  1. LOL...they weren't drafted to start. Every QB you draft, you're drafting them HOPING they'll become a starter. So that's not at all a false equivalency, using Justin Fields and Russell Wilson, two QBs that fell into the Steelers laps because they didn't have ONE good one is a false equivalency. Matt Flynn was a 7th rd pick, not a 2nd.
  2. No...it's still early in his 2nd season, but...they don't look better. It kinda feels like this program turned with Mertz. I just thought it'd be for the better and...it has not been. I'm not blaming one kid, but...that's kinda when there was more excitement. They had Taylor, a really good run game, you thought a great QB would elevate them as Wilson nearly did and it's just been really mediocre since then.
  3. He said we "grossly neglect our Backup QB spot." Our backup QB has Love for years, then Love took over and we drafted a guy in the 5th rd who looked REALLY good in camp as a rookie. We added a QB this past draft, then when they didn't have a good camp, we went out and traded for a guy who'd just been a 3rd rd pick. Why am I even bringing up where Jimmy G was drafted? Gee...could it be to illustrate the balance a team needs with a YOUNG QB(Jimmy G was brought in-in a Love-type situation) and how much draft capital it makes sense to invest with a 25-year-old QB vs a 38-year-old QB? That didn't make sense to you that the draft capital was relevant. "The Packers have never done anything like that." No...they just draft and have 3 straight franchise QBs and THAT provides an impetus for you to be angry... I don't know dude, you've already given up on the season anyway...after ONE loss vs Philly, so...sure, they neglected the backup QB. They made no effort there...
  4. Right. And if there isn't an AWFUL call on Jaire on 3rd down, the Packers are off the field with...I don't know, 6 minutes left. It was a close game vs one of the most talented teams in the league week 1 in Brazil. I get game threads are negative, but that's usually in the moment. A BIG difference as the season goes on is you'll see Cooper out there more on defense...but we played a team a year removed from the SB with Barkley, Brown, Smith, an elite OL and we lost by a possession. The Love injury hurts, but yeah, I don't get the negativity either.
  5. No, we don't know #2 is true. Jimmy G was taken in the 2nd rd by the Pats and then traded and Fields/Wilson is clearly an aberration.
  6. Sure. That is why I didn't compare the IMPACT of losing both, I pointed out that Aaron Jones TWICE last year suffered the same injury at RB, a position where an MCL is much more significant...and he missed 6 weeks. So it's unlikely that the same injury to a QB would "torpedo" our season.
  7. Yeah...MAYBE...if he has the same injury twice.
  8. It is kinda crazy how fatalistic we get(and how quickly). We played a REALLY good team on a bad field. Love didn't play well. We had two third-down penalties that stopped us from getting off the field(the Clark one was legit, the Jaire penalty was terrible). Just a whole bunch of slipping and sliding on open passes or Love missing guys. He didn't play great. The guy who did look pretty damn good is Cooper. I'd like to see Cooper playing more in the future in nickel. You line up McDuffie vs Cooper in man and...that's a bad matchup. I can't imagine how miserable these game threads would be if this was a Cubs forum though!
  9. It is? This is the same injury Aaron Jones...a RB had twice last year. It REALLY shouldn't be enough to "torpedo," this season.
  10. I don't know about Tannehill. I didn't watch him or...haven't paid attention to how exactly he's fallen off. Matt Ryan would make sense to me if he wanted to come back and play a little. He's played in the scheme, MLF has been his QB coach...he retired, but guys come back all the time. I suspect this will be a 2-3 week thing, maybe he misses 2 games and is just limited, but it's just guessing until we hear more.
  11. Ok...so a better source, MCL...as most expected.
  12. Yeah...it's been so hard being a Packers fan. They just can't get anything right...🙄
  13. I don't know how accurate this is...could just be guessing(as it's most people's guess). What type of sprain is going to be what matters. A sprain is just a type of tear, just matters of degrees...I believe(that's what I've always been told).
  14. They know it's NOT an ankle? I've not been watching much of anything since the game. Just an ugly, forgettable game, but I'm not sure if that's good news or bad news. I'd think you're right then, MCL. Hopefully no more than 3-4 weeks at worse. They can survive that. Wow...we really throw the towel in THAT quickly, huh? We lost a close game to the Eagles in an ugly game in Brazil. To one of the most talented teams in the NFL offensively.
  15. They know immediately if it's an ACL(with like 90% certainty). It looks to me...and I'm not a doctor, but looks like the best and most likely case would be a high ankle or MCL. The way it pops on that video is definitely disconcerting though.
  16. LOL...I don't know. It all blows my mind. I don't know how you possibly hit or lay off a 90 MPH slider. Everyone can yell, "what's he swinging at! C'mon," but it's all superhuman to me. I am amused at Cubs fans who are saying PCA is a better player. If you want to say he's better than Mitchell or...I guess Frelick, eh, he is one helluva CFer. But Chourio? Hmm...no. As for ROY, I'm less invested given the stupid rule they changed that he's not eligible for a comp pick because they invested in him and signed him, but it'd still be cool for him. This does seem like a really-really good rookie class though. So...he'll be a Yankee or Dodger one year earlier.
  17. Nobody will take the Giants money! They've been trying to pay players. I'd guess they are the team that goes after Soto the hardest this off-season other than the Mets and Yanks, but...doubt he'll sign there. The Chapman deal though, I just looked at his numbers...I don't think that's a bad deal for them. He doesn't have much of an injury history, he's been a really good, but not great player. I think Willy would be a good target there and...while I wouldn't want the Brewers to go 6/150 for either(wouldn't HATE it with Willy) the Giants can afford it. I'd guess a lot of Willy's value this off-season will be in how teams view his defense. Do they view it like I do, a little bit of just a fluky down year, more errors than normal, or do they think it's the start of a serious regression? They have real experts, I'm just looking at physical attributes which...seem to be fine. And then the other part of that, would he consider playing 3B if a team has a SS like...the Yanks.
  18. It really is. The thing that might be the most impressive is his plate discipline. I thought we were getting a free swinger, a Vlad type or...whoever. But he's gotten so much better at being selective up there. The 5 ball strikeout sucks, but...this kid is a monster. Just so thrilled with that 10-year extension.
  19. Yeah, there are obviously crime-riddled areas all over. Sao Paulo is...bad right now. Kinda interesting how they've gone up and down over the last 15 years. What happened in SF to Rickey Pearsall is awful, but SF has seen violent crime levels fall to near-all-time lows(though...theft is still a problem). Maybe it's kidnapping they're concerned about. I'd think as big of an issue as any is that...in America, there is more familiarity with the area. If you play in Chicago, you know where to stay and how to get to the game. You're not putting the team up in certain areas, and you can hire plenty of off-duty Police to work as security in addition to your own security. You'd assume Brazil would be pretty worried about looking bad on the world stage and they'd have ample security, but if a player goes out, you can only do so much to protect them. It'll likely come and go without any major incidents other than the Eagles getting their wings clipped early!
  20. How? Housing prices are rising? I need to know HOW else this is like the Housing Crisis or...what I find FAR more ridiculous, is the Dot Com Bubble(which I also hear, albeit not from you)? Inflation is under 3%. It was higher under Reagan, Ford, Carter, Nixon(when he froze Wages and Prices...which pissed everyone off). It feels like if you try hard enough, you can draw comparisons to every economy. It's Sept. The Market is going to be awful as it ALMOST always is(especially in an election year). I'm not sure what these harbingers of the next great recession are.
  21. I don't think he will be back, but I'd gladly take it. The Math in his head has to be...can he get more than 14M on the FA market and I think he can. He'll have ~25 HRs, he's not had a great year, but 14M? 4M is GTD, I'd be happy with him coming back. I agree, year 2, plus he's hit into poor luck, I'd gladly see Hoskins back. Chourio/Yellich/Contreras/Hoskins as your 2-6? I think that's up to 100 HRs right there. Ortiz, Turang, hopefully Black and Frelick, they'll be able to get on base as well or... a little better. I still don't' know what Mitchell is other than talented, but streaky. I looked up the FA rankings, they have Adames as the #20 FA or so. I think he's top 4-5 behind Soto, Burnes maybe Bregman and Cole, but we'll see. Just need that one year fill in at 2B/3B or...SS, though that's more expensive and less important with Ortiz and Turang.
  22. Yeah, they can, but you lose Kelce and that is going to really impact the protection scheme. I have no idea what to expect out of Philly though. I think if Barkley stays healthy, they could have a huge year running the ball, they still have those elite OTs. The defense isn't scary, but at least they have those DTs up front. Jordan Davis, Jevon Carter... We'll also be facing that Vic Fangio defense, but it's actually run by Fangio, so...it's not as gutless as the Barry Defense. This feels like it should be one of the best teams in the league if they can stay relatively healthy. I'm assuming you get a full season of the good version of Love. Maybe not that 10-game run Love had extrapolated out for a full season, but I can't believe it was a fluke. So just get that OL to protect him and the WR/TEs are so good. Even scarier if they actually did figure out how to prevent the soft tissue injuries for Watson(and Stokes). We'll also get a chance to see two DBs pretty much every Packers fan would have been happy with the Packers taking in Rd1 in Mitchell and DeJean, both of whom the Eagles moved up to get in front of us. Should be a really good game but a tough matchup with Hurts+Barkley vs this front.
  23. How is that? This feels like the type of move the Dodgers have been making for years so they're fresh for later in the year(not that it always works, but they do it).
  24. Yeah, that and having a team where you can just pretty much blindly trust they know exactly when it's time to tweak something or give a guy some time off. I feel like the Brewers could call me up and I could give them 2 innings and a sub-4 ERA...and my shoulder is full of metal and(and...didn't pitch when I did play baseball).
  25. That's the first thing I thought of...and then I thought, 'well, we've got AI, surely we can figure out the difference in bonus pool on the fly,' but...the real issue would be the scouts who get these numbers and who figure it out like the '23 Brewers front office, whose greatness should go down with the likes of the '27 Yankees, the '96 Bulls, the...'72 Dolphins or the '24 Penn State Wrestling team(I know I'm losing the crowd here)....nearly unprecedented in their greatness. So...that'd be the bigger issue. Figuring out down to 39 dollars or whatever the final number was, how much money will need to be spent. And I'm sure they'd have been right on that number this year, but one HS Pitcher was...apparently just too dead set on going to College.
