  1. Doesn't the AAA season end in less than two more weeks? What would be the point of a call-up now?
  2. I had a good time at the game yesterday, despite the garbage on the field.
  3. I'd probably kind of cheer for the White Sox, but I wouldn't follow the game anywhere as closely as I do now.
  4. I saw a comment on Twitter that said Melvin was on AM-620 this morning. Apparently he "hinted that Gomez would be in the minors next season." Anyone hear it this morning and have more?
  5. Yeah, no kidding. Just can't get any real momentum going in either direction. Gallardo on the mound today; and I'm going to be there. Let's hope he pitches better than he did in his last outing.
  6. In a related story involving the Florida Marlins: http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news;_ylt=ArMckUxS2BdPqq5UU42ef1YRvLYF?slug=jp-marlinsfinancials082410 The swindlers who run the Florida Marlins got exposed Monday. They are as bad as anyone on Wall Street, scheming, misleading and ultimately sticking taxpayers with a multibillion-dollar tab. Corporate fraud is alive and well in Major League Baseball. A look at the leak of the Marlins’ financial information to Deadspin confirmed the long-held belief that the team takes a healthy chunk of MLB-distributed money for profit. Owner Jeffrey Loria and president David Samson for years have contended the Marlins break even financially, the centerpiece fiscal argument that resulted in local governments gifting them a new stadium that will cost generations of taxpayers an estimated $2.4 billion. They said they had no money to do it alone and intimated they would have to move the team without public assistance.
  7. Yeah, there doesn't seem to be much steam behind this. In retrospect I should have started this in the Rumors/Proposals forum to begin with. I guess it's something to talk about, anyway.
  8. Well, if I jumped the gun on posting this, I apologize. I suppose the mods could move it to the Rumors section if needed.
  9. How do you possibly know this? He is a veteran player in the twilight of his career, and hasn't exactly won multiple World Series rings already. He might be fine with being traded to a contender and having the chance to pitch in October playoffs before his career wraps up. He'd only be there a few weeks anyway. It's not like he'd have to move his entire family and start all over.
  10. Of course this all assumes the White Sox are willing to give up anything of value for him as well.
  11. Because you haven't told them. Maybe it would be worth saying something like, "I work on computers all day, because I'm paid to do it. I don't really feel like working on computers when I come home at the end of the day."
  12. Why would you be "shocked if the Brewers wanted to trade Hoffman?" They don't really need him at this point in the season. Likely if a trade was worked out, Melvin would talk to Hoffman and make sure he's OK with being traded. I assume he'd at lest entertain the idea of being dealt to a contender.
  13. Reports BrewerNation on Twitter. "Want to work out a trade for him. Villanueva cleared waivers. White Sox perhaps interested in him too." Says the Red Sox also submitted a claim on Hoffman but White Sox have priority. Edit: Added question mark as the rumor is unconfirmed. -AT
  14. I think this debate is somewhat pointless. The reason I say that is I believe come 2011, one of Gamel and McGehee will be the starting 3B for the Brewers, and the other will be the starting 1B. I don't really see any other realistic scenario out there.
  15. Does he start in AA next season, or do they move conservatively and put him in Brevard County?
  16. Actually, if I'm not mistaken; in the past the owners did propose a salary floor, but the player's union was against it because they assumed it would eventually lead to a salary cap as well.
  17. Wish I could have been there. I have to say I'm very disappointed, but not surprised, by a lot of the comments I've heard and read today regarding Selig, though.
  18. Unveiling of the Selig statue is today. http://www.jsonline.com/sports/brewers/101351319.html
  19. Checking recent box scores, it looks like he's back to playing 3B primarily.
  20. http://www.thetruthaboutcars.com/unintended-acceleration-in-toyotas-the-ghost-in-the-data/
  21. Would be pretty funny if he ended up back in Boston, after how he left for the Yankees. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2010/08/red-sox-claim-johnny-damon.html#disqus_thread
  22. Naw, you gotta do what's best for you.
  23. Yeah, with his latest blog post regarding Parra, he seemed almost gleeful in ragging on him.
  24. Not to go off on a big tangent, but it sounds like Toyota's "problems" have been really overblown.
