  1. The idea on approaching the Potawatomi to build the new arena is an interesting one. I'm not sure if they would go for it, but if you let them build a new casino and have the naming rights to the new arena, you would think it would be something to consider.
  2. That is fine to say, but I'd say the Brewers have a much higher chance to make the playoffs again the next few years with Prince than without. Also, I'd like to know who these young above average starting pitchers are that you keep talking about.
  3. Signing Prince to an extension would be huge. It would be a giant middle finger to the big market teams and their fans that covet him so much. For that reason I hope they can get it done. Plus the fact that he and Braun are one of the best hitting combos in baseball. Having them around for at least another 3-4 years together would lengthen our current "window of opportunity".
  4. Yeah, it was more a plot advancement episode than a comedy episode. Personally I kind of thought Recyclops was amusing, but definitely nowhere near the best opening bit they've ever done. I did like Michael telling off that senator and then hijacking the limo, though.
  5. I think there's truth on both sides. No one here really knows how expensive it is to run a baseball franchise in Milwaukee. Beyond just the $80 million in MLB team payroll, they also have to pay draft picks, pay for scouting and development, pay all their employees, etc. It would definitely be really interesting to see both sides of the ledger.
  6. You make an interesting point with this line: What am I missing here? We were 9th in attendance this year, drawing over 3 million fans, yet we rank 17th in payrollof all teams. That gives us about the 3rd lowest fan attendance/payroll ration in the big leagues, making us slightly less cheap than only the Marlins and Padres. Where is all this money going???
  7. Yes, but they're uncommon. The best recent example I can think of was the trade last year that sent Manny Ramirez to the Dodgers and Jason Bay to the Red Sox. I can't remember what the Pirates got back.
  8. I think I would do that trade. Even if Lowe declines a bit, he is still better than Suppan, Looper, etc. I think a lot depends on how much salary Atlanta is willing to absorb, though.
  9. Someone on the JSOnline blog suggested they name the handicapped parking after Ben Sheets or Teddy Higeura.
  10. Somewhat related to the discussion of team finances: Major League Baseball executive vice president Rob Manfred responded strongly to revenue sharing figures thrown out by Scott Boras at last week's general managers' meetings indicating that Boras's numbers "have no basis in reality" and that Boras is living in "fantasy land." Manfred reacted to the uber-agent's suggestion that there are Major League teams who receive up to $80 million from a baseball central fund before they even sell a single ticket.
  11. I agree. Anything more than a two year deal for most of these guys (Mulder, Sheets, Harden, etc) would be pretty foolish, and frankly unwarranted given their histories.
  12. I agree completely. I see too many other forums on the internet that are full of filler posts like "+1", and the like. It's just extra stuff to sift through to get to the real content.
  13. Who's this Ben Sheets you speak of and how is he relevant to the 2009 Cy Young conversation?
  14. Those would probably have to be roughly the numbers SF would have to give up in order for Milwaukee to take Zito. I just don't believe they would.
  15. I think the idea of Gamel moving to the outfield is kind of fan generated. Has he ever played any outfield at all? I'm not sure why so many on the internet are considering it a viable option. I guess because a lineup with both Gamel and McGehee in it in 2010 is probably better than one with Hart and Gamel or McGehee.
  16. This doesn't mean it's a forgone conclusion he'll be gone. I would still guess he'd prefer to stay in Wisconsin at this point in his career.
  17. What's really funny is I remember hearing earlier in the year how Chris Coghlan was just some nobody loser. Good for him. Though I admit I'm surprised. I was thinking J.A. Happ or possibly Tommy Hanson was going to take it, personally.
  18. Doumit would have been useless to the Brewers with two young top prospect catchers in the high minors.
  19. I'm not going to be able to buy the tickets from stu after all (due to not being able to go to the concert tomorrow night, I just found out), so someone else may want to message him if they're interested. Thanks for the help, though.
  20. Whoops, I screwed that up. I'll edit my original post again.
  21. Haudricourt has a new blog up, talking about how Sheets' agent says he'll "be ready to go by spring training." Haudricourt still suggests he'll probably end up in Texas. Anyone think Melvin will try to bring Sheets back to Milwaukee, or is it still the case where the bridge is basically burned down?
  22. This is much easier to say than do, though. Anyone in particular you think Melvin should be targeting?
  23. I love the move. I like that Melvin seems to be showing more urgency in improving the team this off-season, and being a bit more ruthless in letting current players go, in order to make bigger moves.
  24. I generally don't trust international free agents, especially ones from Latin America. I don't think he's the kind of signing the Brewers can afford to risk. They're talking like he could get upwards of $50 million or more.
