  1. Additional note: If reports are to be believed, Boras did NOT want Gonzalez to sign this deal, but CarGo decided to do go ahead with it. Maybe a certain local Boras client could take a hint from this. Wishful thinking, of course.
  2. Chris Capuano has signed a one year deal with the New York Mets, according to the New York Post. Good luck in New York, Chris.
  3. Axford really isn't established enough to bring a really decent return in a trade right now. If he has another great season and some other team is desperate, then fine. Otherwise you ride him out while he's cheap and hope he stays consistent. Going back to having an older and overpaid bullpen would be terrible for this franchise right now. I also agree that I can't see Braddock cutting it as a closer long term.
  4. I suppose it's possible that they are delaying getting into any serious contract talks until closer to spring training. Perhaps right now they're simply focusing on Weeks and others right now.
  5. This seems to be all but a done deal, already announced on Gonzalez's twitter account. 7 years, $80 million extension for CarGo. Seems like a good move for the Rockies and for Gonzalez. They now have both Gonzalez and Troy Tulowitzki locked up under long term deals. This is also something of a big deal as he is a Satan Scott Boras client.
  6. Heyman says the Brewers aren't looking at an extension with Greinke right now. I really don't get this one. You would think Melvin would at least explore this, unless Greinke is adamant about hitting free agency in a couple years.
  7. Young makes $16 million/yr for the next three seasons (according to Cot's). I can't see the Brewers taking that on right now.
  8. Well, $19 million a year is still a lot of money. I suppose it would depend on the total length of the contract. 5 or 6 years?
  9. Apparently sources in the Dominican Republic are saying that Beltre has agreed to a 6 year, $96 million deal with the Texas Rangers.
  10. I agree. I think it's a good idea to start him in Nashville, and look at him as probably the first option to call up if someone gets hurt (knock on wood). I do think he could at _least_ be a #3 in the majors if he stays healthy. His stuff is really good, from what I've seen.
  11. That's a good point. I knew he barely played last season (only 33 games), but in 2009 he only played in 106 games, which I hadn't realized. So his value should be somewhat low right now, I would suppose.
  12. He won't take a minor league deal, I'd assume. He doesn't really fit with our MLB roster at this point. Just doesn't seem like it would make sense for the Brewers at this juncture.
  13. Well, he'd certainly be a boost over Gomez (assuming he'd play in CF). I have no idea what it would take to get him, though. My guess is that Cleveland is looking for prospect type players, which we don't really have to spare at this point. He makes "only" $7.5 million this season, so you'd think there would be a way to fit him in if a deal could be struck.
  14. Hopefully Weeks can be extended and at least one of Marcum/Greinke can be extended as well (or better yet, all three, but that seems like a pipe dream). I'm hoping we'll here some news on at least one of these fronts soon.l
  15. Sounds like a one year deal worth at least $7 million, plus incentives could push it to around $10 million total. Doesn't seem like a bad move for Baltimore.
  16. As long as you can explain the gap in your employment, I really don't think it's a huge deal. Being able to demonstrate that you've maintained your job skills in some fashion (perhaps part time classes?) can be pretty huge, though.
  17. Al, if you are right, they may have some wiggle room to add some more payroll before the season after all.
  18. *bump* With the Saito signing, the Brewers must be around $86 million or so?
  19. Well, the biggest issue with Furcal would be his salary. I really can't see the Brewers taking on a $10 million+ salary at this point. The payroll already has to be in the mid-80's, right?
  20. I thought Cruz looked pretty good defensively in his limited time with the Brewers this past season. Obviously that's a very small sample, though. I just want to see the guy get a shot after the strong winter he's had. Sometimes guys like this seem to fly under the radar and then have solid careers. You just never know.
  21. Right, I understood that. I just wasn't sure if his name would still be on it. The link you provided clarifies things, so thanks for posting it.
  22. Drew Olson says a new ownership group has taken over the Milwaukee restaurant. Not sure if Ryan Braun will still be attached to this or not.
  23. I don't know if you consider this "car racing", but Mario Kart is pretty fun and obviously family friendly.
  24. Jon Heyman has the Brewers atop his list of MLB winter winners here.
