  1. logan, I think you're being a bit ridiculous. Is Attanasio a perfect baseball owner? No, probably not. But no small market team is going to make all the right moves all the time. We're certainly in a much better position than most comparable markets (CLE, KC, PIT, OAK, etc). To say Attanasio hasn't been better than the Seligs were in the '90s, other than spending more money, is pretty laughable. This team was a second rate afterthought when Attanasio purchased it, and now they at least have the chance to contend regularly. I'll take that happily at this point.
  2. Anyone have an extra they would be willing to part with for a reasonable price? I'm referring to the one of his famous game winning home run. I don't really have much to trade right now, but would be willing to pay for one. PM me. Thanks.
  3. Well, you can't give all of the credit to Jack Zdurencik and none to Doug Melvin. People have been pining for "impact pitching" around here and it's finally arrived, just maybe a year or two later than people had hoped for (perhaps somewhat unreasonably).
  4. That's actually a pretty good comparison.
  5. 20fry, I'm glad it's not just me. I didn't think that looked much like Braun at first, and I'm glad someone else feels the same way. The face makes him look like Roy Halladay or some other grizzled veteran; and the stance seems to be off like you said.
  6. If it's too expensive, it's too expensive. Don't feel bad about it.
  7. As many are pointing out on that other link, this was probably the work of a Cubs fan or someone connected to the Cubs. Not sure why the Brewers should be apologizing.
  8. The first post in the thread doesn't make any sense. I thought Melvin had done absolutely nothing to acquire any power pitching whatsoever... Anyway, yes, it is quite refreshing and I don't remember a group of guys like this. You'd probably have to go back to the early '90s at the earliest.
  9. If Rogers is from Maine, how does he even know how to hold a baseball, let alone throw it?
  10. Well, Aaron his hit final home run as a Brewer and held that record for many years, so I think it was worth retiring his number.
  11. Thought it was interesting that over on the JSOnline blog today, a supposedly well connected poster there is convinced that Ozzie Guillen is going to be the next Brewers manager. I would love to see it, but I'm not going to hold my breath.
  12. I just don't get who would be so desperate for a grill that they would steal it.
  13. Well, I think Hoffman might be remembered a bit more fondly... Anyway, I tend to agree that retiring his number would probably be overkill. I wouldn't mind seeing some sort of plaque commemorating his 600th save, though.
  14. Overall Mark Attanasio has been a great owner for this team. Mark Cuban is a pipe dream, and I'm not sure he would be any better than Attanasio in the long run. I guess we might get to see him ejected from the owner's seats occasionally, which would probably excite some fans for whatever reason.
  15. Essentially if he bought the Dodgers, he would have to sell the Brewers first, right?
  16. We have an older Acer laptop that we basically just use for web browsing and a bit of word processing. It was starting to run really slow. It came with Vista, which I think is pretty terrible. Well, I had a Windows XP install disk from a previous desktop that I decided to install over Vista. Everything is working great so far (laptop is MUCH faster now), but one thing...I cannot figure out how to enable the laptop's wireless internet capability! I've already updated to XP service pack 3, and I can't even find an option to turn on wireless. Help! Edit: Nevermind...I figured out I just had to download a ton of drivers (including one for the wireless device). Of course this was a clunky process as I had to transfer stuff back and forth with a thumb drive. But I think I have it figured out now.
  17. I'd have no problem with that. Narveson seems like he's really stepped things up as of late. Maybe he just needed to get fully "stretched out" as a starter in order to hit his stride. Starting him in the bullpen this season really hurt him early, I think.
  18. We'll see. He's at 555 now (or thereabouts), but not getting any younger. Still seems pretty healthy, though.
  19. My skin is fairly sensitive, and I used to always get small nicks with a straight razor, no matter how careful I was. I honestly think electrics don't do quite as good a job, but they come close. I've also found splashing on some "Lectric Shave" right before I shave helps a lot. I usually keep my electrics for 4-5 years and then buy a new one. You can clean out heads without spending money on a replacement.
  20. This is really the first I've heard about stuff being stolen in the parking lot. I mean, I'm sure it happens on occasion, but three times in one year? Ouch. Your friend might consider investing in at least a vinyl truck cap if she's going to store stuff in there during games.
  21. I thought this would make for a fun discussion. With Trevor Hoffman getting his 600th save last night in Milwaukee, and being a probable first ballot Hall of Famer; should the Brewers retire his #51 someday? Yes, he's only been a Brewer two seasons and hasn't taken them to the World Series or anything; but I have to think his number would look pretty good next to Rollie's. Discuss.
  22. I know the Rockies have some kind of promotion with Taco Bell (free taco if the Rockies win or something like that). Carlos Gonzalez is in the TV ads.
  23. Yeah, I saw that a TV station in Maine is reporting that, so it could likely be true.
  24. Yeah, I agree with endaround. Has it only happened with one game? Maybe watch tonight's game and see if it happens again.
  25. Yeah, I was encouraged by Gomez's more recent comments as well. Hopefully he is sincere. It's not like it would be a bad thing for the Brewers to have two really good CFs on hand next season.
