  1. They seem to have no plan whatsoever for Lucroy right now. With Salome seemingly out of the catching equation (converting to a right fielder), they should really send Lucroy back down to AAA so he can start every day. Then they could trade for a Blanco type like someone suggested who could back up Kottaras and give him defensive tips.
  2. Odd lineup. I don't necessarily dislike it though. I'm surprised they don't try Hart higher up in the lineup already.
  3. Yeah, I guess I buy into the hype finally after last night. He definitely has nasty "stuff". Nats fans have to be feeling pretty good right now. I did think some of the coverage was over the top with all the "countdowns" and fake pomp (Costas was a bit out of line in his commentary, frankly), but I guess if this gives Washington baseball fans something to get legitimately excited about, good for them.
  4. I agree. It seems like the general decision making on this team has been very indecisive, and smacks of foot dragging all around (keeping Suppan on the roster, moving Parra in and out of the pen, the handling of Bush and Capuano, the situation with Hoffman, the DL management, etc). Just doesn't seem like a smart way to run a professional sports franchise. Maybe there is more going on than we know (like some guys getting showcased for trades); but until we see some logic behind some of these moves, I think a lot of us are going to continue being frustrated.
  5. Been there, done that, with Sheets and Sabathia. No thanks.
  6. I doubt he has much trade value at this point, so I think it's a solid move to see if he can play elsewhere. His bat seems to be good enough.
  7. That sounds great, but I fear Lee is just going to cost too much money, and I don't think there is much else on the FA SP market this coming off-season.
  8. They way I see it we have another window that will be open until Braun and Gallardo are gone for FA after the 2015 season. The right moves this off-season could make 2011 the only real "rebuild" year in the immediate future. I think we could easily be very competitive again in 2012 and beyond with the right plan in place.
  9. I think I heard insurance is usually only taken on bigger contracts.
  10. Love to hear that they are at least experimenting with playing Salome at a different position. Maybe if he excels there they can fast track him to the majors as a right fielder.
  11. Hard to get excited for this one while seeing Strasburg's debut in Washington.
  12. I agree that as things are starting to look, it may make sense to wait and shop Fielder this off-season. It seems like there may be more potential buyers for his services at that point. I sure hope Melvin keeps his eyes and ears open this summer, though.
  13. There was nothing to indicate Riske would be injured this long either. He had a pretty spotless health history, as I recall; and it seemed like a solid move at the time. Maybe a slight overpay at the time, but it really isn't one that's hurting the franchise even now. It's the fact that there's all this other dead money on the books (Suppan, Hall), that makes it painful.
  14. Hasn't "protection" been pretty much statistically discredited? I guess you could argue that there is some sort of unquantifiable mental boost to a hitter knowing he has quality guys behind him, but it seems like it's quite small in terms of actual production. Anyway, we have to remember that some guys like Rivas and Odorizzi may not be all that far off. If at least a couple more of our pitching prospects would finally pan out, we should be OK. Parra stepping up could also be huge.
  15. How is it that a guy has to go on the 60-day DL with "right shoulder fatigue?" Something screwy is going on here. This whole song and dance with the Brewers collective injury situation is getting rather old. I guess at this point in the season it doesn't really matter much, though.
  16. A Cliff Lee signing would make me optimistic and excited, but very nervous at the same time. He's a very very good pitcher, an ace, but he is older than what I'd like to see them commit to going forward (already 31, and has had some injury issues, including this season). Plus you just know some team like the Angels or Red Sox will decide to get in on him, driving up the price anyway. As far as a rebuild, I don't think it has to be that bad, as long as some pieces are moved this season. If Melvin sits on his hands again like last year, it could end up being a much longer turn around period than any of us want.
  17. I think his statement was fine. What was he supposed to say? "Thanks for booing me and not cheering for me at all?"
  18. Maybe we trade an advanced bat (Gamel/Salome) and one or two of our A/AA pitchers for Haren and then trade Fielder for a young pitcher and a young hitter. Sign someone like Dunn or Lee to play 1B next year, and we could be a better overall team without a big rebuilding period. Yo, Wolf and Haren would make a pretty good top of a rotation. I think a plan along these lines makes a lot of sense. While I think a rebuilding period of some sort is inevitable very soon, I don't think it has to be as long as some on this forum seem to think. The Brewers are in a very good position with a lot of money off the books after this season. Of course, the extra payroll flexibility must be used wisely.
  19. Trade Ryan Braun! His contract is very tradeable. Just ask Anthony Witrado... Come on, Gallardo isn't going anywhere. He's exactly the kind of pitcher with the kind of contract the Brewers need more of at this point.
  20. And also quality journalism. This guy just seems like a total clown.
  21. I am so thrilled that Suppan is finally gone. The nightmare is over. But it still seems way too late. He never should have made the roster this season. That's basically how I feel, AJAY. It seems like the Brewers hyped up how they were going to make decisions on the staff this year based on ST performance...Suppan had a horrible spring, but still made the team anyway. Just seems like the writing was on the wall, everyone knew it, but all the Brewers management didn't want to face the truth.
  22. FVBrewerFan, I pretty much agree with your analysis. I just fear Melvin and Attanasio don't have the collective guts to start making moves soon. Attanasio probably fears gate returns declining this season, and Melvin has never been a big "sell off" guy, as evidenced by last season.
  23. I read that too, Marques. Seems like that explains a lot of why Sheets has seemingly gotten better as the season has progressed. Maybe that and just getting "stretched out" again.
  24. I also wonder if a trade may be in the works, though it's hard to imagine Parra or Bush having much trade value at this point.
