Bill Hall tries so hard to do well that he flails blindly at pitches, and throws temper tantrums in the dugout, who does this help?
  21. What do you think of a player like Jon Olerud, who is pretty much a robot, but has managed a nice career? Is he bad because he has no heart?
  22. Now we just have to define the five words he used in his acronym...so instead of arguing over 1 definition, we haggle over 5...this is becoming more complex by the day. Attitude and hustle are two things that I think are extremely hard to quantify.
  23. Does anyone else think that Wahpepah is starting to wear down? It seems like he was going strong for awhile, but once he crossed the 100 IP mark, has seemed to struggle? Does anyone have perspective on this?
  24. Cardinals fans are a different breed...being surrounded by them (I live about 20 min from downtown STL) is an experience. Last year made most of the fans here arrogant, despite the collapse in the series. I think they feel about the Cards much the same as many 'Sconsinites do about the Packers, they expect them to dominate. I haven't found too many fans who know thing 1 about their farm system...I guess you don't have to really care about stuff like that when half your team are all-stars..the only other thing I can say about them is that they are getting a new stadium for NO good reason. There is nothing wrong with Busch, and the new stadium pretty much looks the same, just bigger, what a waste of money
