  1. MLB Trade Rumors makes the amusing observation about how this new contract for Tulowitzki affects the Derek Jeter contract negotiations. Tulo is going to average just over $15 million/yr, which is what the Yankees offered Jeter.
  2. Did Gomez get hurt or something? Cruz's hot winter makes me wonder if he'll be in the mix during Spring Training.
  3. Right. Actions speak louder than words. I get the feeling, given some of the comments Prince made after the July trade deadline, that he doesn't want to stay here long term anyway.
  4. They've already offered him a contract around $100 million, which he turned down. I doubt giving him a third year opt out option would sway him. It's a creative idea that clancy has, but I firmly believe Fielder is hell bent on testing the market after 2011.
  5. I don't know if I'd read too much into the Weeks comments yet. Sounds like negotiations could heat up in the next week or two. We'll see.
  6. I might swing by (I'll be working somewhat close by that day), but since the reviews for these things seem to usually be "meh", I'll probably skip it.
  7. Some snow coming here, with a very light covering on the ground. Reminds me that I have to go buy gas for the snow thrower yet.
  8. There's a story out there now saying that the Rockies were basically scared of losing Gonzalez (Boras client) and Tulowitzki in back to back seasons. Probably not the bets rationale for a long term contract, I'd think.
  9. This seems like a pretty solid list. I like McGehee, but if Fielder can't be dealt, a possible trade involving Casey should definitely be explored.
  10. They could claim they are putting Dunn in left, moving Braun to right, Hart to center...using Cain as a backup, and Gomez in the minors. I don't think anyone would buy it though.
  11. Story is up on MLB Trade Rumors that Dunn is seeking a 4 year/$60 million deal. So that's in the wheelhouse of what we were discussing on this board.
  12. Jeter would be walking away from quite a bit by leaving New York. He simply won't have the same cachet playing in another city, even a large one like San Francisco, as he has basically already cemented his legacy in New York. Leaving now for a bit more money would send a terrible message to his fans, and I'm not sure they would just accept him back with open arms upon retirement. He stands to make quite a bit from further endorsement deals. His 3,000th hit will be much more prestigious as a Yankee than as a Giant (or whatever club). There has also been talk in the past of him working with the Yankees beyond his playing days, perhaps even as a part owner. That opportunity probably won't be there if he snubs a $45 million contract and leaves the club.
  13. Yeah, like I said in another thread, I agree. I could have seen two years max, but that contract would likely not work out well for the Brewers.
  14. http://ezinearticles.com/...-Hijack-Virus&id=2195938 This seems to have instructions on how to do it. Good luck.
  15. Palmeiro should get in, steroid connection or not. Only one of four men to ever have 500 homers and 3000 hits. Hard to ignore that. I hope Blyleven gets in, and Dave Parker should get more consideration with Dawson's induction. I do think Alomar should get in. Not sure on Larkin or Bagwell. Kind of borderline IMHO.
  16. Plus that proposed offer isn't really much more than the Brewers were already rumored to have offered. Prince is holding out for at least $150 million or so, which the Brewers should have no part of.
  17. I'm guessing Melvin may have floated the idea of an extension once last time and Boras said "no." I think the Winter Meetings will be very telling. Either we'll start to hear some concrete rumors about Prince being traded, or Melvin will accept the fact there isn't much market for him and go into 2011 with Prince at 1B.
  18. Yeah, I wouldn't have wanted to see Milwaukee do that deal with him either.
  19. I could see the Brewers visiting something like this in a couple years. As it is, they have Braun under control for five more years, basically all of what would be a ballplayer's expected "prime years." No reason for the club to rush into another extension with him.
  20. I really doubt Melvin will or won't trade Fielder based on "Roenicke wants to keep him." That quote was obviously just a cover in case the Brewers don't get any decent trade offers for him.
  21. I could see the Yankees offering him a 4th year (maybe as an option with a sizable buyout) to get this done and so both sides can "save face."
  22. For something different, here is Leslie Nielsen in "Bonanza", circa 1967. He actually plays the villain (sort of).
  23. I agree that ESB is probably the best of the six movies. Funny that I didn't know the man's name until recently.
  24. Well, like I said, I could be mistaken. I assume he would come here if the Brewers are willing to beat out everyone else. The nice thing with Dunn is that you basically know what you will get from him every year, as he is extremely consistent offensively. Defensively, you know he's going to be a negative going in. Whether he's worse than Fielder seems debatable to me.
  25. Yeah, I don't see how Hoffman being used in a few save opportunities late in the year was really taking away anything from the young guys. I think Axford, Loe, etc. had all proven themselves by that point, and probably needed some time off, like CWH said. Anyway, if there was indeed some kind of agreement in place like sgtcluels alludes to, I really don't mind. The Brewers should play the system as much as they can. It's not like MLB is doing Milwaukee a lot of favors as a whole.
