  1. Too much volatility in relievers will keep the trade returns down for arms like Payamps and Wilson. Now Williams should be a different story due to his consistent dominance, especially to a team like Baltimore, who need a replacement for the loss of Bautista and whose cheap owner would love Williams arby salary the next 2 years.
  2. Burnes performance for the Brewers next year plus the 33rd pick in the ‘25 draft plus the million plus in pool money vs the prospects received by trading him. Unless the team receives a big-league player back (extremely unlikely) in the trade, the team will be worse next year, and I don’t think that’s going to fly. Hader was a 9th inning only pitcher for this team vs a 200 inning starting pitcher in Burnes = no comparison. Burnes is more valuable. If the team trades a pitcher this offseason it should be Williams, because of the team’s incredible bullpen depth of impactful arms. They can get back to mixing and matching with their 5-headed monster of Uribe-Megill-Milner-Payamps-Peguero.
  3. With a hold of Burnes & Adames this team is poised to win the central again next year. This franchise has a loaded farm with waves of prospects at every level of the system. They don’t need prospects added thru a Burnes trade. Same with Adames. The picks & pool money added to the ‘25 draft will make that class even better than last years class which was extraordinarily great.
  4. I think it will be more about the people moving skills of Counsell than anything else. He has few peers in that realm, imo, and that’s far and away the most important attribute a manager can have.
  5. Or maybe Stearns thinks it was his FO the reason for the teams 1-run success with his building of superior bullpens year after year. Is Skip Schumacher really 20+ games over .500 great in 1-run games? Or does having Scott & co in that bullpen make it so?
  6. Agree they should not rebuild, not with the bullpen they have returning, that even without Williams, would be among the best in baseball. I’m advocating a trade of Williams because of the 5-headed monster they can mix & match to get away from a “9th inning only closer”, even if only for 1 season. My guess is Williams would return a stud IF prospect, near BL ready. This is the ultimate trading from an extreme depth position to help make the team stronger. Uribe-Megill-Milner-Payamps-Peguero-Ashby is as good of 6 man pen as there is anywhere, with the shuttle arm added from a deep minor-league system of pen arms available with options.
  7. This team’s farm has many strengths, but to have the teenage talent they have is incredibly exciting. Chourio-Lara-Knoth-Pratt-Bitonti-Adames-Yophrey-Baez — wow.
  8. Power bats & power arms. Power bat SS specifically needed.
  9. The farms pitching is about ready to breakout in a big way and when it does this system will be absolutely monstrous, and not just for a little bit, not with this team’s prospect procurement skill. Gasser-CRod-Misiorowski-Birchard-Henderson-Knoth, the young internationals and then the rest of the HS arms from last years draft have really turned around the farms pitching depth.
  10. It’s Tod Johnson & co. running the amateur draft since 2017. Montgomery’s last draft was in 2016.
  11. Capsular tears require surgery. 9-18 months recovery depending on if it’s an arthroscopic procedure or open surgery. He’s not pitching this postseason.
  12. Moreno’s skill at controlling the running-game has me nervous as heck. If we can’t run, we will likely have a harder time scoring, and conversely, I’m not confident in our ability to stop them from advancing once they reach base.
  13. Pretty simple. Brewers pitching vs DBacks offense. Brewers pitching needs to rise to the occasion. If that happens they will advance, if not, they won’t.
  14. Teheran was an easy call. Couldn’t pitch in the Cubs series due to the 4 innings he threw yesterday, wasn’t getting rostered for the postseason and is a FA after this season anyhow. Nice showcase outing vs the Cardinals for some team that will likely want to take a flyer on his services next year and I’m sure he learned a lot from our tremendous PDS that will help him moving-forward.
  15. Mitchell is a fast learner and very capable of making adjustments to his swing, which he has done in elevating and getting to some of his raw power. His swing is now short, but powerful. The K’s will come down with more PA’s like it did at AAA. Staying healthy is my concern. This guy is untradable until further notice.
  16. I think 4 rest days is fine for recovering from a 50-70 pitch start, which is where I think they will be going.
  17. Mitchell has already adjusted his swing to get to some of his raw power and I’m optimistic he’ll continue to adjust to making more contact. Outside of Chourio, Mitchell is the most talented player in the organization and the only concern I have is him staying on the field.
  18. It’s precisely the current strength of the farm and skill-level of the prospect-procurement systems as to why we don’t need to trade-off any of the big 3. The trade-off forces a re-set in ‘24 and a lost WS opportunity. Trading-off during the offseason doesn’t bring-back the return it does doing it at the trade-deadline, so that’s another reason I’m holding for the draft-picks and pool-money. I’ve been advocating for a Burnes trade this offseason, but with the ‘24 future of Aaron Ashby in doubt, I’ve changed my mind. Hoping the ‘23 playoff monies can encourage Attanasio & co to bump-up the ‘24 OD payroll.
  19. Agree, and considering the skill of Tod Johnson & co’s drafting, $15-$17M in pool $ plus one more year of the big 3, trumps the alternative. Next years team with the big 3, bullpen, and Black added to Mitchell-Frelick-Turang with a key trade and FA signing and that’s a 95+ win team.
  20. Why are you choosing to be oblivious to the realities of revenue disparities between small-medium and large-market teams?
  21. I find it hard to believe the Brewers play Black at 3B in the bigs as much as the Arnold-led team values defense. Hoping to see Black at 1B in ST and spend time at Nashville in the beginning of the year really learning that position. Long-term, OF could be where we see him, allowing for the trading of other OF’s to improve the team in other areas. I’d like to see Devanney with MKE at a minimum as a utility IF, but hoping they give him an opportunity to win the 3B job at some point if they don’t sign or trade for a 3B. The combination of glove, arm and pop makes him an intriguing player moving forward, imo.
  22. Could be a PH deluxe in the postseason.
  23. Yup. 11 pitchers— Woodruff (game 1 starter) Burnes (game 2) Peralta (game 3) Miley-Williams-Megill-Uribe-Payamps-Milner-Peguero-Wilson 15 positionals— Contreras-Caratini-Santana-Tellez-Canha-Turang-Monasterio-Adames-Donaldson-Yelich-Frelick-Taylor-Wiemer-Mitchell-Miller
  24. I respect Matt’s general baseball knowledge, especially in the pitching realm, but to have a Cubbies fan commenting on a Brewers website is not cool. The knowledge of all things Brewers just isn’t there and the eyeroll’s are reaching epic proportions.
  25. wRC+ of 139-127-122 the last 3 seasons prior to this mostly lost season with his knee injury. 29 years old, 30 HR bat. Probably gets 3-4 years at $16-$20M/year. I think the aim is plenty high.
