  1. Reports Bill Ladson of MLB.com. Good luck in Washington, Todd. I hope they let you run in to the Ultimate Warrior music like you did in Milwaukee!
  2. I think it is normal to have people like that handle some of the "lesser" negotiations. It gives them experience they can use for potential organization advancement.
  3. Yeah, the difference is that Meche had injuries and would have required surgery to fix. Suppan's skills were declining, but he was still healthy. Can't really fault him for trying in 2010. If anything, fault the Brewers for putting him in the rotation again to start the season when it was obvious Chris Narveson was a better option out of Spring Training.
  4. Rickie on Uggla's deal is good value for the Brewers, and frankly I think Genske & Weeks are far closer to reality than the Brewers at this point (if public statements are to be taken at face value). I think this is really easy to say when it's not your money. If he plays for the next five years like he did in 2010, sure, you're absolutely right. If he plays like he did over the past five years for the next five years (and has a similar health history), then it's lousy.
  5. I think the Brewers are frustrated by Weeks' agent more than anything. It came out a while ago that they were irritated with how the Sabathia free agency "talks" went. Melvin seemed to feel like Genske ignored them, and mentioned that he never bothered to make a counter offer to the club.
  6. The problem with your plan is that if all four of the current starters play like they can, there just won't be that many days off for any of them. It's not like you're going to bench each of those guys one or two days a week so Gamel can start.
  7. It would be nice if people could attempt to see this from the Brewers' perspective. They drafted him in the first round, and stuck with him through several injury plagued seasons while other teams probably would have given up on him. He has finally had ONE healthy/good season. The risk to the Brewers with regards to an Uggla type deal would be huge. I'm not saying they shouldn't re-sign him, but they need to proceed with caution.
  8. He was going to get around $15 million, based on reasonable projections, and that's what he got. Going to arbitration just to prove some sort of point would have been silly.
  9. Casey McGehee is indeed getting a bobblehead on May 22nd.
  10. Pretty stand up move for him.
  11. Braun won't budge because he's under contract. Well, that's his prerogative. Why be upset about it?
  12. Armando Galarraga just got DFAed by the Tigers. Any chance the Brewers put in a claim for him?
  13. That's a really good point, especially since every indication says he'll be in the bullpen in 2011.
  14. I'm speculating, but I wonder if Boras and Prince wanted to get something done relatively quickly with the Brewers, to show that they aren't going to be impossible to deal with in free agency negotiations next winter.
  15. Thanks, Baldkin. I'm thinking that might be the issue.
  16. Good riddance to Witrado. Hopefully someone will get the job who actually appreciates covering the Brewers.
  17. 2B would be a tough hole to fill in 2012 if Weeks leaves.
  18. Actually, if Pujols went to the Cubs, it wouldn't hurt the Brewers that much. They'd still be facing him as often as they do now, but on a more incompetent team with poorer ownership. And if he gets hurt or starts to decline (long shot, I know), it could cripple the Cubs for years to come.
  19. *bump* I've been having a weird computer issue come up. We have a Windows 7 desktop PC that's only a little over a year old. Lately I've been noticing about once a week, that I'll find the computer has turned itself off. This happens after it's been in sleep mode for several hours. I do NOT have it set to power itself down after a certain period of time. When I reboot, I get the menu screen that tells me "Windows 7 failed to shut itself down properly." I proceed in normal mode and everything is fine. Windows 7 gives me an option box, telling me that "Windows 7 experienced an unexpected shutdown", and than says it will "check for a solution to the problem". Nothing comes up, however. I do not figure it's a virus. Anyone have a clue what the problem might be?
  20. Based on contracts given out this winter: Yes.
  21. Well, I'm not as enamored as some are on this board with Mat Gamel...but I think you hit the nail on the head with your second paragraph. Gamel is insurance for when Fielder leaves. We really don't have anyone else currently in the upper levels of the system who could step in and play a corner infield position, and probably put up similar numbers to what Gamel probably will. If the team does find itself needing a reliever in spring training, you're not going to find a guy anywhere comparable to Marmol/Chapman at that point. So the asking price will be a lot less anyway.
  22. The bullpen isn't a position of need for the Brewers right now. I don't see why Melvin would do a move like that at all. Certainly not with Gamel.
  23. I haven't gone in the past and won't this year. Big crowds and waiting in line to get an autograph aren't my thing. Seems like an event that would be cool if you have kids, but since I don't, I don't have much reason to go.
  24. Seems like a fair price if he continues playing like he has. Kind of ho-hum for Reds fans since it doesn't buy out any of his FA years, though.
  25. I love my team more than the Yankees, but I still hate the Yankees a lot. Cheering for the Yankees is like cheering for the house in blackjack.
