  1. Recover from what? His season last year? I'm not sure what you're referring to.
  2. Are the assessments of the Brewers having a "poor" minor league system basically a result of the last two 1st round draft picks? Arnett struggling and Covey not signing probably had a major impact, I would guess.
  3. Why can't Doug Melvin just get every other GM to trade him great starting pitchers for mediocre prospects, and force top tier free agents to sign here for less money than we can afford? Fire Doug Melvin already, Mark.
  4. Haudircourt thinks Brewers have a chance, says Weeks wants to stay. I think they'll get something done, personally.
  5. Do we even know if Beachy has been offered? This is all a bit presumptuous.
  6. He's not going to be able to pitch this season. Honestly, he'll probably never pitch again in the majors if I had to guess.
  7. Maybe it would encourage them to be more open to dealing Lorenzo Cain? I don't see too many other viable trade chips without dealing some of the pitching in the minors (which I dont' want to see them do if possible).
  8. Supposedly the Yankees have already gone to 7 years and around $160 million for him. I expect Lee to be wearing pinstripes during a press conference early next week, at the latest.
  9. Haudricourt with the latest: http://www.jsonline.com/blogs/sports/111590359.html Sounds like the Brewers are adamant about not going more than two years with Pavano, which is good to hear. They may end up getting outbid by the Twins, though.
  10. That's pretty cool, Stevo.
  11. Yeah, if you can get a young high upside arm like that, it's worth Lo Cain.
  12. He can steal a ton of bases (70 in 2009), but I'm not sure that's enough to make up for his .749 career average OPS.
  13. The line before what Peavey quoted really made me smirk: “We’ve gone well beyond starting the process,” said general manager Doug Melvin, a bit incredulous that Boras would suggest the time hadn't come to discuss such things. Just shows again how full of it Scott Boras is.
  14. Ever notice how on other message boards, BoSox fans are practically begging for other teams to trade for Ellsbury? Ellsbury missed most of last season due to injury. Not sure how much you can depend on him for this season.
  15. Yep, the rich keep on getting richer. How many people were saying after 2008, "Yeah, the Rays are in the World Series, but how long before they have to rebuild?" I guess now we know the answer. Two years. It's off seasons like this that make me appreciate how difficult Doug Melvin's job is a bit more.
  16. I think the Greinke ship has long sailed after it was reported Melvin made two trade offers to KC, which Moore turned down. Garza could still be a possibility, but I'm not getting a feeling that the Rays are aggressively shopping him yet. I really don't want to see Pavano signed to a 3 year/$30 million-ish deal, which seems to be the going rate for starters of his caliber this winter. I'd be OK if it's a two year deal, but that's about it. As much as I hate to say, he'd be OK as a two year sort of "stop gap" along with Randy Wolf, until some of the younger starting prospects are ready.
  17. "Now we know who Wil Nieves is." How apt.
  18. I didn't feel like starting a new thread for this, but maybe someone can help: I received a weird voice message on my cell phone this afternoon from a number I didn't recognize. They left a voice message, but the man was talking somewhat fast, and I couldn't really understand the name or company he said he was calling from. I was able to determine through Google that it's a Rockford, IL cell number. Is there a way to reverse lookup cell phone numbers without paying a big fee? I would like to know if this is a legitimate business call before calling him back.
  19. Maybe that's so, but it's not like the Brewers can afford to give him an Adrian Gonzalez type contract anyway. It just seems pointless to suggest it at this point. Here's more from Haudricourt with quotes from Boras.I can't read any of it without thinking that Boras is just doing more of his usual big money blow hard routine.
  20. I think it's condescending for Boras to even suggest Fielder will re-sign with Milwaukee at this point. Everyone knows he won't. I think I would have been sorely tempted to slap Scott Boras if I heard him say that in person. Anyway, it's so obvious he's going to hit free agency, I don't know how he could say this with a straight face.
  21. Crew07, I was wondering when you'd be showing up to dump cold water all over this trade. I get that you don't like that he doesn't have a 95 mph fastball, but I think calling him a "pitchability" guy is a bit of a stretch. He apparently has one of the best changeups in all of MLB. As far as your comments about the Brewers re-signing him, we'll see. They have him for two years as of right now...his age 29 and 30 seasons. Those are prime years for virtually all good starting pitchers. I doubt they're going to lock him up to some huge 6 or 7 year deal at this point.
  22. I really wouldn't put any stock into anything on Bleacher Report. Just sounds like a writer pulling out a trade idea from thin air.
  23. Briggs is right. They probably plan to have Kottaras, Nieves, and Maldonado compete for the backup spot in Spring Training. Since none of them are that great anyway, I'm fine with that.
  24. You never know. They certainly have money to spend and might be looking to make a splash.
  25. Weird blurb on MLB Trade Rumors this morning: Joel Sherman (of the New York Post) also checked around and ruled out the Cubs as a seven-year team. He says there was some buzz about the Brewers, but that the finances are beyond their means.
