  1. At that price, I'm surprised the Yankees didn't sign him to a minor league deal for a million more to stock up on "AAA depth".
  2. If you do decide to go this route, I would recommend working at a place that is not a chain. As long as they're successful. Some mom and pop places are really slow or focus on dine-in and I've had friends that worked there and made squat because they got like 1 delivery an hour. For people who have delivered pizzas in the past, do you have to share your tips? I assume you get paid a base pay per hour in addition to tips. You pay for your own gas typically, correct? No, I never had to share tips. Typically, you're paid around minimum wage and then mileage in addition to your tips. Some places pay by the mile ($.20), some give you a percentage (5-6%), and some pay a flat rate per delivery ($.85 at my last pizza job). So yes, you have to pay your own gas, maintenance, etc, but you get at least enough to cover gas in one of the 3 ways I listed. Rarely, places will have their own cars that you drive (Pizza Hut did not too long ago), but they've been moving away from this for some time. Also, when there's a delivery charge, you DON'T get that (anywhere I worked at least)- it "goes toward your mileage reimbursement", but is really fee companies tagged on in the last few years to keep their prices on the menu/coupon competitive.
  3. Pizza delivery. I typically made about $12-14 an hour for very minimal actual work.
  4. They controllers don't have the technology to really establish where the punches are aimed I'd have to assume you'd use triggers for head punches, cuz yeah, it'd be a nightmare of powerglove proportions to have the motion alone dictate where the punch goes.
  5. So I mentioned this in the video games thread, but figured I'd re-post here. I have Grand Theft Auto 4, Assassin's Creed, The Simpson's Game, and Turok for PS3 that I'd like to trade. The games I really want are Fallout 3, Ratchet and Clank, and Uncharted, but I'll trade for any game that seems interesting. For games worth more than mine, I'm definitely willing to add cash or a second game to balance the trade out. Also, I'm not a memorabilia collector, but if someone has some cool Brewers stuff to trade, I'm open to listening to offers.
  6. At risk of sounding like a MP parking lot soak, stuff like this is a big reason I like living in cities with large public transportation systems and cab fleets No doubt. I hate that Texas is obsessed with it's trucks, and public transportation is nil. Short of a limited number of very expensive cab companies that you have to call and wait for (they don't hang out downtown waiting for a fare), you have no way of getting home without driving. If it weren't for my GF being a very light social drinker, I couldn't get hammered unless I stayed at home. Even back in Eau Claire we had a couple cab companies that could get you home for under 10 bucks. You could go out and take a cab home every Friday and Saturday for a year for less than $1000. With us typically splitting it 3-4 ways, even from an emotionless financial standpoint, there was no reason to risk driving.
  7. That's the code to face Tyson, and that is from memory. Sad, huh? After all these years, I have still never beaten Tyson. I've never even knocked him down. I can input that code in about 3 seconds without even thinking of what the numbers are, just listening to the sound, so you're not the saddest among us. I'm probably only .500 against Tyson now, but I used to be able to beat him without being knocked down. I won many a $10 after-bar bet against people who thought Tyson was impossible. It was actually Super Macho Man that gave me the most trouble.
  8. There's no ball and glove logo, but it's the retro color scheme and font in white with blue pinstripes. I guess it's technically the "alternate" jersey. http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51QGK0Xo-YL._SL160_AA160_.jpg
  9. If the game has to be an FPS, you might want to take a Look at Resistance 1&2 (haven't played personally). I've played the 1st one and it's great, though it was too short. The sequel is supposed to be even better but also too short. I just picked up some mediocre games (Haze, Turok, Quake Wars) for $10 each with free shipping, so I'll be busy with those until I decide there's something really worth $60. Oh, and Battlefield: Bad Company is pretty good and can be had for $30 new or $20-ish used on Amazon. I might be tempted to buy a copy now, but I've already played it a bit at my friend's house. Download the demo and see what you think. *Also, if anyone's up for swapping PS3 games, I have Grand Theft Auto 4 and Assassin's Creed that I'd be willing to trade. My short list includes Ratchet and Clank, Uncharted, and Fallout 3.
  10. Just got the gf a Prince youth jersey for $14 and a buddy a regular one for $20. Just an FYI. I got mine the same and it looks great. I though it was supposed to be the current jersey, but we got the retro one, which was actually what she prefers anyway. My $23 Braun jersey is also awesome.
  11. I'm not sure why people around here are so fascinated by Greinke. Once upon a time, Greinke had struggled and had some psych problems that put his future in doubt. At that time, he may have been reasonable to acquire, but now he's a 25 year-old top of the rotation pitcher. I think people are still under the illusion that he could be had at his potential 2006 price. As much as I'd love to get him and longed for us to make an offer in 2006, he's not coming at less than a king's ransom. At any rate, there's no way a pitcher with Greinke's history is worth an All-Star SS and a top 25 prospect (guessing on BA's rank). I'd be mildly disappointed if Hardy was traded for Greinke straight up. Dude just posted a 3.47 ERA (3.65 FIP) over 202 IP at age 24. That's not a player you're going to get without giving up a whole crap load. As much as I like Hardy, Melvin would buy a couple years of free passes on shaky moves from me if he pulled off a trade for Greinke.
  12. Unfortunately we shouldn't be paying market value for mediocrity. Agreed. "The Market" is set largely by impulsive GM's with big payrolls who've still fielded crap teams (Mariners-Silva, Batista; Giants-Zito; Rockies-Hampton, Neagle; Rangers-Park, Padilla; Dodgers-Schmidt, Brown, Dreifort; Yankees-a substantial list) .
  13. I didn't go back and re-read the whole thread to see if this had been mentioned, but relevant to our current anger, perhaps the rules could be amended so that teams spending at or over the luxury tax limit receive no free agent draft compensation. That would help with balance a bit while probably not being a big sticking point with the union, since it's just a couple of non-union kids who'll eventually become union members by the team who signs them anyway. I mean, I think it makes sense that if you can sign any free agent under the sun, you aren't hurt by other teams signing away your players, which is the intent of free agent compensation.
  14. you'll see that Suppan has been an average #4 pitcher or a very good #5. We all don't like Suppan not because he doesn't belong in the rotation, but because of his bloated contract. I hate the guy as much as anybody, but agree that you can't argue that Suppan's not worthy of a spot in the majority of MLB rotations. Even the reigning world champs had to trot out Kendrick and Eaton for a total of 49 starts. His career ERA+ is right at 100 while he's a lock for 30 starts. The problem is that he's a decent #4/5 pitcher who's being paid to be a quality starter. If Suppan were signed for $9MM over 2 years, nobody would be that upset about him because he'd have been paid appropriately.
  15. It's incredibly easy to change them. All you need is a plastic spatula to pull the dash panel and a stubby phillips screwdriver or 1/4 drive ratchet set to release the 2 screw on each speaker. I did mine in maybe 20 minutes.
  16. there was a quote from Melvin that made me think that the Brewers were only interested in Looper on a 1 year deal. Yeah, I think we need to wait and see the details of any possible deal before we completely defend or attack it. Melvin may simply have assumed the market for Looper was gonna be really weak and will offer a contract accordingly. I'm in the preliminary stages of looking for a new house, and I've definitely scouted some Braden Loopers of the housing market because I've guessed the sellers are desperate in this bad economy and I may be able to come out way ahead on the deal, but I have no interest in paying full pre-recession value for those houses. If I float enough offers that are great for me, I'm gonna get turned down enough, but I'm guessing someone finally bites out of desperation. This may be exactly what the Moustache is doing.
  17. I would say that Giambi had 4 good-very good years, and last year was so-so for his salary. While the entire length of the deal was not a complete disaster, $23,428,571 is not, IMO, at all justified by an .875 OPS for a 1B/DH. However, like you said, in only 3 of the years can you really say the deal looked bad for a team with deep pockets, and we also need to acknowledge is was backloaded and those early years were pretty cheap for a guy coming off 2 consecutive seasons with an OPS above 1.
  18. The feeling old benchmark for me was when my favorite baseball players I looked up to were the same age and younger than I was. Yeah, I'm just barely over the threshold of having any right to feel old, and that was pretty much it for me: the day I realized I went from seeing these guys as what I wanted to be when I grow up to referring to them as "kids". Also, working with a family with 3 kids and both parents are younger than me.
  19. Jeeptweeter.com sells the parts that always go out on those pretty cheaply. I've had to use them twice for the horrendous dash speakers they put in Grand Cherokees. Looks like that part is $195. link
  20. I'm done with Walgreens. Their service is garbage. Why does it take 2 and a half hours to fill my prescription? It's nasal spray, which comes pre-packaged in a box. All they do is slap a sticker on it, and that's supposed to take over 2 hours? Forget 'em, I went to Albertson's and it literally took 5 minutes. My prescription has officially been transferred and I will never return to Walgreen's - they've been Crudaled.
  21. plus what would happen to teams like the Marlins or the Devil Rays, whose good players are still young? what happens if they end up below the salary floor? should they be forced to put money into a player they don't want? I think they'd be best with a general operating expenses or player expenses floor. That leaves a team with multiple options for getting up the the floor, so they could sign a young star to an extension and pay a bonus up front, or they could pay more in the draft by going after 1st round talent that fell to the 3rd or 4th due to signability issues. The league could do a lot of things without making the salary floor a problem for teams.
  22. Some churches have football clubs, there have to be a few with a baseball watching group. That or the coffee shop suggestion are probably the best options other than staying at home.
  23. Yankees scouting David Price for 2014?
  24. That's a 95% chance of being a blower motor, IMO. That, or a problem with the switch or resistor, but motors are the most likely of those things to fail because it's cheap moving parts. I used one of those plug-in heaters when my blower went out and I didn't wanna fix it in 0 degree winter, but it was like 20bucks. If you're gonna fix it, may as well replace the blower. Actually, if you just have the heater on with no blower, it'll warm up a tad after a long time, so you'll hopefully be good on that long trip.
  25. Trying to tie the two together because they're two-pitch pitchers isn't fair to either one. I too have two pitches: eephus and a blistering 70mph heater. I probably coulda gone pro if I developed a changeup to keep hitters off balance after the heat.
