  1. I'd totally dig an Overbay type with great OBP because he's likely to be undervalued as a guy who doesn't have great power for a corner OF. But if OBP and OPS are solid, I don't care if they're made out of nothing but walks and singles.
  2. He obviously has the stick to hit at other positions, and the Mariners have needs at those positions. Thus, you wouldn't get a blocked player bargain, and would have to pay the going rate for a catcher with great upside.
  3. Won't happen. There's still not going to be a team that values him enough to make it worth out while. What'll we get - a top-flight rental? Someone who'll produce like Braun but in his first arby year?
  4. If you live in MN do you get both as well? Anybody in the cities have experience with Dish and get the Brewers feed without buying an upgraded package, or do only WI folks get so lucky?
  5. I'd second the idea of getting an online degree from an actual college. If I saw an application on my desk from an online only school, I'd probably "file" it, to be honest.
  6. Rent a u-haul trailer instead of a truck and hitch it up to the van - much cheaper.
  7. I'd guess it'd all depend on what Bonds does. If he hits 754 maybe, if he gets to 755 by then, it's probably a lock.
  8. This is as obscure as it gets...when I was a pizza guy in Eau Claire, I delivered a pizza to the EC airport where Dick Cheney was doing a speech before the 2000 election. I took it to this secure area where - no joke - FBI/Secret Service types in black suits opened it up and inspected the pizza before it could enter the building. I'd like to think I've played a part in the heart problems of a world leader.
  9. I'm really angry about this move. I want the team we're competing with to play Izturis as much as possible. Not only do the Cubs gain addition by subtraction, but they'll now have an easier time winning games against Pitt if he plays.
  10. I think the projected ceiling for Parra has always been a top of the rotation (1 or 2) pitcher. Of course, ceilings typically aren't fully realized.
  11. A 4th OF and a promising but oft-injured pitching prospect would be a great price in my eyes. I'd do the deal in a second, trade the more valuable of Vargas and Bush, and send the other to the pen.
  12. I find it odd that all three had Xanax in their systems. It essentially works like alcohol and calms you. If he still had coherent thought at all, it's not unexpected that he'd lower the inhibitions and take the edge off everyone involved before he did it.
  13. Or little luckier. I'm guessing part luck and such incredible raw ability that stuff was swept under the rug when and if it arose.
  14. Benoit's body contained 10 times the normal level of testosterone, as well as amounts of the anti-anxiety drug Xanax and the painkiller hydrocodone, authorities said. The testosterone, a synthetic version of the primary male sex hormone, is considered an anabolic steroid. The state's top medical examiner said it appeared to have been injected shortly before Benoit died.
  15. Is it Charter or FSN? When in doubt, blame Charter - you'll be correct 99.6% of the time.
  16. Good lord, it's a Tuesday night and chat is full? Just wait until the playoff stretch.
  17. I'd give up Ginter and Franklin (without CV implications) for him.
  18. It's hard to be cocky when you have an OPS over 1 a couple years before you're supposed to hit your prime. Nice gigantic image sigs kids.
  19. Often, you get grants from institutions such as NIMH and such to conduct psychological research. Some studies provide pretty interesting data regarding compulsion, addiction, and cultural contingencies for very cheap prices. You have students working on practica and professors trying to get published or tenured. When you consider the student researchers working on this, it's often cheaper to give them valuable research experience than it is to put them in a lecture hall to learn about some GE topic they have no interest in. My research, for example, cost a whopping $316 to complete and addressed what many in our field consider a very important empirical issue - namely, efficient methods of training reading performance. If public institutions can train better readers in less time, that saves the government lots of money. Similarly, studies that cost a couple grand sometimes impact the ways states deal with societal issues they currently pump huge money into with little benefit.
  20. I lost about 45 pounds in the process of about 4 months, and over the last month and a half, put back on about 15 pounds. That's why diets that are too restrictive are bound to fail. You need to have strict rules but not a strict diet per se. You can say "I absolutely, without fail, will work out for 20 min every X, Y, and Z day of the week". Or "I will only drink diet soda and only liquor with diet soda", "I will never add sugar to anything - only low-cal sweetener", "I will only put the lowest-calorie dressing on my salad", etc. When a diet is too tough, you begin to cheat a few times, and then the momentum builds and you're fat again before you know it.
  21. If you really wanted to toss the money aside and spite Bonds, you'd sell the ball to the highest bidder and then donate the money to an anti-steroid education program.
  22. Do I need a Y chromosome to get it? A lobotomy will work just fine.
  23. I don't get why he doesn't just use Super Genius Proxy Magic 3000 and post here instead of repeating threads there.
  24. He was "PrinceBecomesKing". I figured it was him, but thought maybe it was an incredible blast from the past.
  25. What was that guy's name here?
