  1. "Innings eater" may not be the best label. However, Suppan is a very durable pitcher who makes 30 starts a year, so "dependable" or "reliable" when referring to his health would technically be more accurate. So he still has the durability of an innings eater, but he gets pulled because he's not a great pitcher and gets into trouble too often. To be a true innings eater, you'd need to either be an above average pitcher or be average on a team with a crap bullpen who's out of the race. Suppan would have looked more like an innings eater on the 2002 Brewers.
  2. Yeah, that is surprising when you think of it. Having lived outside of WI, I've met a lot of people who find out where I'm from and said "yeah, I went there once. You guys drink a lot and get a little stupid about the Packers. I tried cheese curds, and they were awesome".
  3. Most places at least will allow you to obtain your own part. Call around to Pep Boys, Auto Zone, and O'reilly.
  4. A quick google check returned results that this part ran somewhere between a little over $200 to $300.
  5. How many post into this thread do you think it took before Hauser wished that he had never started this thread? He still isn't. Dude has made a couple hundred inaccurate posts about Jenks. It's pointed out, and he does it again, so it's obviously not deterring him. To be fair to Hauser, though, if you took out all of his negative posts about Jenkins, he wouldn't have any hollow, negative posts about Jenkins.
  6. You typically can't tell the difference with unrated movies. Maybe an extra boob flash or two more F-words. I didn't see the theater version of Pathfinder, but I watched the unrated DVD and thought it was lame.
  7. I don't think I'd give Graffy any more than $500K next year,as the injury he's coming off of won't have him ready in time for the season, so he'll either miss a bunch of time getting ready or he'll be rusty and possibly awful. If we can't get him really cheaply, we may as well go in another direction.
  8. Not to excuse Little in any way (I agree he should have been suspended for way longer), but he committed a single awful act (and another DUI which should have resulted in another lengthy suspension) as opposed to organizing a series of awful acts. Vick's actions show a lot more planning and intent than Little's. Little is more along the lines of "scum bag with no regard for anyone but himself" rather than "scumbag who committed a series of malicious and cruel acts". Plus, our culture as a whole does not punish people as severely when it could be construed as a mental deficit or disease as they would when it was just a horrible thing to do (I'm placing no value statement here - just the way our society seems to work).
  9. I'm still a believer in Hall, but yeah, it's annoying and a bit embarrassing when a guy who's having a down year Cadillacs it. Braun or Fielder can get away with a bit of that because it's fine to be confident when your numbers support that confidence. When there's a disconnect between attitude and performance is when you get worried about how hard the guy is working to fix what's messed up, or if he may be too arrogant to admit it's a problem and not just bad luck.
  10. Going around a car that has stopped and is waiting to make a left hand turn is considered illegal? I got into an accident when I signaled a left turn on accident and quickly switched it to right before turning. In the meantime, a car was going around me to the right. The cop said that as long as he didn't have to go off the road to get around me, he was legal.
  11. Yeah, oblivious groups when you're on foot are as bad as snails when you're driving. I hate the groups of tubby people who line up across the aisle and barely waddle along while everyone behind them is just stuck there. This most often happens in Wal Mart (big surprise). Of course, those of us under 350lbs can compensate for our lack of girth by adding a cart and walking really slow - preferably with whoever is with you walking beside the cart so nobody can get by. Then, you suddenly stop to look at an endcap display with absolutely no awareness of all the people you're forcing to stop. I've noticed a striking lack of store etiquette since moving to Minnesota. There seem to be a lot of people here who are really into their "right" to do something - like make cars stop and wait forever at crosswalks, but it's weird that this would stick out to someone who moved from Texas. I've heard in conversation or overheard many times things that start with "well, they have to let you...it's the law". It's like everyone in the Twin Cities is an amateur lawyer who's into flexing their rights, even when it makes no sense to do so. We had someone at my work go off about OSHA compliance (our work is essentially an office with near-zero danger), and bring in printouts of OSHA rules. Nevermind we're way too small to be governed by OSHA, but why would anyone do this other than to pretend to be an expert? I do offer the caveat that the majority of people I've met here work in a certain field, so there may be something about that which engenders this stupidity.
  12. Nixon is(was) a pretty solid hitter - I'd love to get that out of Gross, but I don't think it's a great comparison. Though Nixon has big R/L splits, they aren't as big as Gabe's. Plus Nixon has the ability to hit for decent average, hitting over .300 twice. Gabe may be able to put up seasons similar to Nixon in terms of OPS, but I think the makeup will be different.
  13. People who walk incredibly slow when they're in the way of traffic, either at an intersection or in a parking lot. Yeah, you have the right of way, but you don't need to be such a lazy slob - pick it up to a 4mph pace instead of taking 30 seconds to walk 25 feet across that intersection. Yesterday, I was seriously stuck at the crosswalk in front of target for over 3 minutes because people took forever to cross and by the time they were halfway, there was another person walking 3ft/hr.
  14. The first year I collected cards seriously was 1987, and they were 40 cents. Whats really crazy is that when I searched for that price, I found that today you can get a box of 36 packs, 20 years later, for $14.95.
  15. This may be a good place for me to pimp for Blockbuster total access. Seriously, it's wicked awesomeness wrapped in an insane bargain. I bought a 42" plasma a few months back and had to take it for a few spins around the block with basically every major release this summer that wasn't an outright chick flick. I honestly watch at least 20 movies a month for a total of $17.99. I'd recommend (in totally random order) Hollywoodland Children of Men Who Killed the Electric Car? Let's go to Prison Zodiac Premonition 300 Vacancy Perfume The Contract Host Darwin Awards The Number 23 Hot Fuzz Apocalypto Aqua Teen Hunger Force The Illusionist I'd advise against Smokin Aces Wild Hogs Pathfinder Ghost Rider Absolutely never watch even if threatened with death Gray Matters
  16. Sony Walkmans with 3band EQ and auto-reverse Parks and Rec neighborhood playgrounds being the cool place to be 50-cent packs of cards Having a rat tail Thinking my XJ-900 high tops were sweet Back to the future skateboards with removable scooter attachments School Talent Shows Zubaz Being told we were drinking animal blood when we were awarded a new Cub Scout badge Pogo Ball Shooting stuff with a wrist rocket Quantum Leap He-Man and Gi Joe Sledding hills and other dangerous equipment on playgrounds Lack of fear-mongering news channels to scare our parents into hiding us in the attic The WWF still trying to pretend everything was real Being able to watch WWF and Boxing matches without spending $59.99 on PPV Dual Cassette Boom Boxes with high-speed dubbing Pizza Hut Book Club
  17. I tested out of the required college math courses, to be clear. You couldn't test out of anything beyond that, though I probably wouldn't have anyway.
  18. Wow, this is stupid. I'm with Brian - tear it down and rebuild. This team is weak in many areas and not about to retake this division by re-signing old players who've been crummy aside from an upswing in 2005 and huge 2006. You should never count on a player replicating a season they had when they were too old to perform that well. If Dye isn't on illegal performance enhancers, he's going to continue to fall apart as he approaches 35.
  19. The reason it's OK with Gross while people are disappointed with Weeks is that Gross is a backup OF who was acquired as a throw-in in a trade while Weeks has always been touted as a future all star player who was taken #2 overall and paid a big bonus. Backups are held to a backup's standard.
  20. Maybin has done very well, but I see no indication in his numbers that he's destined to be a superstar.
  21. It doesn't even matter if there's damage, gas producers will use this as a reason to raise prices.
  22. I know a guy who had "a night of romance" with a girl he met on Craig's List, so it's way more than Ebay.
  23. I feel you man. When I was on the hunt, I applied to all kinds of organizations in my field. Some of them only had entry/bachelor's-level positions open, but I sent a resume because I figured it's at least good to get in contact with them incase something appropriate opens up. Many of them didn't even reply to my emails. It was really hard to understand why a company would not reply to someone who's at the board certified level because there are a total of 44 of us between Wisconsin and Minnesota, so it's not like one of us would send in a resume every day. All I can think of is that they may have thought I'd ask for too much money.
  24. I really don't get why you'd want to blow out a young guy's arm to take a shot now. If you wanted to be reckless, it'd be much smarter to trade too many of your lesser prospects for a bullpen guy (e.g. trading Inman et al for Linebrink to save yourself from ruining Yo).
  25. The Wii version of 07 was awesome after you learned how to play, particularly kicking, which I have mastered.
