  1. Yeah, that's what I was getting at, homer. I'm not sure the average citizen is going to want to go through the extra hassle. They keep trying to talk up how great this is for business people, but I think the average business person won't want to waste all the extra time taking a bus to get to downtown Madison, etc.
  2. You're in Chicago? Nope, no female friends down there, sorry. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  3. Let me guess, it's because they have a paper due that they've put off since the start of the semester or something, right?
  4. homer, I'm not sure if you happen to be married? Can you get coverage through a spouse or someone else, possibly?
  5. I don't see how it will be sustainable. The maintenance on this thing is going to be crazy, as well as paying employees, etc. Tickets are going to cost $25-30, which isn't horrible, but I'm not sure the mass appeal is going to be there like some are predicting. Car travel is an ingrained way of life for most Americans. I'm just not sure if most people want to park near the train station, wait for the train, travel to Madison, take a bus or cab downtown, find a way back to the Madison station later on, etc. I hate to say it, but I think most people are too lazy or lack the forethought to plan ahead for something like that.
  6. Basketball at Miller Park would just be...weird. I don't see how the seating would be configured to make it palatable at all. That aside from the fact they wouldn't sell enough tickets to make it worthwhile.
  7. Didn't someone fairly recent get inducted with a blank hat? I'm thinking Gaylord Perry or someone like that.
  8. I remember last year the Reds were picked to finish ahead of the Brewers by a couple "experts". Seems like they always get more love than they deserve for some reason.
  9. Where did I bring up anything about Suppan being "basically league average?" You're still ignoring that one of the main reasons Suppan was signed was due to the injuries to Sheets, Ohka, and others. They DID need an "innings eater," and unfortunately the reality is that Suppan was the best available at the time. They had to overspend to fill a need after a disappointing '06 season that was caused by lack of starting pitching. I wish people would quit comparing Wolf to Suppan. They are completely different pitchers, and people more articulate than myself have written articles outlining why that is the case.
  10. Well, as far as Dawson, he played 11 seasons with the Expos and only 6 with the Cubs, so I'm not sure why he wouldn't go in as an Expo.
  11. Looks like it's supposed to warm up slightly starting next week. That will be nice.
  12. No, the Hall makes the decision, supposedly with input from the player.
  13. I don't know if they'll still be untucking now that Cameron is gone, unfortunately.
  14. I don't really see what the appeal of basketball at Miller Park would really be. The Bradley Center is a perfectly suitable venue.
  15. McGehee may not be quite as good as last season, but I think he'll be very solid again. I also think the LaTroy Hawkins signing is going to be proven a good move for Melvin. I think Hawkins is going to be a great setup man this year.
  16. If anything, spending has been reigned in a bit the last couple years, the Yankees and a couple other teams aside.
  17. Ah, OK. I didn't realize the Blackhawks sold out all their home games. Maybe the Badgers are a more realistic target if they even want to bring hockey there for a game or two.
  18. This kind of stuff is why I am not a big autograph seeker. None of the aspects being discussed here sound "fun" to me. To each their own, I guess.
  19. I like this one better than the older figure with the retro uni (which I've never bothered to buy). I might get this one, but would love to have a Braun figure to complement it. Also, why is half of home plate seemingly floating into space on this?
  20. He only hit .235. His total 2008 slash line: .235/.343/.479/.822
  21. I hate how people look at the Suppan signing in a vacuum, and use that as a reason that Sheets isn't on the team at this point. Maybe if Sheets hadn't gotten hurt in both '05 and 06, the Brewers wouldn't have felt the need to sign Suppan in the first place. If Sheets was mad about Suppan making more money, he should look in the mirror to see who is partly to blame for that one. Yes, in retrospect, it would be nice if the Brewers had never signed Suppan, but at the time it was a needed move.
  22. No. I'm going off the stats on baseball-reference.com.
  23. I don't get the hand wringing on this one. It's relatively low risk for the Brewers, and it seemed like they wanted to add another lefty bat as a possible option. Even though his bat stunk in '08, he was still able to put up an OPS over .820 in 400 plate appearances.
  24. jhart, as a business owner myself, I would say expecting any business, even one as huge as an MLB franchise, to just "eat" the cost of providing additional security is overly simplistic. That money has to come from somewhere. The bars are creating the issue. Why shouldn't they help pay for an expense they are necessitating? I'm sure this is not much compared to what the Cubs charge those local building owners to have seating on their rooftops, as another comparison.
  25. I think based on what I've seen in the lots in the past, the argument that there is a need for additional policing of that area is a valid one. The Brewers shouldn't be expected to just "eat" that cost. The bars are creating the problem, they should help pay to fix it. Like bjkrautk points out, that fee amounts to a fraction of what a general parking pass even costs per game.
