  1. Sorry for a double post, but I have to ask this question. Would this have been inappropriate as a bobble? http://i2.cdn.turner.com/si/2008/writers/david_sabino/09/30/sabino.digits/ryan-braun-ap2.jpg
  2. http://www.brewerbobbleheads.com/uploads/2/5/8/6/2586239/8454675.jpg?116x154 Yep, that's the one.
  3. I enjoy being able to listen to radio stations online. I like listening to 540 ESPN and the like, which I can't normally get on my home stereo. What I don't like is hearing the same PSAs ad nauseum. I don't need to repeatedly hear about people getting mangled in car wrecks to know that drunk driving is bad, and such.
  4. We should remember that Lucroy is only 24 as well. He doesn't seem to waste too many ABs (31 K's in just under 200 ABs isn't horrible) and I think will develop better patience at the plate as he matures. I don't think you can compare him to Gomez offensively, who just seems to go up there and hack at everything. As far as Kottaras, I don't think you can ask much more from a backup catcher. If anything, I hope he improves defensively. Overall I'm pretty happy with the Brewers' current catching battery. A couple years ago, most would have figured that Angel Salome was the future behind the dish for the Crew. It's nice to see that even though Salome has faltered somewhat in the minors, Melvin isn't relying on aging and rather expensive veterans anymore.
  5. Kind of hit or miss, but funny concept over all.
  6. Yeah, you guys are right. I just briefly watched the video this morning and assumed it was a third strike. I do think the ump had a bit of a quick hook, but Manny would have probably gotten ejected anyway with how he was yelling at him. That pitch was clearly outside the zone, however.
  7. I don't think he's "letting Gamel wash out." Let's not forget Gamel had a chance to possibly make the team in spring training but got hurt again. I'm certain they're looking at including Gamel in the mix for next season (assuming Fielder is traded). As far as Macha, I'll reiterate my stance. I don't think he is a real problem with this team right now. You can nitpick some of the things he's done; but I don't think it's a stretch to say you could come up with a similar list of gripes with any MLB manager. Bottom line, the team's performance in '09 and '10 has much more to do with the woeful starting rotation. That said, I'm not opposed to seeing him gone after this year though, simply because it will finally appease a vocal part of the fanbase.
  8. I noticed Aroldis Chapman should be up with the Reds shortly (like today or tomorrow), which would make him playoff eligible for the Reds.
  9. I continue to be impressed with Kenny Williams as a GM. He's aggressive and not afraid to take some risks now and then. Edit: Jon Heyman is saying this morning that this will go through as a pure waiver claim, where the White Sox will absorb the remaining $4 million or so left on his contract. Also noticed that Manny left the Dodgers in impressive fashion, getting ejected after a called third strike yesterday.
  10. Slightly off-topic, but this is a really good article from Tom Haudricourt regarding the team's rotation woes: Attanasio's priority: Fix Brewers' pitching
  11. Yeah, Macha inherited a team that ended up having one of the worst starting pitching staffs in the majors, two years in a row. I'm not saying he should get a complete pass; but not many teams are going to playoffs with terrible starting rotations. It just doesn't work.
  12. Could always move this to the Rumors forum for the time being...
  13. Yeah, that was what I was referencing.
  14. Nope, just stating the facts. I have no doubt he had a reliable (at least to him) source for posting the info he did. Just weird that no one else has said anything about it yet.
  15. The Brewers haven't traded for a pitcher in over 2 years, and that needs to change. I would anticipate that will change this winter and you will get your wish. Besides, I really doubt Melvin hasn't explored such possibilities in the recent past.
  16. The Brewers have made pitching a priority in the draft for about the past four years.
  17. What does it matter how quality pitchers are acquired? Melvin acquired Coffey (the technicalities don't matter); and we have three good young relievers right now in Braddock, Loe, and Axford. What is your point exactly? Or is this just another excuse to mindlessly bash Melvin?
  18. Yeah, that strike three was straight as an arrow and clearly in the zone. Gomez doesn't seem to possess any decent pitch recognition at all.
  19. battlekow has been keeping mum about the whole thing, so really hard to say where he got his info. No one else has corroborated this at all. Ah well, something to discuss at least.
  20. Bob Wickman and Geoff Jenkins getting interviewed by Telly on the pre-game.
  21. Hmmmm...this seems unexpected.
  22. Hopefully they catch the guy.
  23. Yeah, I feel bad for Nationals fans. Finally a really stud pitcher to get excited about, and now this. I don't blame the Nats for how they handled Strasburg at all, though. Injuries happen, especially to pitchers.
  24. I wonder if it's developed into more of a psychological issue with the team in some ways. If you go into the game thinking the shadow issue is going to hurt your performance, how do you expect it to turn out? It's sort of like if you go into work on a certain day thinking, "Today is going to suck," then chances are you'll probably have a crummy day.
