  1. He might not be "good", but he isn't as bad as he is made out to be on this forum and others. Look how many butchers are playing LF around the league. Braun is pretty decent in comparison. I'm not saying he's a gold glove candidate, but his defense is really more maligned than it reasonably should be at this point.
  2. I tend to agree. I don't think he'd even be a big upgrade over Gerut at this point.
  3. I feel that same way. If you give a big multi-year contract to a pitcher like that in his mid-'30s, you're going to get burned. There is just little doubt in my mind about that. The Brewers should have learned they have very little room for error when it comes to handing out multi-year contracts at this point.
  4. One of the blog comments on JSOnline noted that Butler is supposedly working on his changeup a lot, which I guess is one of his worst pitches. If that is the case, that probably explains his poor results so far.
  5. I don't think the Brewers could trade Riske since he's still on the DL, though.
  6. Bucholz should be at least a solid #4/5 type guy, but probably projects higher than that. He has good stuff and had some success this year at the MLB level.
  7. I don't think it's narcissistic. If they called it "Brauny's Bar" or something, not everyone might make the connection. I think most people in the area will instantly recognize the name "Ryan Braun", though. Like others said, the bar has kind of been set already on this stuff. Michael Jordan used to have a chain of restaurants named after himself as well. And hey, if he's putting up cash for it, I guess it's ultimately up to him and his group to call it whatever they want. I don't think any Brewers themed restaurant or bar will top this, though: http://static.panoramio.com/photos/original/10613236.jpg
  8. http://walworthcountytoday.com/news/2009/oct/29/cactus-club-set-reopen-ryan-braun-tavern-and-grill/ Link has some more info. Sounds like they plan to open in 6-8 weeks in Lake Geneva (former Cactus Club location), with more locations to come in Madison and Milwaukee in the future.
  9. Steve Young's story about a USFL owner literally throwing hundreds of dollars at him was pretty amusing, too. It sounds like the USFL forced the NFL to pay their guys better, which was probably a good thing in the long run.
  10. I don't get the fascination. Yes, he was very good at the start of this past season (abnormally so), but was terrible after being traded, and ended up injured. I don't want to see the Brewers invest a lot in him so he can end up being another Jeff Suppan. In 2008 his ERA was about 4.70, and I would expect that to be closer to what one can expect from him at this point coming off an injury.
  11. Hey, Ozzie Guillen is on the broadcast! All right.
  12. Is that a projection for AAA or MLB?
  13. Lackey would be amazing, but he's going to get a huge pay day. The Brewers simply won't be able to afford him. A trade with the Red Sox for someone like Bucholz might be feasible. I just fear Milwaukee will have to give up a lot to land someone like that in trade. Just noticed that Tim Hudson is apparently going to sign a three year extension with the Braves. I guess that eliminates him as a possibility.
  14. With the Dodgers' ownership pending divorce, I really don't see them being big players this off-season. If anything, they may be looking to shed salary, not take it on.
  15. My guess is Melvin will call Scott Boras about him, and Boras will demand some stupid multi-year deal. At that point Melvin should politely hang up on him.
  16. Seems like the usual "He's from Wisconsin so there has to be a fit", type of speculation. He was terrible after being traded this past season, and is already 35. Unless he comes cheap or on some kind of incentive laden deal, I want no part.
  17. The problem here is that some DO use those stats on this site like they're preaching from the Holy Bible. Do I need to bring up the much maligned and often repeated "JJ Hardy was worth $21 million last year," quote? Like I said earlier, I wouldn't have a problem if they didn't stick that dollar sign in front the figure. Putting the dollar sign there insinuates that it has a correlation to real world economics and baseball salaries. They clearly do not.
  18. I'm reading through it now, but if it's on Bleacher Report, it's probably not very reliable. Edit: The article you cited is nearly a month old. In the blog comments he cites this: http://www.jsonline.com/sports/brewers/61948787.html from September 26th. "I don't like thinking about the Milwaukee Brewers without Prince Fielder, I'll tell you that," Attanasio said. "It's a challenge, because on the other side, if you concentrate too much on one player.?.?.?.?It's not like basketball. If LeBron James or Michael Jordan is on your team, you can dominate. Prince could not have been more of a dominant player and we're scuffling to get to .500 with the challenges we've had with starting pitching. What do you do? "If you play that player too much you have to surround him with good enough players to win. On the other hand, players like Ryan Braun and Prince, they come along only every 10 years or so. Believe me, I think Doug thinks about that every day." Anyway, where in that link exactly does Attanasio "confirm" Fielder is on the trading block? It's just an irresponsible blog article.
  19. Yes, pretty much. Because his defense really is not all that bad anymore and his bat is so darn good, that's why.
  20. I'll chime in and say that I enjoyed reading the interview as well. I admit I only very vaguely remember Mr. Juden's career as a Brewer. '98 wasn't exactly a memorable year for the Brewers in general, though.
  21. (I thought I made a post in this thread earlier but don't see it now). Anyway, while I don't live near Muskego, good luck to your brother, Nottso. I can say from personal experience that running your own business can be one of the most rewarding, but also most frustrating, things that someone can do.
  22. Well, it's easy enough to do. They're easily the two biggest marquee names in the organization (at least since C.C. left) and were basically the best offensive tandem in the NL this past season. They deserve the praise they received.
  23. Like I said in the thread on MLB Trade Rumors about this, I wish they'd call it "fantasy baseball currency points" or something, instead of "dollars" in their valuations. Anyway, good signing for the Rays. Gabe plays decent defense and has some pop left in his bat. Seems safe enough for around $1 million.
  24. Looks like they've hired Brad Mills as their manager, according to Brian McTaggart of MLB.com. He is the former Red Sox bench coach.
  25. It is a joke if it only affects one team. $100 million as a salary cap would be unrealistically low, but I don't think something in the $120-140 range would be out of line.
