    Woodruff is massively undervalued on BTV. To have less than half of Burnes value is silly, so any trade involved Woodruff using that site isn’t gonna work for me.

    Optionable depth is always a good thing. If they actually need his roster spot some day they can just DFA him.

    They like their position prospects and after watching them and following them, I certainly can see why. To add an impactful controlled bat takes 3 top prospects +, and thankfully the team didn’t go that route. It’s taken the team 7 years to build-up the farm system positionally and they aren’t going to trade-off what they have for 1 impact bat that improves their WS odds by 1.5%..

    Lining-up the talent to match Burnes/Woodruff was never going to happen. It takes time to draft and develop. They had Zero positional prospect talent post-Yelich trade. And once Yelich regressed and Cain dove off a cliff they couldn’t do much to help match their pitching.

    Depends on what the team does with Wong, Renfroe & Burnes. The payroll is already at $123M, so adding ~$20M with no trades of the aforementioned isn’t going to work. The team would probably need to trade at least 2 of them if not all 3 to free up the payroll space to add Abreu, plus a possible catcher, reliever, and starter depth. Maybe some of that can come back to us from the trades, but payroll will need to be shed if we want to add a $20M type player.

    Robinson got hit pretty hard once promoted to AAA, so they might think teams don’t think he’s ready for the leap to the big-leagues. Can Devanney could easily get taken. 25/26, close to big-league ready, power, good defender. It’s quite the gamble to leave him unprotected, imo.

    Either of Eflin or Stripling would work at $9-$11M/year, along with Jose Quintana at $12M/year. Move Houser to the bullpen if the team holds onto Burnes/Woodruff.     This is great news, if it comes to fruition, for those of us that want Burnes sold to the highest bidder for prospects that should add the young, controllable talent critical to this teams future success.

    Absolutely trade Williams. His value will never be higher and this could be the backup plan to get some of the big-armed Dodgers pitching if Burnes is held. No Vargas though. Miller & Pepiot works, so does Stone & Pepiot & Vesia. Upper minors big-armed starter prospects is what this team needs above all else, imo. With Diaz off the market and competition high for the likes of Suarez, Montero & Chafin, and the Dodgers needing a healthy closer, Williams could be their answer.

    This is why Burnes should be traded THIS offseason vs next. This offseason, it’s highly likely as part of the return, a top 5-8 pitching prospect would be part of the return, maybe even another near top 15 as well depending on the team. I’ll take my chances with that type of arm/arms and this teams PDS.

    I wouldn’t hate a Woodruff extension, mostly for the reasons you’ve given, but I prefer to trade Woody next offseason for his younger replacement. If we’re going to extend anyone, I want it to be Adames. At least we’d get most of his prime in the extension.

    Just don’t think it’s good idea for this SM team to extend a pitcher with most, if not all of his contract years post-prime. I’d prefer the trade route with the return being a big-armed starter prospect. This team has shown they can develop starting pitching, so I’m just going to trust they can continue to develop the starters, especially when they have a big arm to work with.

    No way Baltimore gives up the #1 pitching prospect in baseball, the top pick in last years draft, their top LH starter prospect and another top 75 prospect in Westburg for any package, let alone Burnes plus plus plus. The Woodruff extension could happen, but Adames and Lauer are too low. Houser is just not worth extending. The Renfroe trade seems fair.

    Turang is not an elite defensive SS, BA has him graded at 50 field and 50 arm, while MLB pipeline has him at 60 field and 55 arm. My eye-test from watching him play approximately 10 games in-stadium is above average field with a slightly above average arm, so no Adames. Keep Adames at SS, put Turang at 2B and have Urias at 3B. Turang’s range at 2B and better arm than Urias will payoff with the shift limitations, and should also payoff with more DP’s with Turang having a must faster release than Urias.

    Wiemer could have been bothered by his thumb injury for longer than he let on. So, I’m more interested in his time with Nashville when we know he was 100% healthy. Mitchell has only played in 160 professional games, including 28 with the big-club, so looking forward to him hopefully staying healthy so we can see what he can do over a full season.

    A Development staff that’s been revamped under Stearns/Arnold over the last 2-3 years. A development staff that has helped Mitchell and Wiemer lower their K rate and improve their walk rate. Turang start to realize some power the second-half of last season. Look at all the hitters that improved as the minors season played out. I think every one of our top 8-9 position players finished the year strong in the box. I don’t think it’s an accident.
