  1. Supposedly the Rockies are interested in him.
  2. Baseball teams don't disclose their revenues. A lot of it depends on how the accounting is done (amount of debt service, depreciation, etc).
  3. Some very interesting comments from Mr. Attanasio in there. I like his seemingly newfound philosophy of letting the talent dictate the payroll, and not setting a hard number to "shoot for" like in the past couple years. A bit disconcerting that he claims the team lost money last year and might lose money again this season. Not sure how that will sustainable long term.
  4. You finally got one? Cool.
  5. I think in the long run the Brewers might have been better off staying in the AL. Smaller division, continued rivalry with teams like the White Sox, etc. I dont' find the NL "style" of play all that more fascinating than AL ball. I also never bought the "This is an NL town," stuff Selig was putting out at the time. The Braves left Milwaukee about 30 years before the Brewers moved back to the NL. They were an AL town for much longer. It was just a way for the franchise to sell the concept to the fans. In hindsight, why didn't MLB just add both the Rays & Dbacks to the NL? Just not forward-thinking enough? I remember hearing that the Diamondbacks' owner was adamant about joining the NL for whatever reasons.
  6. Seems a bit high since Manny Ramirez only got $2 million for one year from the Rays.
  7. Agreed. If he played most of his career with even a team like the Cardinals or White Sox (good teams who have made playoffs multiple times in last few years), there wouldn't be any HOF chatter. It's only because he was a Yankee.
  8. LaRussa has a serious man crush on Edmonds.
  9. No worries, it is still in the 80s in Florida. Somehow Florida has been immune to the abnormal cold over the last month. We actually had to close the windows and turn on the A/C today.Probably that global warming stuff.
  10. Hopefully they can upconvert the classic "Two Fisted Slopper" video, though.
  11. Yeah, a little bit of a "slow" night. I think I've mentioned this in the past, but last night's Office was one of those necessary "character advancement" ones where the jokes tend to be harder to come by. Other than the part in the Chinese restaurant, I didn't really laugh too much.
  12. Well, the big difference is that Pettitte admitted it right away (granted, when he was caught), and said he was sorry. He didn't drag it out or lie. A lot of people will bring up his playoff wins, but I think that's rather meaningless as far as HOF criteria.
  13. I would assume veteran players are usually better pinch hitters, but they probably get more opportunities as well.
  14. That looks nice. I remember hearing about those last year when season ticket holders (I think?) received them.
  15. So it was announced yesterday that Pettitte has officially decided to retire. I don't think it's a huge surprise since there were rumors going back to before Christmas that he wouldn't be coming back. It also seemed like the Yankees weren't planning on him coming back. Hall of Famer or not? I would lean towards "no", but I suppose an argument could be made either way.
  16. Gamel also got injured last year during spring training. Hard to play a guy when he isn't healthy.
  17. Well, to hear some tell it previously, you'd think the Brewers' staff was a bunch of clowns. I do agree DL time doesn't tell the whole story, though.
  18. How do you know Weeks is willing to accept 5 yrs/$50 million?
  19. "I don't get the flabbergastedness of many about this Kotsay move. Look, it's a depth thing. If he stinks, he won't be kept around. There may or may not be any "reward" to this, but it's at least pretty much a no-risk thing." I agree. It's one of those low risk type moves every team makes every season.
  20. Todd just confirmed it on Twitter. Is staying on with MU coverage as well.
  21. Some tough snow blowing and shoveling today, but I lived. I don't think anyone on our street died or had their houses cave in from all the snow. Thank goodness the media was all over this one!
  22. Haudricourt has a link to Will Carrol's story on SI.com. The Brewers have put a lot of time and effort into their medical program, and no trainer works harder or is more dedicated than Caplinger. I saw him at "Brewers On Deck" last Sunday, taking advantage of having all of the players under one roof to do some work on medical records. When you put all of that work and dedication into a plan, it's nice to see results. And, as this column by Will Carroll notes, the Brewers have fared better than most.
  23. Yes, definitely. Hopefully something else can be organized in terms of raising funding. The voting was mentioned all over radio and newspapers around here, so I'm still somewhat surprised it fell short.
  24. Briggs, I think you're really under selling how much worse off the Cardinals would be without Pujols in their lineup. I admit I don't really know their minors system. Maybe they have a big hitting prospect in the minors I am unaware of?
  25. Some teams would have probably cut him. If Lawrie had been able to stick at 2B and advancd a little more quickly, that isn't an impossible scenario. I don't see how you can say they've "botched this beyond repair." I can already see the Rickie Weeks Fan Club on this board is ready to tar and feather Melvin if Weeks leaves in free agency.
