  1. I agree with JMF above. Kind of much adieu about nothing. I'd rather have a player give an honest but diplomatic answer than read another, "I'll do whatever the team wants", type of generic baseball response.
  2. Didn't Morgan have some "issues" when he was in the minors as well? I could be mistaken.
  3. Well, most of us only "watched" it in the most literal sense. I couldn't tell if I was watching Jeffress or vintage footage of Bob Gibson at certain points.
  4. That is some serious, serious heat for a starting pitcher. No kidding. I guess I hadn't realized Rogers was that much of a fire baller at this point. Would be nice to see him in the spring training mix.
  5. I really hope the Brewers re-evaluate their local TV options for next season. Or at the very least, if the game is carried on the normal FSN-HD feed by the cable/satellite companies, provide the HD signal. The quality of the broadcast last night was seriously 1960s-ish.
  6. Yeah, the thing is the Yankees are basically playing with house money and the Brewers are using their life savings, when it comes to these types of huge contracts. Signing Lee and then seeing him go down to a serious injury, or even just declining, could be devastating to the team. Have to remember that he just turned 32 as well.
  7. Jeffress' debut broadcast in glorious no-definition.
  8. OK, a bit of hyperbole on my part. My impression is that most players, coaches, and fans hate it, though.
  9. Gamel has only played like three games in RF, if I'm not mistaken. Between Hart and Dickerson, I don't see any realistic reason to try Gamel there right now.
  10. Plus Lee may want to go pitch with his former "co-ace" again.
  11. The worrisome thing is that he's 33 and his WHIP has steadily climbed each of the last four seasons (including this one). His SO/9 has also declined the past three years. I guess if they were willing to eat half his contract and not demanding some high end player in return (I wouldn't deal Gamel or McGehee for him), it might be worth exploring.
  12. I think the Brewers should take the Pirates' approach and focus on untapped markets like India, versus trying to play with the big boys in Japan, etc.
  13. I know it's a dumb reason, but they won't end Prince's consecutive games played streak if they don't have to. I think Gamel will mostly pinch hit and perhaps spot start at 3B.
  14. I think your logic is sound, and I like what you put together. That said, 6 years/$120 million is absolutely the upper limit of what I would like to see this team pay any starting pitcher. The problem is that if the Yankees really want him (which seems to be the case), they will just tack on more money and/or years and the Brewers won't responsibly be able to top it. The only way we're going to be able to add serious impact pitching this off-season is through trades, I feel. Lee is the only really good SP on the free agency market this winter.
  15. I think I saw Trevor Hoffman at a Best Buy last May (didn't get to talk to him and didn't ask if it was really him...looked like he just wanted to buy something and leave with the two kids that were with him). That's my only encounter with a Brewer outside of a baseball stadium.
  16. Because everyone hates field turf. The whole point of Miller Park was to be able to enjoy outdoor baseball when the weather permits. Turf does not equal true outdoor baseball. I'm guessing they'll invest in curtains eventually, but that will be a multi-million dollar investment.
  17. I think he's re-affirming my belief that he's closer to being a really good #2 than a true #1.
  18. Does the Dear Leader allow their baseball players to leave, though?
  19. Sounds like the Brewers are as good as gone, as far as that affiliation goes.
  20. Except the Dodgers were more or less in contention much of the season.
  21. In my mind, Prince will be traded, and they'll get a quality SP for him. If you trade Gamel or McGehee, they'd better get a quality guy for him. Not just a middling bottom of the rotation type. But if you can get a high upside SP for one of them, I think you have to pull the trigger. We really only have Gallardo and Wolf as locks for the rotation next season.
  22. Good catch on Hudson being extended. Here's the list of potential SP Free Agents from MLB Trade Rumors: Bronson Arroyo (34) - $11MM club option with a $2MM buyout Erik Bedard (32) - $8MM mutual option Jeremy Bonderman (28) Dave Bush (31) Jose Contreras (39) Kevin Correia (30) Doug Davis (35) - $6.5MM mutual option with a $1MM buyout Jorge De La Rosa (30) Justin Duchscherer (33) Shawn Estes (38) Josh Fogg (34) Jeff Francis (29) - $7MM club option Freddy Garcia (35) Jon Garland (31) - $6.75MM mutual option with a $600K buyout Rich Harden (29) - $11MM mutual option with $1MM buyout Aaron Harang (33) - $12.75MM club option with a $2MM buyout Hiroki Kuroda (36) Cliff Lee (32) Ted Lilly (35) Rodrigo Lopez (35) Kevin Millwood (36) Sergio Mitre (30) Brian Moehler (39) Jamie Moyer (48) Vicente Padilla (33) Carl Pavano (35) Brad Penny (33) Andy Pettitte (39) Nate Robertson (33) Ben Sheets (32) Jeff Suppan (36) - $12.75MM club option with a $2MM buyout Brett Tomko (38) Koji Uehara (36) Javier Vazquez (34) Brandon Webb (32) Todd Wellemeyer (32) Jake Westbrook (33) Dontrelle Willis (29) Chris Young (32) - $8.5MM club option
  23. OK, yeah, moving Hart would make more sense. Didn't think of that earlier. Let's leave Bill Hall in the past as far as the Brewers though, please!
  24. I think Cain said in an interview that one of his AAA coaches called him that (I could be completely wrong, though).
  25. You want Dickerson to start at 1B? I really can't see that happening. I kind of like the idea of Hudson, as long as it isn't a long term contract.
