  1. I think 4 rest days is fine for recovering from a 50-70 pitch start, which is where I think they will be going.
  2. Mitchell has already adjusted his swing to get to some of his raw power and I’m optimistic he’ll continue to adjust to making more contact. Outside of Chourio, Mitchell is the most talented player in the organization and the only concern I have is him staying on the field.
  3. It’s precisely the current strength of the farm and skill-level of the prospect-procurement systems as to why we don’t need to trade-off any of the big 3. The trade-off forces a re-set in ‘24 and a lost WS opportunity. Trading-off during the offseason doesn’t bring-back the return it does doing it at the trade-deadline, so that’s another reason I’m holding for the draft-picks and pool-money. I’ve been advocating for a Burnes trade this offseason, but with the ‘24 future of Aaron Ashby in doubt, I’ve changed my mind. Hoping the ‘23 playoff monies can encourage Attanasio & co to bump-up the ‘24 OD payroll.
  4. Agree, and considering the skill of Tod Johnson & co’s drafting, $15-$17M in pool $ plus one more year of the big 3, trumps the alternative. Next years team with the big 3, bullpen, and Black added to Mitchell-Frelick-Turang with a key trade and FA signing and that’s a 95+ win team.
  5. Why are you choosing to be oblivious to the realities of revenue disparities between small-medium and large-market teams?
  6. I find it hard to believe the Brewers play Black at 3B in the bigs as much as the Arnold-led team values defense. Hoping to see Black at 1B in ST and spend time at Nashville in the beginning of the year really learning that position. Long-term, OF could be where we see him, allowing for the trading of other OF’s to improve the team in other areas. I’d like to see Devanney with MKE at a minimum as a utility IF, but hoping they give him an opportunity to win the 3B job at some point if they don’t sign or trade for a 3B. The combination of glove, arm and pop makes him an intriguing player moving forward, imo.
  7. Could be a PH deluxe in the postseason.
  8. Yup. 11 pitchers— Woodruff (game 1 starter) Burnes (game 2) Peralta (game 3) Miley-Williams-Megill-Uribe-Payamps-Milner-Peguero-Wilson 15 positionals— Contreras-Caratini-Santana-Tellez-Canha-Turang-Monasterio-Adames-Donaldson-Yelich-Frelick-Taylor-Wiemer-Mitchell-Miller
  9. I respect Matt’s general baseball knowledge, especially in the pitching realm, but to have a Cubbies fan commenting on a Brewers website is not cool. The knowledge of all things Brewers just isn’t there and the eyeroll’s are reaching epic proportions.
  10. wRC+ of 139-127-122 the last 3 seasons prior to this mostly lost season with his knee injury. 29 years old, 30 HR bat. Probably gets 3-4 years at $16-$20M/year. I think the aim is plenty high.
  11. Of course Uribe is one of them. I’d also add Megill to the list of stud bullpen arms, with his 100mph FB/knuckle CBcombo. Last 10.2 innings he’s K’d 21 batters. Both controlled for multiple years. That’s quite the nasty trio to look forward to dominating big-league hitters next season.
  12. Exactly, and the trend is for that to happen unless MKE can get to 88-89 wins BEFORE the showdown series to end the regular season. Someone has to beat Chicago and outside of Arizona maybe taking 2 of their 7 games and the Braves a game or maybe 2, I’m not seeing more than 2-3 losses of the 9 they play Colorado & Pittsburgh. 88-89 wins min before the 3 vs MKE.
  13. I don’t disagree with anything you said. I’ll only add the Yankees are hot, having won 7 of 8, and the Marlins, with Jazz Chizolm healthy again and swinging a hot bat are a better team than Arizona because of their pitching even without Alcantara.
  14. I think the world already knows the Brewers offense is devoid of power and thus pretty weak. The LAD are in serious trouble with their rotation, any baseball fan can see that and they are in danger of a quick exit from the postseason.
  15. Number 1 offseason priority should be to add power to the lineup. Trade Burnes and use the $16M saved to add a Rhys Hoskins. Then trade for a 3B. They have a strong enough farm now, bolstered with additions from a Burnes trade, to package an OF+ for a veteran, controlled 3B. If they can’t get that trade or sign a power DH bat Those 2 moves with improvement from the rookies along with more high-end talent coming from the farm should get the offense inside the top 15 offenses in baseball. Pitching-wise, Burnes spot replaced by Gasser, who is ready to face big-league hitters, to go with Woody-Peralta-Houser and a hopefully strong Ashby. They can bring back Miley or sign a FA starter. Bullpen with Williams-Payamps-Uribe-Milner-Megill-Peguero should be strong yet again. Adding 2 power bats to improving young positional talent makes this a more well-rounded team overall and the loss of Burnes can be overcome by that balance.
  16. To go from 92 in his first outing to 87 in his second is beyond concerning. They have to shut him down before he re-injures/injures his arm with his admittedly bad mechanics. This year doesn’t matter, next year does.
  17. I love Counsell and very rarely complain about any moves or non-moves he makes during or after Brewers games — but: Taking Megill out of the game after 17 pitches thrown in the 6th after he’s had 3 days of rest after throwing 31 pitches on Saturday was surprising to me, especially since he had been using him in fireman-type roles pitching 2 inning stints. Megill did give-up the game-tying hit, but K’d the other 2 batters faced and has just been outstanding lately, totally overwhelming hitters to the tune of 18K’s in the last 9 innings pitched, now up to 20K in 9.2IP. Megill for the 7th likely gets the team to the 8th all tied-up. Peguero has also been not good on back to backs and that was the situation when CC pitched him today. Just a head-scratcher for me.
  18. The DBacks beat Colorado today 12-5.
  19. He’s never throwing another pitch in MLB again.
  20. Not me. The Cubbies are a better team than the Reds so I want another loss for the Cubbies today. The Reds offense without McLain and with EDLC not able to hit breaking-balls is a shell of what it was. Abbott is on pace for 60+ innings over his max and has to get shutdown at some point doesn’t he????
  21. Anyone know Ashby’s velo last night?
  22. 60-day IL designation went away when the Yankees released him. He’s eligible to be brought-up at any time.
  23. If anyone should get a call-up from Nashville to replace Anderson it’s Cam Devanney, who unlike Black can defend 3B near as well as Anderson. .900 OPS in the last 90 days after getting his stroke back following his early season injury. 11% BB-rate & 17% K-rate on the year as well.
  24. Just more evidence the FO needs to DFA Chaffin to get rid of the bullpen’s only weak-link. Perfect game to be his last pitched game for this team.
  25. Velo back up to 94 for an inning or two before it drops, so for me he should be pitching 1 maybe 2 inning stints out of the bullpen. Gasser should be the spot starter if needed.
