Does anyone have a link where I can see who has and hasnt signed for all of mlb or at least the first round?

The Cardinals were already done but this might finally make them realize it. Yeah they had overachieved with who was out there, but somehow there was this thought that they would overachieve at the same rate when they got healthy. They were a .500 team at fully health and I really didnt see them making up ground. As for pitchers, Buehrle was supposedly a life long Cardinal fan, who was going to sign there, but now he is off. Zambrano is supposedly friends with Molina, I guess we will see, but there isnt a whole lot out there.

So my linking of linking of a Cincinnati radio show host blog, led to a comment from Mr. Doug Melvin himself. I kind of feel like I accomplished something today, even if I am a "nerd who gets off on Adam Dunn rumors."

Not only that but we would win 7 games by forfeit because Cincinnati would have no place to play because GABP would be burned to the ground.

Gross seems to be the team's best all-around defender in the outfield, leading Brew Crew outfielders in plays above average despite limited playing time. That kind of goes against the TGJ is a defensive upgrade theory, doesnt it?

Dillon is 1 injury away from playing a significant role on this team. Also, the players Melvin let walk in the past were not on the 40 man roster. We had that injury. He isnt here. Instead we are batting Tony Gwynn and letting Jenkins bat vs. lefties. If the organization had any plans for Dillon, he would be here now in my opinion. I doubt we are carrying 35 guys on the September roster and when the time comes who gets the call as an extra righty bat: Rottino or Dillon? I wish the organization would give him a shot, but I just dont see it happening right now.

The Brewers probably wouldnt stand in his way if the Twins offered him a chance in the big leagues. They never have for minor league vets before. I think Mench is kinda necessary to the Brewers as we lack another right handed hitting outfielder. But I cant imagine the Brewers have any plans if he not up here over Gwynn as he continues his run at regressing to a sub .400 OPS and we play Jenkins and his .227 OBP vs. left handers.

I think Cards fans are fairly high on Joe Mathier but he will probably have to find another positions.

I think more of the story here is Sammy Sosa had around 50 cork bats. That kinda put a damper in his claim that it was a BP bat on accident, because I am doubting that anyone has 50 batting practice bats.

I am a huge fan of Dave Bush, but I highly doubt this would happen. Salty is 22, and hitting over with a .800+OPS. I know they keep troting Kyle Davies out to the mound, but I think the Braves could do alittle better than Dave Bush. Aaron Harang comes to mind as a possibility though I believe the Reds have said they arnt moving him.

Your posts (and blog) are usually some I enjoy reading but in the last 2 days you have compared Gwynn to Dave Roberts, but Im highly doubting PECOTA, Zips, or Chone (if anyone has the blog post that laid out all the Brewers numbers I would appreciate the link), expected Gwynn to OPS anwhere near .341OBP/.368SLUG with a 4+ to 1 stolen base ratio. Now you are saying that Claudio Vargas with a 1.5 WHIP and abnormal (for his career) BA with RISP and K/9 has value at 5 million dollars per year? Sorry but Im just going to have to disagree with you on both. Vargas is falling fast. Look at his last 6-7 starts, Im sure his ERA is well over 5. You dont think Villanueva would outperform that from here on out? I think Balfour pitching bullpen innings and Villanueva rotation innings would be an upgrade for the Brewers over Vargas and that doesnt even include the upgrade of the potential return for the Brewers from here on out.

Im really getting sick of hearing how the Nationals are struggling because of no Christen Guzmna. No Bill, he is not a key component to the offense in any way, shape, or form.

According to various baseball sources, it was Bud Selig who kiboshed that trade of Jacque Jones from the Cubs to the Marlins last week - and not a matter of the Cubs simply having second thoughts. Seems Selig deemed the money the Cubs were to absorb on Jones' contract as excessive. Apparently, the pending sale of the Cubs has prompted a "no more debt" edict from Selig, which may explain why there have been no further contract talks with free agent-to-be Carlos Zambrano. The fact that John Canning Jr., the billionaire CEO of Madison Dearborn Properties and a close friend of Selig's (with an 11% stake in the Brewers) has emerged as the potential frontrunner in the Cubs' ownership sweepstakes may also explain why the commissioner doesn't want any more onerous contracts at Wrigley in the aftermath of the Tribune Co.'s wild spending spree last winter. Ben Sheets-B The strikeouts have started to come around, but his numbers are still below 2004 Chris Capuano-CD-A healthy Capuano would be very welcome. Very inconsistent in his time with the Brewers (Unless you consider fading every second half consistent though hopefully a DL stint will prevent that this year) Jeff Suppan-CD-He is pitching alot of innings still which is good but hasnt been very good recently. Hopefully continues his trends of hot second halves. Dave Bush-C He has been pretty good in his last couple of starts and taking out that six run inning against the Cubs he has been fairly average. Positioned for a nice second half run Claudio Vargas-BC-If he doesnt limit his BBs or keep up his high K rate and low BA with runners in scoring position, he is likely the odd man out if Gallardo makes a Se[tember return to the rotation Carlos Villanueva-A-Pitching like last season wasnt a fluke. Has kept the Crew in alot of games. Walked a few too many at times but.... Yovanni Gallardo-AB-Should be 3-0. Looks like Roy Oswalt with more Ks. Matt Wise-AB-Has been the most reliable relief pitcher in the pen and doesnt allow baserunners Derrek Turnbow-B-Not an all star like Yost claims and there are probably better set-up men. But seems to have put last season behind him Coco-B-a rough June keeps him from A. 7.5 ERA in June. Hopefully, a meltdown isnt going to happen and he stops the bleeding. Brian Shouse-D- He has had a nice run as a long man, but as a lefty specialist has not gotten that one batter as much as he should. Chris Spurling-D-His 1.56 Whip just cant be counted on in close game situations. And he doesnt have the endurance to be a good long man. Parra or Thatcher would probably be more valuable. Johnny Estrada-CD-His plate discpline has been bad even for him. A 2004 Johnny Estrada would be so cool. Yeah I am dreaming. Prince Fielder-A-If the season ended today, he would proably win MVP though they may be more worthy candidates. Could walk alittle more and strike out alittle less but it has been a fun ride Ricke Weeks-CD- He was still an .800 OPS bat 5 days ago, but just hasnt broke out. Hopefully his wrist is fully recovered in 2008 and he finally breaks out. JJ Hardy-AB-A terrible June, but if you would have told me before the season he would have an .850 OPS in July I would have said an A without blinking. Ryan Braun-A-Could use more consistency vs. righthanded pitching but dude can rake. Corey Hart-AB-PECOTA nailed a breakout season for Corey and judging by his track record he isnt a flash in the pan. His awkward lankyness may have kept him underrated on prospect lists and now on top MLB players list, but I really see no flaw in him as a player and a potentially 30/30 guy. A wirst injury keeps im from an A. Bill Hall-D-The Brewers are mediocre vs. right handed pitching and he is a culprite. It just has been a rough season for Billy. Bouncing around in the batting order, subpar defense, but he is still the center fielder for the next 3 1/2 years. Geoff Jenkins-AB-Yes I know the splits said e would be this good in a platoon role, but it is still good to see him flurish in it. Kevin Mench-C-His plate discpline is embarrasing, and Im not seeing the player that 51 home runs in 2004 and 2005 combined; however, he is starting to come around in his platoon role and his lefthander OPS is over .800 Gabe Gross-D-hasnt come close to 2006 numbers, and hasnt really made Jenkins expendible. Tony Graffinino-C-Its a darn good thing Melvin doesnt listen to me and DFA him when Braun came up because he had a 1.169 OPS in the month of June. Craig Counsell-C- His OBP is nice for a lineup that hits alot of dingers. Damian Miller-BC-hasnt complained about his role. Did he just do that?

To be fair the Brain Giles trade would have been incredibally good if Perez hadnt had a breakdown. They literally acquired a 22 year old left hander with a sub 3 era and a sub 1 WHIP and a .900+ OPS bat. A rotation of Perez, Bullington, VanBenschoten, Burnett, and Duke would have been darn good right now had those players lived up to their potential.

I believe Vokoun was traded to Florida for draft picks. I would think Nashville would sign a cheap veteran to back up Mason and let Rinne play every day in Milwaukee or that is at least what the optimist in me hopes. I guess every Admiral fan knew this day was going to come at some time. Still sucks though.

If the Brewers eat the remainder of his 3 million dollar salary, Marte shouldnt take that much to acquire (maybe a Jackson or DIllard). A .322 OPS against from lefthanders would look darn nice out in that bullpen.

With Braun (1.810 OPS) and Hart now batting every day the Brewers are killing left handers. Just a reason to optmistic about the Brewer's chances this weekend.
