  1. Get hit in the head/back = nothing. Get grazed on the jersey = pitcher ejected. Yep, makes perfect sense.
  2. Yeah, Coffey didn't do him any favors by giving up that homer, but let's not pretend Parra had some great outing.
  3. Not to derail this thread, but why is Spotted Cow so incredibly popular? I have tried it and it's just not my "thing." There's a local bar down the road from my house, and they won't take Spotted Cow off their taps. And it's an Irish pub with only six taps (they do have Guinness, Harp, and Smithwick's, so at least they have the essentials covered). I just don't get what is so great about it.
  4. Just turned this one on. Gomez is unavailable today if anyone wondered/cared.
  5. Despite his acknowledged PED use, it's still a pretty major accomplishment. I don't like the guy, but he's a pretty amazing player.
  6. When have they retaliated? I honestly don't remember.
  7. Yeah, there is basically nothing on the free agent SP market this year that I want Melvin to pursue.
  8. Mark Prior has signed with the Orange County Flyers of the Golden Baseball League.
  9. Well, even if he only ends up putting up an OPS a shade above .800, that wouldn't be too shabby.
  10. I just don't see any reason to rush any of the guys from the minors right now. It would be one thing if the team was contending and needed the help. But at this point I think I'd rather go with what we have, let the young guys develop at a normal pace, and reset in the off-season. Calling up a Rivas or someone in September is fine, but rushing someone like Odorizzi just seems irresponsible at this point. I know "back in the old days", guys came up and played a lot sooner. But that was before MLB was loaded with foreign born players. It was also when many guys were washed up by the time they were in their late 20's. I think there's a reason things are done how they are now.
  11. Yeah, I heard Ron Santo was really whining about that play. However, I really don't think Prince did anything wrong. It seems like the baseball world in general seems to think Prince is an angry jerk and will look for any reason to complain about him.
  12. *bump* Carlos Gomez went to the hospital last night after getting nailed in the back of the head by a fastball. Had some "dizziness", apparently. I don't know if the beaning was intentional. I'm guessing probably not. That said, when is enough, enough? Is it time for Macha to have Coffey or another pitcher nail one of the other guys? Time for someone to charge the mound. I just really am starting to feel like other teams think they can pitch inside and nail the Brewers hitters with impunity.
  13. Just one game last night against some bad pitching, but he had five hits last night. Maybe the start of a hot streak for Braun?
  14. Gomez was hospitalized after the game last night: http://nbcsports.msnbc.com/id/38532383/sports/player_news When is enough, enough already?
  15. Why would they pick Gomez as a plunking target though? I really do think some Brewer is going to snap and charge the mound eventually, though.
  16. I still say he has some sort of nagging injury bothering him. He just hasn't looked "right" in many of his ABs for the past couple months. Macha giving him a day off once in a while probably wouldn't be a horrible idea either.
  17. Thanks for the help, casey. I'm actually just using the default Blackberry browser (I have no idea if there is a technical name for it). Like you noted, the font color changes when I am logged in. I don't get why the site loads fine if I'm not logged in, but when I log in, it changes dramatically. I can try downloading another browser and seeing if that helps as well. The options for Blackberry seem to be somewhat limited (no Firefox version currently).
  18. Thought this was worth bringing up here again as it was being discussed in the Hart contract thread. Haudricourt noted today that Melvin has talked with Weeks' agent about an extension. Apparently one holdup is that Weeks is going to be transitioning to a new agent, because his current one is taking over as president of the Phoenix Suns, as Tyler Barnes noted on Twitter. So it sounds like it could very well happen, just a matter of when.
  19. Like I said earlier, I think it's a risk, but it's a calculated one. Yes, by 2013 this contract may be regrettable, but it shouldn't be something that handcuffs the team from making other moves and signings. Basically, over all I'm not overly excited by this signing. I was firmly in the "Trade him now while his value is high," camp, prior to the July 31 deadline. However, since it seems like teams weren't willing to give up much, may as well keep him around and have some cost certainty. Heck, barring a "no trade clause", they could possibly trade him in another season or two anyway.
  20. I recently purchased a new Blackberry Tour smart-phone. The web browser seems pretty good. Normally, I can access BF.net on this device, and it looks and reads just fine. However, if I log-in, the web page turns to being almost unreadable. Every other post is very faint to the point where the text is almost invisible (the ones with the white background), and scroll bars appear under every post. Like I said, this is only if I'm logged into the site. Any ideas?
  21. I think Gamel will move to 1B with Hart being extended. I don't think they'll risk having Hart change positions after the Bill Hall mess a couple years back.
  22. This is a good point. I think the Dodgers could make a lot of sense if they get this divorce mess sorted out. Not sure about the Rangers, but you never know.
  23. He might have a gentleman's agreement with the KC front office that he can pursue the Atlanta job if it becomes available, too. I've heard rumors that Cox may back off his "I'm retiring after this season, period," stance, especially if the Braves go deep in the playoffs this year.
