  1. Luis Severino to the Mets. 1/$13M with $2M in potential bonuses.
  2. I mean not really. He's sacrificing maybe $25M to guarantee himself around $80M where he still hits FA at 28.
  3. If true should Brewers be interested? Randy has 3 years of team control. Randy for Mitchell and Wiemer is a fair deal according to BTV. Would you make that trade?
  4. If it's only an 8 year deal it's really not that big of a risk from Chourio. He would still be hitting FA at 28 and would only be losing one year of FA money because with no deal the Brewers would service time manipulate him to get basically 7 years of service time.
  5. Andrews issue is his FB has been like batting practice in the MLB. If he can't throw a FB at the MLB level without it getting smashed, he won't make it as an MLB reliever.
  6. If he signs 8 years for 110M or something like that he's really not risking that much money. He would still hit FA at 28 years old. Juan Soto is the most expensive ARB player ever and he's going to make around $83M before he hits FA. Let's say Chourio hits on all levels and would make $80M before hitting FA like Soto. A FA contract probably pays him around $35-40M AAV. Now if he doesn't extend the Brewers are likely going to manipulate service time to get the extra season before FA. So He would hit FA at 27 instead of 28. If he becomes a Soto level player you're probably talking $40M AAV so with no extension in his first 8 years being Soto level he would make around $80M in arb and $40M in his first year of FA. That's around $120M over 8 years. Nowhere near costing himself hundreds of millions.
  7. If Brewers are only buying 1-2 years of FA it won't cost anywhere near $150M to $200M
  8. Because demand will be higher at the deadline due to a smaller available pool of SP. It's a pretty strong SP FA class and there are guys like Glasnow, Cease, Bieber who could all be traded this offseason as well. Teams might not have the incentive to splurge on a Burnes trade offer when cheaper options are available or FA options are available.
  9. Are you 100% sure of that? Fangraphs has him with 2 options remaining to start 2024.
  10. Braves have said they plan to stretch Lopez out and that he will be a guy who goes back and forth between the rotation and bullpen. Based on that I don't think it will have any impact on the RP FA market or trade market.
  11. Rosenthal puts Burnes as least likely to be traded of the Glasnow, Bieber, Cease, Burnes group.
  12. Last year their planned rotation to start the year was this: Mikolas Montgomery Flaherty Wainwright Matz Their projected 2024 starting rotation currently looks like this: Mikolas Gibson Lynn Matz ? Is that actually improved? I mean Gibson and Lynn are better than Wainwright but clearly worse than Flaherty and Montgomery.
  13. Is signing 2 bad SP really trying to improve? Gibson has had 1 good season since Yelich won his MVP and is 36 years old. Lynn was one of the worst SP in baseball last year and turns 37 in May.
  14. St. Louis really going for broke in FA! Another mid to late 30's SP who isn't very good. Probably should slide the Brewers down to 5th in the division in 2024 with St. Louis breaking the bank like this!
  15. Eh he really hasn't been good since 2021 and he turns 37 in May. In 2022 he had a 102 ERA- and 93 FIP-. The surface numbers look pretty good but you have to take into consideration the offensive environment in 2022 was really bad league wide because of the dead baseballs so while the ERA might not look bad it was below league average. Plus he's lost velo on his FB since 2021. He lost about 1.5 mph on his FB from 2021 to 2023 and he's not getting any younger.
  16. Really makes the Colin Rea deal look pretty nice.
  17. Lance Lynn to the Cardinals for $10M guaranteed. With a signing like this you can guarantee 4th place in the NL Central for Milwaukee in 2024.
  18. Figured it was time to start a FA thread where we can talk about general FA signings.
  19. So with Brewers it's history, but with the Cubs you're giving them the benefit of the doubt that they are going to splash a ton of money...got it. Might as well get the doomering started for 2024 before we even hit January of 2024. Some fans will never be able to shake the inferiority complex.
  20. Doomering before FA has even heated up. I don't understand how people can do this.
  21. Yes and the Ricketts said they can't spend like that anymore.
  22. Cubs biggest contract ever given out was $184M. Color me a non-believer that they will sign Burnes in FA when he'll get significantly more than that. No clue why people are acting like the Ricketts are Cohen and will just spend unlimited money in FA.
