  1. Or he could mean that if Kendall is back, it will be for a much lower salary.
  2. I have to believe Counsell would rather stay in Wisconsin at this point in his career. I'm sure if Melvin makes him a reasonable offer, he'll be back.
  3. Haudricourt just mentioned on his blog that Melvin says he was offered "relievers but not starting pitchers" for Hardy. He does mention Capps was offered.
  4. I'd rather let him go and replace him with someone good.
  5. Haudricourt just tweeted that Melvin talked at the GM meetings with Doug Davis' agent. Starting to sound like he might be penciled in for 2010.
  6. By reading Haudricourt's latest article, it sounds like Lucroy is a good possibility in Melvin's mind. He also insinuates that if Kendall comes back, it will be for a much lower salary.
  7. I don't think Jeter is as bad as some make out. People forget that shortstop is a very difficult position to begin with. I don't know if he should have won the gold glove this year, but I don't think he's totally undeserving, either.
  8. Comparing the pitching staffs of the Yankees or Phillies to that of the Brewers is a joke.
  9. I agree, Stevo. My guess is that we'd have to put Gamel instead of McGehee to get it done. Then again maybe the Marlins would rather have McGehee.
  10. Maybe they can put that next to the Miller High Life fountain.
  11. I always liked the brickwork idea...I suppose if they had done something like that, I could have lived with the ivy more. I guess my point was that the ivy by itself just seemed kind of out of place. I definitely agree that the green paint could be livened up a bit. I would guess they're not exactly eager to re-paint a building that is less than 10 years old, though.
  12. I heard a little bit about this on ESPN and they made it sound like he has a good chance to beat it. Wish him the best.
  13. I guess, while I never minded the ivy, I thought it looked kind of out of place. Miller Park is basically a tribute to the manufacturing and industrial history of Milwaukee from a design standpoint, and throwing some fake looking organic material on the outfield wall just seemed kind of weird to me.
  14. I remember there were a few here who wanted to see Bobby Valentine brought in as the Brewers manager last off-season, so I thought it was interesting to see he is being considered for the Nats position. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2009/11/odds-ends-.html
  15. This is all reminding me I need to get off my butt and brew a new batch of beer very soon. I got lazy over the summer and didn't make anything.
  16. I would offer Lopez. Maybe Cameron if you're sure he'll decline...otherwise you can't risk it. They can't afford his probable salary if they want to improve the rotation. Looper should go, as his spot in the rotation should be one that gets targeted for improvement. Like you, I'd bring back Counsell and Vargas if possible. I'd let the others walk.
  17. I enjoyed the interview as well. I actually did like Spivey a lot when he was a Brewer. He always struck me as being a hard worker out there.
  18. Just give them their own trophy at the start of the season and let the other 29 teams actually play for something.
  19. I'd love to have him too. I'm just sure that some team like the Yankees will offer him some stupid 6 year contract that Melvin cannot and should not match.
  20. Yeah, but first you have to sign him for a contract...and around $10 million, they will not do that.
  21. Heether could make it easier to trade Hart, too.
  22. Boy, we could only dream, right?
  23. Wasn't Heether a free agent? Or did they sign him to a new deal?
  24. Sad thing is that other than when he was injured last year, Bush was basically our second best starter. It's clear to me that the two spots that desperately need to be upgraded belong to Suppan and Looper. Suppan should be moved to the pen, and Looper should not be renewed. If that is not clear to Melvin at this point, I'll be very disappointed.
  25. Wasn't Penny pretty bad this past season? I remember the Red Sox fans seemed more than happy to dump him for next to nothing. Looking at his stats, he doesn't seem like he'd be much of an upgrade over what we have now.
