  1. Replace Corey Hart and Kendall with better hitters?
  2. I think trades like this prove that only people on the internet use WAR. Baseball GMs clearly don't. I believe Melvin is going to let Kendall go and either promote Salome or trade for someone like Ryan Doumit. He's not dumb enough to put out a lineup with absolutely no pop below the five spot.
  3. Exactly. He has other possible trading chips available, and now has a decent amount of salary savings to work with. He won't be sitting on his hands if he wants to keep his job.
  4. How did the Lopez trade "stink"? He was the leadoff hitter people had been pining several years for, and had a great stint with the Brewers. We didn't give up much to get him, either.
  5. To be honest I'm scratching my head more and more at some of the reactions here. Yes, I would have liked to get a bit more for Hardy...but I think Melvin probably was able to get a good assessment of what Hardy's trade value was. Just because it's "only" November 6th doesn't mean he hasn't been calling multiple teams since the off-season began. What happened to all the Billy Beane worshipers around here? Melvin is doing what he probably should have done last off-season...trading rising salary guys, letting aging veterans go, and replacing them with younger cheaper players with high upside. He's going to use the savings to get starting pitching help (something he has reiterated as an obvious need this off-season). He's being more ruthless with his own players, and more aggressive in making moves so far. I like it.
  6. It isn't a banned substance, and I do not believe there will be any suspension forthcoming.
  7. This is making me think more and more that they either make a very aggressive play for John Lackey (though I think he'll end up as a Yankee), or extend Prince Fielder. I would be happy with either.
  8. My guess is Melvin had been calling around and found there wasn't that much demand for Hardy.
  9. The early assessment on MLB Trade Rumors is much more positive than here. Gomez is young, fast, and plays great defense. He will also be cheap and under control for several more seasons. The cost savings will tremendously help in acquiring better starting pitching. I know many here are Cameron fanatics, but his salary was going to hinder the team next year.
  10. I guess they figured that is all they could hope to get for him...also means Mike Cameron will be gone, and I assume that salary will be used to add a pitcher.
  11. I think some are critical just because the bar got set so high on the show, relatively early. Personally I like that Jim & Pam finally got married and that they've advanced a lot of the other plots, rather than having things drag out indefinitely. I do wonder if Michael's mention of Holly last night means they might somehow get back together eventually.
  12. I thought last night's was just "OK". Still funny, but not as good as some the past few weeks. Michael at the dinner table had me in stitches, though.
  13. Well, the big difference is Abreu is in the AL now...so he has more value to the Angels than a Mike Cameron probably would.
  14. Have to love this quote from Iwamura: "I'm definitely interested in the long term, but I first have to do what I can do. We'll see what happens. Hopefully, we can go to the playoffs next season."
  15. I'm not sure. They already have a decent amount of outfielders (Swisher, Cabrera, etc) and are faced with re-signing both Damon and Matsui. Then again, Sabathia and Cameron supposedly remain close...maybe C.C. convinces his friend to come to New York.
  16. Me too. I'm not totally convinced the Marlins will even consider trading him though...then again, it's the Marlins.
  17. Perkins sucks. Go after someone good.
  18. How many times have the Yankees missed the playoffs in the past 15 years? Once? Seems kind of lopsided to me. It's not all about winning the World Series...it's so much easier for the Yankees and other big market teams to just make the playoffs than even middle market teams.
  19. Oh well. He'll get some slap on the wrist fine and that's it. Doesn't affect me. I don't care.
  20. Yeah, but your Cashman quote shows the typical New York Yankee arrogance. No wonder I hate them so much.
  21. I wouldn't worry about about Melvin calling on Matsui...it's obvious he should stick to the AL and be primarily a DH at this point in his career.
  22. Fine, but just admit they have a much higher possibility of making the World Series every year than most other teams. Maybe MLB should split itself up into two divisions...top 10 payroll teams can be the 1st League, and the bottom 20 can be the 2nd League. That's basically how it is now in terms of likelihood to make the playoffs.
  23. I heard it might be around 60 on Saturday. Planning to rake the rest of our leaves up then and do any last minute outdoor stuff too.
  24. Would like to get him. He was bad at the start of the season, but was sent down to AAA, got his "stuff" in order, and came back and was very solid the rest of the year. Maybe McGehee plus one or two lower level minor leaguers (I'd assume one would have to be a pitcher) could get it done.
  25. Yay, they bought a championship. Only number 27 of them, and they've "only" been in 40 of the 90 or so World Series. Yay for them.
