  1. I wouldn't necessarily mind signing those "bad players" so long as they're signed to bad player contracts. Mota, for example, wouldn't be so bad as long as he's signed to the kind of deal that makes it easy to pull the plug and release him if he totally sucks. But yeah, you totally don't want another Gagne $10MM contract preventing you from signing someone good.
  2. Unless the money saved by trading Cameron is needed and used to sign a front-line pitcher AND that or another trade brings us an acceptable CF or almost-ready prospect, I wouldn't endorse any plans to make Kapler our starting CF.
  3. However, as was noted, apostrophes are NOT used to make nouns plural. For example, you do not say "I ate three hamburger's", or "they cost 5 dollar's".
  4. I hope Ryan leaves permanently. He had the potential to be funny, but I've always thought he played way too large a role for what should be a minor arrogant character who speaks in buzzwords.
  5. If the Padred pulled a $4MM offer to Hoffman off the table, I can't see them offering him arbitration where he's certainly not going to get less than that.
  6. That sucks, and it sucks for the payroll as well. You aren't gonna find a free agent to sign a 1 year deal for that kind of cash that''ll go 80 IP with an ERA under 4.00.
  7. so the mods are all fat ladies? Do they sing? No, we all suck at singing and don't know anything about it. That's why we're on the internet talking about it like a bunch of losers who don't understand the 5 tools of singing or how much vibrato actually matters to real singers and not just a bunch of losers with a calculator who never even made the cut for an a capella group.
  8. I think it's wise to give him a tiny salary with big incentives for starts. We have big holes left by CC and Sheets, but we have enough mediocre depth that Cappy wouldn't be getting playing time unless he's at least decent. I'd be happy to see us pay a couple million for mediocrity if it comes with a lot of starts.
  9. Now that I have a stable job that I like and feel very productive during the day, I fall asleep in 15 minutes. When I worked my last job, which sucked, it would regularly take an hour, even though I felt tired. Contentment and lack of daily stress seems to play a huge role.
  10. Seems to totally depend on the brand, like burnie said. I wear anywhere from 10.5 to 11.5 depending on the brand, but most are 11.
  11. I was a bit disappointed with the Mirror's Edge demo, but Endwar seemed pretty cool. I've downloaded the Valkyria demo, but haven't gotten around to it yet. I'm trying to decide between Resistance 2 and Fallout 3 for my next purchase, but after hearing that Resistance 2 is 10 hours long, I think I'll wait until a friend beats it and just borrow theirs for a weekend.
  12. Pretty much the only skill I have which people consider impressive is mimicry. Guess that's why I went into a field where the most important skill is detailed observation of people's behavior.
  13. W-L should never be used to judge hitting, because offense is only half of the game. The best offensive team in the league could still be under .500 if they're the worst pitching and fielding team in the league. To judge offense, you can only look at offensive outcomes, just like you can only judge pitching by pitching outcomes.
  14. BrIaN AnD TeH MoDs R NaTsEeS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahah!!!!!!!!!!!!!! UR rulz R da STOOOOpiDZZZZZ!!!!!!!! i"d luv 2 c u try 2 shut Me up, U whimP whO LIves wiTh Ur MOM, iM a Navee sEel and have 3 blackBELTTS.
  15. I'll gladly trade you all the Sonics in Texas for a Culver's in my town. The food just kinda has this weird grease flavor no matter what you order. The Cherry Limeade, however, is pretty darn good.
  16. edit. hmm, won't let me paste the code.
  17. How crazy would it be for all of us who suffered through the lean years to see the Brewers acquire both 2007 Cy Young winners within a year (and not because they're reclamation projects expected to miss the year recovering from TJ)? That there's even a 5% chance of this happening makes it so much more fun to be a Brewerfan nowadays. That said, I can't see bidding not being extremely competitive unless the teams on his list have irrationally tepid interest and the only other team he wants to go to is Milwaukee. Though it'd be sweet enough to be worth losing a few more solid minor leaguers, I just don't want to see us completely clear out what has been our lifeblood to make it happen.
  18. He's still young, but I'd only have interest in trying to catch lightning in a bottle if he were released and we signed him to a minor league deal to see if he can bounce back. He hasn't been acceptable for 2 years.
  19. I don't know if we have the existing talent to take on big injury risks in the bullpen unless we also acquire a solid workhorse or the price is so appealing that you have to take a chance.
  20. Loney will arguably be better long term than Prince in most categories except power I can't see anything that would indicate Loney will be superior to Prince offensively. In the last 2 years, Loney's OPS numbers have been .919 (keep in mind it was .727 in 58 games at AAA) and .772. Fielder is at 1.013 and .879. Loney put up mediocre minor league numbers except for rookie ball and a very nice 2006 season. Prince's "worst year" by comparison was an .829 OPS in 2004, happening in the same league and age as Loney's .638. Prince may have fallen short of our expectations this year, but Loney reverted to flat-out pedestrian numbers. The only real argument for Loney is that he's not a whale and his body will outlast Prince.'s . plus he is a left-handed bat. So is Prince.
  21. In order to give up/receive compensation, the player needs to be tendered an offer of at least 80% of their previous year's salary, correct? I'm pretty sure you simply must offer him arbitration and have him decline - no exact money figure needs to be offered because the arbitration process never begins.
  22. We could have used Carlos Lee's RBI production last year. Except we had one of our 2 franchise players and the reigning rookie of the year playing that position for a small fraction of what Lee made. Our other corner OF position was manned by a much younger guy who's way cheaper than Lee but was offensively identical to him in 2007.
  23. It's certainly nice to fill up for $10-15 dollars less each time, but the big one I think in terms of stimulus Because I have to commute a ridiculous distance to work every day, relative to July prices, I'm functionally getting a $2,500 raise because of decreased fuel costs. That's about 3X the rosiest of campaign tax cut promises.
