  1. Haudricourt just had a Twitter update, stating that Mat Gamel is out early today taking practice at first base. So it seems like they do have some sort of plan for him after all.
  2. Well, they already do the George Webb "6 burgers for 5 bucks" promotion; so they probably don't want to do many more scoring/stat type promotions anyway. I agree that some of the coupon giveaways are kind of lame. I can't typically use the coupons they give away, but I don't really come to the ballpark to get some promo anyway. I have enough cheap Brewers hats lying around at this point (though I'll never turn down a free Brewers hat, I suppose).
  3. Well, Fielder wouldn't cost them much more than Ortiz's salary, and they have prospects to spare. They would also be one of the few teams that could realistically re-sign him. Fielder would be a pretty significant upgrade over Ortiz at this point.
  4. Was at the game and had fun, despite the outcome. I don't know if you could tell on TV/radio, but Colby Rasmus is public enemy #1 for the Cards fans now. A couple guys in the section next to us actually got escorted out after dropping a few choice phrases at him.
  5. Yeah, you're right on Nottso. I don't think it's really any secret at this point that Witrado doesn't care for the team. Every once in a while I'll catch him on WSSP, and he comes off as arrogant and almost condescending when talking about the team as a whole.
  6. Now, I take everything Witrado says with a huge grain of salt; but just heard him on WSSP and he insinuated that the Brewers are still a bit bitter over how they feel the Sabathia negotiations went down. So we'll see if they can work something out for Weeks or not.
  7. We have to also remember that the only reason Lucroy is up now is that Zaun had a season ending injury; and the team didn't really have anyone else to fill in.
  8. had a $250,000 live truck fall thru ice on a frozen lake, Well now, that's a story I'd be interested in hearing.
  9. I remember that. It definitely seemed like he was directing that at Mat Gamel, but possibly others as well.
  10. I'm not sure if Braddock is a good long term rotation solution. Someone more knowledgeable than me might be able to give their assessment.
  11. I woudln't mind either of those scenarios you mentioned playing out. If he fails as a starter, it's not too hard switching him back to the bullpen.
  12. Saw this blurb on MLB Trade Rumors from Jon Heyman (which I take with a HUGE grain of salt): The Brewers are still holding out hope that they can re-sign Prince Fielder. Meanwhile, others in baseball believe that they have virtually no chance of retaining the slugger. Milwaukee's chances of hanging on to Fielder took a hit when the Twins re-upped Joe Mauer for $180MM. Fielder wants at least that much but it's likely too rich for Milwaukee's blood. I just find it hard to believe Melvin and Attanasio have any belief that they can retain Prince past next season. Hopefully it's just Heyman pulling stuff out of his rear or Melvin (probably Boras more likely) starting rumors to increase Fielder's perceived value.
  13. Yeah, the Yankees will likely have two rotation spots to fill. I don't see how you can't realistically pencil Lee into their 2011 rotation at this point.
  14. Well, if he couldn't get two pitchers for Fielder this summer, I don't see how it happens in the winter.
  15. Here's a blurb from Jayson Stark that's up on MLB Trade Rumors right now: One source told Stark that Cliff Lee will follow the money this winter: “Cliff would go to Siberia if they offered him the biggest contract."
  16. That's hilarious. A convert believes!
  17. I think you are correct, FtJ. I do know they can get bonuses for certain awards (All-Star, Cy Young, MVP, etc).
  18. This I agree with, and it seems like Melvin and Attanasio have picked up on this from recent comments. I wouldn't be surprised if they don't sign any FA pitchers this winter. In fact, I pretty much hope that's what they do.
  19. I agree. I'd like to see him get stretched out in the early part of next season. 2011 may end up being a "mini rebuild" year of sorts. I'd rather use it to get him ready to be a full time starter than "waste" a year with him in the bullpen, and then not have him ready in 2012.
  20. Well, good to hear that they'll be moving to HD. Seems like Brewers fans all over have been complaining about it, not just a handful of videophiles.
  21. I'd have to believe we could get a couple really nice young pitchers for Fielder and Weeks (either in separate deals or packaged together). Not crazy about dealing Weeks, but if he won't extend, the team has to what is best for the long term.
