  1. Count yourself lucky, as an irishman I've no chance of seeing any :P But yeah good point, even if it was redistributed among grassroots etc, where does it currently go?
  2. Wouldnt it be interesting if the luxury tax went to the teams who didnt go over the limit Owners may not use it, but fan pressure is a thing
  3. Given they're in the 90% tax, this would be taking 19 Million off their bill, not that Cohen will care too much
  4. What would it take to re-acquire him? The Mets already hoped he'd be pushed out a little by Brett Baty coming through, so is he potentially 3rd choice now? In which case it really might not take a lot to get him, and the SH + 1B skills could be very handy indeed. Could be the perfect acquisition
  5. The mets are just looking nuts, added some HR power, Better defense to a lineup that was already a hugely consistent one, and with that Starting rotation being near the top (if healthy), i think how insane their BP looks is really bonkers. David Robertson is their 7th inning guy....
  6. Carlos Correa had a difference in opinion with the Giants about a result on his medical, and has pivoted to the Mets (deal again pending physical) but will be interesting to see if they've already agreed this flagged up issue isn't a concern for the Mets Will be playing 3rd Base, and makes that left side of the infield a thing of beauty Potential Top of their Lineup 1. Brandon Nimmo 2. Franciso Lindor 3. Carlos Correa 4. Pete Alonso
  7. Really glad to see I'm not the only one who sees a serious serious upside, and I do wonder with his ceiling if we'd be chatting about him more if there wasnt a certain other prospect who's ceiling is sky high.. I think he has the ability to be a franchise changing player and as such should be considered mostly off the trade market, and personally I'd have him higher than Mitchell for sure in my estimations (and I really liked the energy and defense Mitchell provided) Didnt know about the injury, but those are some starkly changing figures in June/July and is a real testament to his character. Maybe does need a little more time to see how he fares with a bigger sample etc, but there's something about potential that makes you get so damn excited, particularly given his average over the healthy months was 285, which is probably his weakest tool Genuinely feel we could have a guy here who could regularly produce an OPS of over 850 for 5 seasons with high quality RF defense and speed So is he really a comparable talent to Garrett Mitchell?
  8. I hadnt noticed about the first 10 days, thats a great observation! Settling in, new pitch level, it seems his SO rate at Nashville may be a little inflated, but obviously only time will tell Question after that is, what sort of SO rate in first say 2-3 months of AAA season would make you sit up and say he needs to be moved up? Something below 22%?
  9. Probably something big, realistically (and i say this while trying to remember if it was him and arozarena having a public argument), he's one of the best bats they have, with not a ton coming through in that position Given they havent added to their offense in any way so far, I think he's unlikely to be traded unless they got a clear mismatch package at this stage
  10. Erik Longenhagen has just posted this on fangraphs "Wiemer has a rare size/athleticism combination and wields an elaborate swing that produces huge pull-side power. He crushes mistakes, and has 48 career bombs in about a season-and-a-half’s worth of pro games. While his peak exit velocities have long been tops among his peers, college and pro, he didn’t really start launching homers until after he was drafted, when it appears his swing and approach changed. Constant max-effort hacking often leads to lots of strikeouts, but Wiemer had mostly kept his Ks in check until 2022, when he punched out 30% of the time at Double-A Biloxi. His strikeout rate improved upon promotion to Triple-A, albeit in a smaller sample. Look under the hood and there is cause for concern. Wiemer often swings inside pitches on the outer third of the strike zone, and his in-zone swing and miss rates are on par with the bottom handful of big league outfielders who saw at least 300 PA in 2022, among names like Joey Gallo and Christopher Morel. While not quite as mountainous as skill set-cousins Gallo or Jorge Soler, Wiemer’s size and physicality set him apart from other players, even big leaguers, and he seems likely to get to power in big league games by virtue of how much raw thump he has. He projects as a slugging five- or six-hole hitter in a typical contending lineup, with contact issues that will create some whiff-prone stretches and significant year-to-year variance." I'm guessing most major leaguers have some holes in their swings? Obviously this is much better exploited by Majors pitching, and this does sound like a sizeable one, like a prime target for a good slider down and away However given the improvements at Triple A, namely in strikeout and Walk %, you'd wonder if towards the latter part of the season did he start to cover the plate better and as a result develop more solidity. If someone had a gap that large you'd expect Triple A pitchers to get better and better at dismantling him at the plate Where would people usually find these more i depth stats about minor leaguers?
  11. So this is probably one of the prospects that excites me the most, due to his very large ceiling and the improvements he made at Nashville, but also aware that while I udnerstand talks about swings on a physics level, its not my forte Suggested that his biggest weakness is his SO rate, at Nashville in August he had a 27.6% (24/87) and only 6 walks in that time. In September, over 63 AB's, his SO rate was 15.9%, Striking out just 10 times in comparison with 15 walks. He's adjusted to a toe tap earlier in the year to allow more time to get to the ball, which I'm guessing takes a little getting used to, and although small sample size makes me think there's maybe a higher floor here than we realise His defense looks promising, a quick runner on the basepaths with above average speed (albeit no Garrett Mitchell) but his cannon of an arms is astounding, look how quickly this admittedly blurry video gets his throw to home. Runner is out by 30 ft! Then you've got what the scouts say about the plus side of his bat, with lightning fast hands to balance out his larger than average swing, and monstrous power to go with it. He's had multiple 30/30 seasons, with great senses on the base paths Is this not a potential genuine 5 tool prospect? Maybe the hit tool alone is just slightly above average or average, but he has developed a good walk rate and a very nice OBP, with ridiculous power and strong stealing abilities, offensively seems to have a hell of a ceiling Question is, am I missing something?
  12. The question then comes, who would you call a fair trade for either of these guys? Personally rate Weimer a little higher than Mitchell, who might get more due to his strong, if slightly lucky, start to the Big time Would Pablo Lopez be the kind you're looking for?
  13. Another strong one is what would it cost for 2 Years of Scott Barlow in a trade from Kansas City?
  14. Given his figures over 2021 & 2022, I'd maybe be willing to go 2/16 for Chafin, the others not so much That or could be tempted for a 3/40-45 (Maybe this is another underestimate) for Eovaldi maybe? and Move Houser to the Pen?
  15. Abdrew Chafin looks excatly what the club needs, solid, dependable reliever with low 3's ERA over his career, issue with injuries last year but maybe a good person for a 5/6m deal
  16. I think he may have been struggling with a thumb injury for quite a while too, he didnt make a big deal of it, but could have played apart. A lot of raving about him early last year, and there's definitely still potential, he goes through stretches where he's super clutch too I likle him and in the 6/7/8 area he's definitely a weapon, plus his fielding and more importantly his throwing was hugely improved last season
  17. A good way to reset this thread... Would I rather have Owen Miller than Feliciano right now? 100% We have a 3rd catcher in Henry Feliciano is the Dominican league is god awful right now with a 193/261/205 line, and hasnt shown much improvement at the plate, as well as regressing with the bat (per reports I heard throughout the season). A player who had promise but seems largely unfulfilled now. Miller has a promising AAA stats line, a very fast athletic guy with versatility and probably allows Toro to spend a little more time honing his skills at that level as he's more upside... certainly more useful in here and now than Feliciano who I'm guessing most of the attachment is due to his initial promise over recent performance
  18. I think he meant ISO, though again if someone is that fast ISO is less relevant, just get him on base somehow. His starting position can be slightly further from 1st base, and with PO rules, he could be a very good pickup. You wonder if infields in will help detract from his value at all, and ofc SS arms will be much better but you can see upside Apparently Baseball prospectus did an article (I cant access it) that by mid June, he had attempted 31 bunts. Thats a lot, though would lal these be included as batted balls (does attempted bunts include ones that go foul?) If so, then his HH rate jumps by 50%, again a question of can he make contact at MLB level, and obviously as a CF he may be above average defensively and offensively. Good points, I think I've undervalued him, though as you said, its a good trade for the Brewers regardless
  19. I mean, even if he bunts 10% of the time, that'll be an incredibly low hard hit rate for Triple A, never mind the Majors Though Fangraphs has his projected ISO at .146 which isnt too bad... He's quick enough that a 700 OPS is probably an effective 780 or so with his base stealing, though again you'll find stronger arms at MLB level than in the minors, and I think he got caught a few times in AFL too (he had a really poor campaign there) In 2022 in his limited time in the majors - Average EV was 73 mph, Max EV was 100.2. 3.6% Barrel rate, 10.7% Hard hit rate, and heavy pull hitter (makes sense if trying to beat out the SS/3B throw) - He was goot at making contact with pitches outside the zone (70+%) but still swung at 43% of those outside I think I could see how if he had a stronger bat tool or developed he could be a fun player, but he's definitely risky, and tbh i think if the A's had contreras DHing and traded him next year or at the deadline for someone needing a bat, they'd have a lot more. But time tells doesnt it
  20. I have to disagree with the last bit I think to demonstrate the Brewers as a force, they'll need Winker to be really performing at a very high level again, and to Keep Taylor but move on Winker would seem very strange. Also seems very optimistic to suggest that Taylor/Weimer outperform Winker to that extent, Yelich finds a way to get a little further out in front of him to utilise his exit velos, and two ROY candidates all together, just a lot of things needing to go right there to trade a DH with a potential to hit at 850-950 OPS I actually think Mitchell may struggle due to the "LA" swing which rarely reaches and performs well at the majors, and Weimer possibly has the highest ceiling (Bar Chourio) Just cant see it, though even having contreras DH for LH starters and Winker for RH starters is such an asset
  21. Hey guys (big crew fan here from Ireland!) Know my knowledge is a little more limited given I've never played the sport, but can get by fairly well via stats and understanding mechanics when spoken about Found it very interesting that they wanted Ruiz, remember the trade with the twins where the A's targeted Pache, as a speedy defensive specialist who gets on base and uses his speed effectively. Didnt work with Pache but its clear to se what specifically they're looking for from that position Be interesting to see how he goes, Speed kills but given the lack of power he would certainly have been my 4th favourite of the brewers outfielders, and would question, despite the Triple A stats, if he can get OB enough in the major to abuse this power As for the return, I'm fairly sure a lot of us didnt expect we'd be able to get any catcher with this sort of offensive capability. Given the crews history with developing catchers on defense, and this guys attitude and drive, Im really shocked at the price we got him for. I think both teams enquired about Murphy, but It sounds like the A's strong armed the Braves into acquiring Ruiz for the trade, and the brewers have absolutely leveraged that to the full. I'm curious why the Braves were so desperate for Murphy, I wonder did they see an issue with Contreras, or more due to D'Arnaud's injury history and Pinas LT injury last year?
