  1. Turang and Chourio continuing their Molitor/Yount like '82 series right here!
  2. I love Chenal. The only problem is the Chiefs are really using him a lot this year. He's playing on the Edge, he can lineup and play over the middle. He's as good of an athlete as Walker, but he's more physical. That's a lot to give up though as I think both Wicks and Doubs can be really good WRs. If I had to, I'd probably give up Doubs, but not Doubs and a 4th, I'm not sure why they gave up on Carr...I think he ends up with the Jets, but he has been remarkably consistent and healthy. I think we have to get a kicker unless Narveson just turns it around or they figure something out...but I don't know how common trading kickers is in the regular season. I remember a few before the season, but someone like Nick Folk would be an obvious target. A 40-year-old kicker on a team that's not competitive? No thoughts on Lawrence? Too far fetched?
  3. *Move this to the Packers 2024 Season Thread if you think it's more appropriate there.
  4. I didn't know if I should put this just in the Packers 2024 thread or make a new one. It'll heat up as the deadline comes. Hopefully not out of need due to injury, but that always plays some role. Kicker has been mentioned...OBVIOUSLY. But I just saw another really interesting one. Dexter Lawrence trade rumors. The Giants MAY be open to trading him(nothing from any legitimate source yet, so just speculation). I don't think this team has any other real needs as of now. Getting a kicker should be the priority. I'm not going to talk about Davante Adams or just any big name. Maybe Devin Lloyd is worth discussing. You'd have to assume the Jags are going to punt on the season if they lose another game and start 0-5 but Devin Lloyd may be a perfect fit and among the players the Jags look to move. He slides in as the MLB, Quay and Cooper on either side. Also creates a lot more mixing and matching similar to the Chiefs when they play with Chenal, Bolton and Tranquill. Chenal is listed as a starter, but they move him around, edge rusher or they have him rush up the middle. That could be Cooper as they ease him in. But IF Dexter Lawrence is traded this year(and I'm very skeptical a team would trade him) he'd likely be the best player to be traded since maybe Adams or Rodgers(I can't think of another player of that caliber in recent years and both were traded under unique circumstances). The contract is already incredibly cheap for the best IDL in the NFL, and really a guy who as a 3-4 NT was unprecedented as far as I can recall as a pass rusher. He's basically a combo of Kenny Clark at his best and what we've seen of Wyatt this year. Cons -I can't really think of any other than we gave Clark more than this, but that's a sunk cost. Lawrence is just better and it'd take a LOT of pressure off Clark. He hasn't played in a 4-3...I don't believe Only so much money to go around...but again, players of THIS caliber are rare. Zero need for the Giants to trade him and a team like KC may be inclined to give up 2 1sts+ as he's that good of a player. Pros As I said, he's the best all-around IDL. Hasn't played in a 3-4, but he's gotten a TON of pressures as a 0 Tech, so as a 3 technique in one gap, he'd be up there with Donald and JJ Watt in terms of dominant DL the last decade. From PFF when they ranked him the 11t best player overall in the NFL; Our DL could be overwhelming. A guy like him who commands constant double teams, Wyatt, Clark, Gary, LVN, Enagbare, Brooks, he'd make life that much easier for the rest. Put Gary/Lawrence/Clark/LVN out there with Quay/Cooper and then Jaire/Nixon/Stokes/Bullard/McKinney while rotating in Slaton, Wyatt(who probably plays 50% when he's healthy), Brooks and then Smith, Enagbare and I'd like to see more Wooden, but Hafley apparently doesn't see his value in this system thus far. He's SO dominant vs the run AND vs the pass, you're not having to mix and match. You could trade a guy like Slaton. You'd likely be looking at moving on from Kenny Clark unless his play REALLY picks up in the next year(~17M dead cap after 2025 vs 31M cap hit after next off-season). His contract FOR THE PACKERS would effectively be 4 years and ~56M. We'd likely find ourselves in the situation the Cardinals did with D-Hop where he'd want an extension and that's something we could accommodate in a year or two. Add two years for 60M or something along those lines. But in the meantime, he'd be a cheap cap hit for a team that has a lot of cap space. You're starting out with at least a 1st+ a day 2 pick, probably 2 1st rd picks+assets. But this would be the best DL the Packers have had since Reggie White...and he may be as good as Reggie for the Packers. Not that he'd have that type of impact to the franchise, but it'd be significant. It's wildly unrealistic, but...it's being thrown around and it's the first legitimate player I've seen that I thought would make sense for the Packers both in terms of the type of money he would require and the impact... I don't expect this to go anywhere and I think the Giants would be foolish to trade him. But if you can add draft assets....it's worth considering. A final Con, albeit one I really hope the Packers don't put too much weight on, but...you're hosting the draft. You don't want to go into this class with 4 picks. You've already traded a 7th for Willis(which was clearly worth it). Giving up your first would hurt...but you're lucky if you get one 1st rd pick of his caliber every decade, so it'd likely be worth it. An additional note, if we're talking about the Giants, Evan Neal is someone I'd definitely consider trading for. Just worth a flier. I think he's got talent and throwing him in at RG, where he's been playing, could be an upgrade. Or even have him work at OT, namely RT. But that's a bit of an afterthought.
  5. Yup! If they won 82 games, we'd say, "this was a rebuilding year, lots of young talent, almost everyone back...good season." But they're 12 wins away!
  6. Yeah, I agree they should all be available. I'm saying who I think would be the best players. Start with Meyers, then Hall, then maybe back to Megill, then Ashby, Koenig and if you have to extend Williams, then do it. But I'd be reticent to bring Ross, Payamps, Mears into the game.
  7. I'd just run it back with Hoskins. He had a mediocre year, but a year removed from the ACL, I think he'll get back to where he was. He has an ~850 OPS for his career, .242/.353/.492 I think you're likely to get similar production out of all of them as a hitter and Hoskins is poor fielder, but he's a poor fielder at 1B. He wasn't bad enough to make too much of an effort to swap them out. Without Betts, Ohtani, Freeman in the lineup, is he likely to be substantially better than Hoskins or match his career year(he had a better line in 2020, but 60 games). I don't think we need to do more re-tooling than 2B/3B, the BPA to replace Adames and take over at 3B/2B. Honestly, we might be facing him in this round of the playoffs.
  8. LOL...so why ask for thoughts?
  9. Not feeling super confident about Colin Rea right now in a short stint out of the pen...and I think we're fresh enough we don't have to. But I do feel alright about Hall, so...others may disagree.
  10. I trust Ashby just fine to start an inning, not with men on. Hall is likely ready to go a few innings after Myers. If we get 3-4 out of Tobias, play it by ear, but maybe 2 out of Hall depending on the situation. Then...just whoever. Koenig could go again, Megill, Williams. I think Mears will be a big part of this team next year, but I don't trust him right now. Whatever it takes.
  11. No, I think it's the Phillies. We're the highest seed. I thought we could only play the Phils in the Division Rd?
  12. Probably...I was just thinking Turang was having a historic start to the playoffs and maybe it's worth getting him atop the lineup setting the table for Jackson and company.
  13. I forgot about Sal! LOL...but I think it's a given Perkins is in there and...you're not losing any defense and Mitchell doesn't play vs lefties, but he has hit them better. I'd just make Quintana throw a lot of pitches. We turn the table on Quintana tomorrow.
  14. What's the lineup look like tomorrow? Do we hit Turang near the top of the lineup? Turang-2B Chourio-LF Contreras-C Adames-SS Mitchell-RF Sanchez-DH Hoskins-1B Ortiz-3B Perkins-CF I don't know, Chourio will probably hit leadoff vs the lefty and Perkins back in there hitting 2nd, but 5 for 8, 2-2 tonight. 3 doubles in the series. And Quintana is a guy who likes to pick around the edges... Who are we moving up, down, whatever?
  15. Like the D-Backs? I feel like we hit about 8 balls with a 100MPH Exit Velo...and the DBacks had about 8 hits balls drop in or eek through the IF. Even the Mets seem to have had several seeing-eye singles.
  16. I just didn't think he was going to hit a HR. I was confident Chourio could. Mitchell swings and misses and he just hadn't been great there in big spots...I wasn't predicting a HR in that spot from him.
  17. Wow...I thought IF we could get through the 8th without giving up a run(which I didn't think we'd do with the leadoff walk) Chourio could tie it up. I would NOT have said Mitchell would give us the game-winning 2R shot!
  18. No, he's been very good vs the run. He's struggled to get out of his own lane vs. running quarterbacks and they've picked up a lot of yards...A wide rush for example of jumping inside and someone like Fields gets outside. That's what they said 2 weeks in they'd been asking the DEs to work on. Doesn't explain the lack of pressures the last two weeks though. But he's been great at getting pressures and really good vs the run. I don't really know how well he's played the run this year aside from a couple plays he's looked good, but very little pass rush. His job vs both the run and the pass should be easier in a 4-3. Instead of being responsible for two gaps, he's responsible for one. I think he'll be fine, but he's not been the player we need thus far in '24.
  19. The Lions have a ton of cap space this year and next. I don't know if they'll be willing to do it or if Adams will want to go there, but I think they could get it done. The Vikings would have to restructure, so it just wouldn't make sense.
  20. Yeah...Gary wasn't always getting sacks, but he was getting pressures and he was stout vs the run. He's been very average this year(at best). I'd be fine with this production from Enagbare, not Gary. Clark has been bad as well. Curious why Wooden hasn't played, though I assume he'll be active this week. Wyatt has been so important, they'll need guys to step up.
  21. Eh, if you're going to jump Boeve to the front of the line...out of necessity, why not just throw Black out there? At least early on, let Boeve get some PT in AAA. But that's a big jump. Or...perhaps you go back to Frelick. It was a bit weird how insistent Murphy was that we'd be surprised by how much Frelick would play in the IF, but them Mitchell gets hurt immediately, comes back, Yelich gets hurt. So I think they were serious about Frelick playing some IF. Add in the other internal options or external options who are cheap and I think that's the most likely outcome. Maybe someone like Jose Iglesias. He is coming off a 3 WAR season, so...probably unlikely, but he could play 2B or 3B. I've seen the arguments that it has to be a 3B because Ortiz is the future SS. I've stated why I don't agree it has to be, the argument being Ortiz has the stronger arm based on Baseball Savant, but go around and look at guys who've plays the left side and their velocity on throws vs when they play 2B. 2B the only time you're really putting everything on it is when you're fielding a ball on a Double Play or behind the bag. You never get to field a bullet behind the bag and step into it. Point is, I think Turang OR Ortiz would be great SS. So either position... I think if you trade Williams, you'll get prospects. -I don't think a Bitonti is going anywhere. There's a group that I think only gets traded for a star and he's at the bottom of that list(most of the top 10, Boeve/Black are more likely than Bitonti, Made, Letson, Yophery or guys like that). -I don't think you'll fit Goldy into the payroll even with Hoskins. He's the type who, if he's going to become a part-time player or rotate between 1B/DH and then maybe sitting, he'll be very selective. Skeptical Milwaukee would be on the list. Ideally, 1 year Moncada 10M with TO for 20M with 3M buyout? If there was a time to push that payroll up a bit, it'd be next year. It's on the Brewers to go out and give the Brewers a reason to with a good run here...hopefully generate a few million in additional revenue and give the owners a reason to believe they're one player away from...repeating perhaps?
  22. This was the type of look I was...REALLY thinking(and remain hopeful) we'll see from Hafley. The Packers with Jaire and Valentine are clearly more talented on that side of the ball. But imagine putting Nixon, Quay, and Edggerin Cooper up on the LOS with Gary, Clark, Wyatt, and LVN? I am pretty happy with the style of defense we're playing, it's better than Barry's...but I'd like to crank that up a notch and hopefully Edge Cooper on 3rd down with Quay will allow us to do this more. He did dial up some really nice pressures. Nixon and Quay had easy sacks. That's just good scheming, but...a little more wouldn't make me upset!
  23. No, I'm just going off what people are throwing out. When someone said 4th and 15, I was thinking you'd have to take the ball on your own...~20 or so to try it, otherwise, it's just too likely to be converted. I'd guess you'd convert 1/5 of them. But I don't know of any proposal, just picking up from what other people are throwing out. I wouldn't have it at the 50 though as I don't think that's punitive enough. To give the losing team that much bigger of a chance, I think it has to be back from your own 20. Yeah, I'm talking about the play where Wicks was one on one and they bring...I believe it was Harrison Smith on a blitz. I'm fine giving your guy a play on the ball there. Especially with no Safety help. If it's 1st down, I might prefer a back-shoulder, but I don't think that decision is an inherently bad one, and particularly not down...whatever it was, 21 at that point(or was it 28-14?). In any event, I haven't lost any confidence in Love or this team. I don't think they've had a great start...but I think they'll be fine. I'd put money on them beating the Rams next week. But, now you've lost to two teams you're going to be battling for position for in the NFC and more importantly a division game. In the larger picture though, Minnesota is a scary team. If they keep Florres(not sure if he'll get another HC'ing job with his lawsuit, but I'd definitely give him one if I was a team with a good QB) with Kevin O'Connell, they've got a great staff and that GM has really done a great job in a relatively short period of time. The North is turning into a very good division with the Lions, Vikings and then the Bears will really have trouble screwing this up and not at least becoming a competent organization.
  24. Watson's was definitely a bad decision. Watson needs to be driving on that ball. The ball off his back foot in the endzone, again, the one I think of is the throw to Wicks. Wicks HAS to be aware there. That was either 3rd and long or 4th and long, I don't recall, but he knows there's a free runner coming up and you're just giving your guy a 50/50 ball and Wicks never saw it. So Watson was a poor decision, the pick to Wicks not bad IMO. The pick where it went off Kraft's hands and then hit Reed(IIRC, maybe Doubs) in the chest, looked like a poor route by one or the other(I'd guess Kraft's depth was off). Again, I'm not planting my Flag on this hill... that was just my impression overall. I obviously don't think his decision making was perfect, but there were so many balls that he needed to put on guys and he didn't put enough on them. Also, again, the drops. The whole, "who's our #1," seems to be definitively answered by Reed at this point. Good news(thus far) is it SOUNDS like Both Wyatt and Watson suffered sprained ankles. Wyatt frankly is the bigger concern for me. He's our best pass rusher as of now.
