  1. Burnes has made the deadline trade easier, PR-wise, because of how he bashed the team over arbitration. I’m of the belief a Burnes trade next offseason won’t net near the return of a deadline trade due to teams desire to trade their best prospects not being there because they can add FA talent instead. I’m also of the belief this team will contend for a championship in ‘23 & ‘24, provided they have 2 of the big 3 retained for the picks and can get a Burnes return that can improve the team in 2024 and beyond, also allowing for the team to improve the rotation next offseason thru FA. Not having Burnes post-deadline including playoffs will hurt, but a hopeful healthy Ashby can mitigate somewhat along with a Gasser that should also be ready to rotation later in the year. A trade-deadline return for Burnes should be franchise altering and add enough high-end controllable talent to make it worth the temporary bad PR from some fans.
  2. That’s where I was at as well, but Burnes’s calculated “tantrum” vs the team after his arby hearing has me now wanting him gone, and the beautiful thing about a deadline trade is the team can pick the best overpay and that should be enough to sustain the playoff contention window and keep the team from having to reload/rebuild. This team can still contend for a title without Burnes in ‘23 & ‘24. They have enough SP, post-deadline, headlined by Woodruff/Peralta with Miley/Lauer/Houser/Wilson/Gasser as well. Holding on to Woodruff & Adames in ‘24, while adding 2 core players from the Burnes trade, and having the financial-flexibility to add a nice FA starter on a 2-5 year deal makes this team stronger in ‘24 than with Burnes. That’s my opinion and I’m going to stick with it.
  3. Yeah, if I’m running things, and we have a healthy rotation this July, I’m trading Burnes for the best return I can get, which should be more than what Cincinnati got for Castillo. i’m then holding Woody & Adames for the 4-5 WAR seasons they each get me and the draft-picks, so I can still try to go win a title in ‘23 &’24. A stud BLR starter & a stud BLR positional from Burnes added to the dynamic positional prospect talent at the ready, should extend the teams contention ability indefinitely.
  4. I get that, and it is frustrating, but like with Hiura, I don’t see the team keeping Frelick in Nashville until S2, just to gain the extra arby year.
  5. It’ll be interesting sending them back to Nashville if they rake while rostered. Plus it forces the team to roster ahead of when they might want to. Just easier going with Naquin/Anderson in RF.
  6. Saving Mark money? That’s not the reason the team will keep the trio down for the minimum 15 days. Its all about the extra year isn’t it? And it absolutely should be. We all know this SM team has to max out their talent to have a chance to compete long-term, and to pretend that shouldn’t be the priority, imo, is sorta ridiculous. If the team is going to extend any of the trio they need that extra year as leverage as well. That should be the priority, not potentially losing that year just to have them rostered OD.
  7. Yes, especially during the offseason when teams just aren’t desperate enough to trade their best prospects, choosing the FA route instead. This is why I believe the team will hold Burnes and only trade him at the deadline if they are out of contention. Burnes & the draft-pick will likely be more valuable than trading Burnes during the offseason.
  8. I agree with you that Arnold is the biggest reason for the Brewers minor league success. His talent evaluation skills & player development background were very likely what made him wanted by Stearns in the first place. The team’s recent success internationally, imo, is in large part thanks to him and his work with Mike Groopman. If CC decides to take time away from the game for family reasons, I’m confident Arnold/Attanasio will replace him with a manager that can keep this winning train moving along. I’ve never been more confident in the trajectory of this organization as I am right now.
  9. He sure looked good pitching against us while with Pittsburgh. I sure do love this team’s PDS. Fascinating to see what happens with him this spring.
  10. Agree with the author that Bryse Wilson is a virtual lock to make the bullpen unless he really stinks it up in ST. I think the Brewers feel his stuff will play-up some pitching shorter stints out of the pen as well.
  11. Not having Hader’s 4.24 ERA & Roger’s 5.48 ERA should help with the performance of this year‘s bullpen over last year’s pen.
  12. I’m hoping the team can add a couple of big-armed starter prospects into the system from this draft. We have a decent number of 3-5 starter potentials in the farm right now, but outside of Misiorowski, no realistic frontline starters.
  13. They protected the teams future while at the same time improving the ‘23 team. They also have financial flexibility moving forward for opportunistic acquisitions both by trade (adding salary) or FA.
  14. Couldn’t disagree more. I’m giving them an A offseason. Arnold & co. have improved the offense (Contreras & Winker), starting pitching depth (Miley, Wilson, Junk, Miller) pen arms (too numerous to list, but a boatload and a half at least), infield depth (Anderson, Miller, Toro), and OF depth (Perkins, Bolt, Harrison). They’ve improved the farm’s pitching depth as well (Yeager, Seminaris, Hernandez, Junk). They accomplished all this without blocking their talented AAA prospects from playing-time if they perform.
  15. I would agree with that assessment. But there’s something to be said with mixing and matching as well, especially from a team that has had a lot of success doing that in the past. They have more “stuff” arms than they’ve had since the Knebel-Jeffress-Hader days. I like the odds of this team finding multiple closing options after this season moving forward.
  16. Things change. Uribe, Guerra, Peguero, Varland, all have the stuff to close if they breakout
  17. Getting something is better than nothing if he ends up injured. Throwing that pitch makes his arm a ticking time-bomb and maybe some GM will take a chance.
  18. Hoping for some serious breakouts from among our large stable of bullpen possibilities this season. Hopefully he gets thru the championship season healthy and the team has other closer options moving forward so we can trade Devin next offseason.
  19. Yeah, I think Sal was just in over his head as GM of the Brewers and it also was awful timing for him with Selig leaving his Brewers to save the game for small-market teams, including his. No real budget left for him by Wendy (Bud, even tho completely out of decision-making and ownership of the team to eliminate conflict of interest, likely didn’t want the team to win too much, while he and Reinsdorf convinced the large market owners to share revenue). But his hires could have been better, and as you pointed out, he could have sold-off, gone young, but wow, probably wouldn’t have helped much with the teams poor drafting and non-existent international department (Nilsson notwithstanding). Good guy, and pretty cool he decided to stay in Wisconsin to live-out his life.

  21. I also wanted Burnes traded this offseason, but I’m guessing they were quite disappointed with their feeler trade options. I also think they should not sign any of the 3 to extentions, but if they do sign 1 I hope it’s Woodruff. Where I differ the most is in thinking the team doesn’t have the talent in the farm to continue to contend post-big 3 with just draft-picks. I believe they do. And with 2 more drafts and 2 more minors seasons I’m confident they could even have a couple of starters ready to rotation, besides Gasser. I don’t think the team will want to take a step back in ‘24, instead choosing to go for it again with the big 3.

  23. Ok, so when does the team trade the big 3? Assuming they are in contention the next two seasons.
  24. I don’t think it makes any difference since based on him saying he expects to begin the year at Nashville, my guess is the team has already told him that’s where he’ll be to start the year.
  25. I just don’t see the team trading any of the big 3 if they are in contention. Maybe an extension on Woodruff or Adames, so my guess would be — A Woodruff extension and the other 2 held for the picks and all-in to win.
