  1. This guy is psycho, basically crying his lights out after the Britney Spears' fiasco. Wow. SHE'S going through a hard time and has problems?
  2. I'd bet the relative frequency of "breeding behavior" is far higher in the offseason than during the season. Guys can spend more time with their wives and can relax and take vacations and whatnot, which boosts the libido a bit more than constant stress and scrutiny. Thus, it'd be more likely that the child is born during the season, unless it's conceived at the very end of the offseason.
  3. Heineken, while not my favorite beer, it way better out of a keg, IMO. Some beers seem to suffer more "skunkiness" from being in green or clear bottles, and Heineken is one of them.
  4. Ted Haggard It was creepy the way his little rant on the movie pretty much foreshadowed this. It's like he considered himself untouchable and flaunted his power.

  6. I'm not an expert on this by any means. However, can there be any tests done for HGH by doing blood tests? There technically is a test, but it's not practical at all. Major League Baseball doesn't test for HGH. The International Olympic Committee brags it has had an HGH test since before the 2004 Olympics, but that is semantics. Yes, there is a blood test for HGH. But because antibodies necessary for the process are in such short supply, virtually no HGH testing is conducted. In addition, the test only detects HGH right after injection so it's impractical for in-competition testing. As a result, there never has been an HGH positive. There have been just a couple hundred HGH tests, according to experts such as Christiane Ayotte, head of the Montreal Olympic-testing lab, and Gary Wadler, a physician and author who has advised the World Anti-Doping Agency.
  7. The instrumentals from "My Favorite Game" by The Cardigans was stuck in my head for like a week. I have no idea how it go there, as I don't remember hearing it recently, and it took forever for me to even figure out what song it was.
  8. I was getting ready for an Abnormal Psych test. My ex called home to tell me, and I quick flipped on the TV to see what happened. I figured my skipping the test wasn't gonna un-do anything, so I went, only to find out the test was canceled. That night I delivered Chinese food and it was surreal. Roads were empty except for people trying to get gas. Everyone wanted to stay glued to their TV, so we were extremely busy that night, with customers who looked expressionless.
  9. Let the debate begin - er, continue.... From that thread: Tulo has had a gold glove year at shortstop, leads qualified rookies in runs created and almost all of the other sabremetric offensive stats. (ESPN site) What sabermetric stats is he talking about. Higher walk rate? BR has Braun's RC at 88 and Tulowitzki at 85. Park adjusted OPS+ is 159 for Braun, 105 for Tulowitzki. Oh, I went to espn.com before posting and now I see, he included only "qualified" rookies, which excludes Braun, Pence, Loney, and Hamilton - all of whom have a higher OPS. You can't even begin to make an argument for Tulowitzki based on offensive performance, it's just untenable, especially when you look at Tulowitzki hitting like a bum outside of Coors (.672 OPS - worse than the road OPS of Craig Counsell).
  10. I don't, and never will, buy the "low testosterone" argument. Show me data that this diagnosis is as common in accountants as baseball players and maybe I'll come around. Yep, these guys are "Doctors", just like people who promote useless fad diet pills on late night infomercials. Every quack who ever had his license revoked, or who was repeated sued successfully for malpractice was a "doctor" at one point. When you have such a big number of health practitioners, it's inevitable that quacks and charlatans looking to get rich will slip through the cracks.
  11. I wouldn't have a problem with it. Stupid teams can still lowball guys and not sign them, make garbage signability picks (see 90's Brewers), or foolishly trade them away as soon as they're able. Would it have made that much of a difference if we had traded our 3rd rounder away instead of Wil Inman?
  12. Koskie, though only still a Brewer on paper, is always mentioned as being a hockey player. Mark Rogers was also a very good hockey prospect. Podsednik's home town (West) is not very far from Dallas, so I'd bet most of his family lives there.
  13. I disagree 100%. Prince is going to be the guy that puts and keeps Milwaukee on the baseball map. Mark and the ownership group know this. At this point, you let the money go with guys like Bill Hall and Rickie Weeks. I see Prince in the Brewer Blue for some time to come. Maybe if he gets another agent or has a magic reconciliation with Cecil. Otherwise, Boras clients do not sign extensions and sell out arby years. Thus, they always go to free agency.

  15. Not to make assumptions about Mr. Sarfate in particular, but if what we see on a message board is a bit much, who knows what is going on at home. Was he ever a problem, though? I'm not on the minor league forum enough, so I may have missed a major episode, but I don't remember him being like Hendrickson's dad.
  16. Isn't that a union gig? If so, the very first thing I'd do is contact a union rep.
  17. I'll plug Total Access again Rydogg. You have a free trial with Netflix and haven't been thrilled, so I'd cancel and try Blockbuster's free trial. At the end you can decide which was better. People prefer Netflix when they're into incredibly obscure movies, but I've found a ton of stuff you'd never find in a video store. Come to think of it, I can't remember a movie I wanted that Blockbuster didn't have, even a bunch of Japanese movies my girlfriend wanted that weren't popular in America.
  18. I hear ya, Gormans Sideburns. I have a 3 year old son so I typically have a song by the Wiggles or the Doodlebops stuck in my head. "Toot toot chugga chugga big red car" UGGGHHHH!!!!!! I work with kids with autism - who have a legendary ability to perseverate on certain songs and 1 minute segments from TV shows. I've literally watched every Wiggles video at least twice per week, and have seen the intro from Jay Jay the Jet Plane and Veggie Tales approximately 50 times per week. We have one kid who will sing "hot potato, hot potato, cold spaghetti cold spaghetti" for his entire session some days. The evil lurking of these songs inside my head is possibly the biggest drawback of my job. Which leads me to the song stuck in my head: the "You're Invited" theme song from Mary Kate and Ashley videos.
  19. So does this mean that if he is traded to another team, he is not going to be a free agent? Seems kind of odd, but I can't explain why a team would be interested in trading for him is he is going to be a free agent. I believe nothing changes. You have to think about what they'd be giving up for him - probably next to zero considering his DFA status. If it's a team with a garbage bullpen, they could pay a small price for him with the plan to audition him for the rest of the season and during spring training. If he sticks, he sticks. If not, you gave up a guy who you'd also cut eventually.
  20. It really sucks that the season ends with San Diego, who will almost certainly still be in a race at the time. I wish AZ and LAD would totally collapse and SD clinches before the series and lets the big guns rest.
  21. From today's Brewers.com article. Yost joked a few days before that, during the Brewers' series at Wrigley Field, that there should be a couch in every Major League dugout, because it seems people are better at managing when they are sitting on one. But to be fair, the at-home managing has hit a new level this season partly because the '07 Brewers have a nasty habit of blowing hearty leads. They have led by three or more runs only to lose a game 16 times this season, tops in the Major Leagues. I HATE when this stupid argument is made. "What, you think you can do better?" That has nothing to do with it, as someone doesn't need to be better than you at your job for you to be doing poorly. I'm (obviously) not a better baseball player than Chris Barnwell, but that doesn't mean I can't say he had no business in the major leagues.
  22. I've only visited both places, but I really didn't like LA while I thought San Diego was awesome. LA was just a little too much, and a little too polluted for me.
  23. As for runners on 2 & 3rd with one out giving you a better chance for one run...sure in a vacuum. It's definitely a situational thing. Like ennder points out, you're gonna score more on average with 1st and 2nd with no outs, but what would be "better" depends on the situation. If you're tied in the ninth and have a good runner on third with great bunters or slap hitters coming up, you'd take that runner on 3rd, while you'd rather have 1st and 2nd with no out when you have Braun and Fielder coming up down by 2+ runs.
  24. Clemens all the way, and any other AL pitcher who chucks balls at guys and can hide behind the stupid DH rule, or relievers who never have to bat and risk getting hit. I otherwise generally think intentionally hitting guys is dumb, because it's usually just stupid retribution for their pitcher hitting your guy, so you arbitrarily pick someone to peg. Now, if they wear a ton of body armor and lean over the plate. then plunk 'em.
  25. "First, it's a shock," King said on a conference call with Washington reporters. "You see the whole trade deadline come and go and you are thinking, 'OK, finish with this team.' You want to finish with respect -- for yourself and the organization. But anytime you get a phone call from the general manager's secretary, it's not good. "I have a chance to go to Milwaukee. I understand they are a game and a half out, and they are trying to compete and try to get into the playoffs. That team hasn't been there since 1982. ... Sometimes things happen for a reason, and sometimes they don't." King's quote is a little weird. Is he ticked about being traded? I don't get the last sentence, as it could be seen either as "a reason" for him coming here or alluding to "a reason" the team has sucked.
