  1. Have their been any recent updates on Capuano's status? I'm not sure if the "bridge is still burned" with Sheets or not. Signing him would be nice, as it could provide some depth. I would just caution that we don't know what kind of pitcher he will be at this point...after being gone a full season, and now a year older, he could have lost some of his velocity and "stuff." Hopefully not, but you never know with pitchers.
  2. Boy, I think you're going a bit overboard on the doom & gloom posts, even more than usual, bklyn. There is no way Hart gets non-tendered, at least not this off-season. He still has value and ability, as guys with his combination of size and speed don't grow on trees. We just probably have to accept that he figures to be a very average player instead of the All-Star caliber outfielder some of us thought he could be.
  3. Any idea what Hart will get in arbitration this year (assuming he doesn't sign a contract)?
  4. If the trend from last off-season continues, that could very well be the case. Oh, and I'd love to see John Maine as a Brewer. He has an established relationship with Peterson.
  5. I don't know if I really see Washington going after him...I think that would be a terrible move for them. They're still probably a year or two away from seriously contending. What would be the point on blowing a ton of money on a guy like Lackey at this point?
  6. I think part of the thinking with Prince was that he couldn't really learn much more in the minors, and I think organizations like to get their players "acclimated" to the big league club environment. Anyway, judging by Fielder's career so far, I think it's hard to argue that he was mishandled in any way. Results are what count.
  7. That's freaky. If the article didn't say that was Sosa, I would have no idea who it was.
  8. From the little I saw of the game, Jamile Weeks (sp?) looked pretty good.
  9. Actually, you're probably right. Their new GM just did an interview where he said something to the effect of "We want to keep Halladay...I think he wants to stay, but wants to win as well, so our timetables may not match up." I think that sets the platform for a possible trade.
  10. It's not a forgone conclusion the Jays will trade him, either. They could very well try to sign him to an extension. They gained some payroll flexibility after trading Rios.
  11. I thought I read he tops out around 90 or so. That could have been a big turnoff.
  12. Maybe Gamel and Salome could get it done at this point. While I'd love to see "Doc" as a Brewer, I equally would not want to see them grossly overpay for a one year rental.
  13. This is already being discussed in the main thread about the Hardy trade. My take is that either the rumor is false and Boston wasn't even offering Bowden (or perhaps were asking for more than just Hardy for him), or that Melvin and staff are very unimpressed by the scouting reports on him.
  14. I don't think anyone advocating that we should keep Cameron around has laid out a realistic way to keep him around and presumably pay him a a similar salary, add better pitching, and not have the payroll increase significantly.
  15. Maybe Melvin and Attanasio can shame Suppan into giving some of his salary back, or at least deferring a good chunk of it. Probably not, but it's a nice thought. The question about Bill Hall is really key though...if his salary is included, it limits their options for this season somewhat. If his salary is written off as a sunk cost or a loss (I don't know if they can actually do that from an accounting standpoint), it adds much more flexibility.
  16. Just curious if that is based on something you've heard, or speculation at this point? Are you thinking they go after someone like John Lackey, or possibly a big trade target?
  17. I find it hard to believe he wouldn't have taken Bowden. Then again Bowden is probably only hyped at all because he is in the Red Sox organization.
  18. I've heard the new Bose one is good, but really expensive, too. I know Athena and Klipsch both make ones that sound really nice, too.
  19. That's a good point. Maybe the police officer noticed that point and figured the car must be stolen.
  20. Lackey is going to be the prize of the off-season, which is why I expect him to go to the Yankees or another big market team. Beyond that it's a lot of mediocre guys...the good part may be that Suppan-esque contracts won't have to be given out. The market should be depressed like it was last season.
  21. Doumit would be a nice guy to target if they decide Lucroy or Salome won't be ready by next year. I hope and think that Melvin knows Kendall should not be a viable option as the starting catcher next year.
  22. We didn't just lose Hardy in this deal, we also lost Cameron. We lost 2 players that were 14.8 Wins Above Replacement the last 2 years. Thats huge. Yeah, but what would they do next year? I can't believe how attached some are on this site to Cameron and Hardy. Hardy was a very good player at times, but pretty bad and disappointing last year. What's to say he won't be as bad next year? Cameron is aging, and IMHO, lost a step last year. What's to say he won't continue to decline next year? Bottom line is you can't draw a fair comparison because Escobar and Gomez both do not have anywhere near enough MLB playing time to draw an accurate ivew.
  23. If you go back, I think there were only one or two posters who actually really hated it. Almost overwhelmingly people supported it.
  24. Also, I don't know if this was mentioned...but Doug Melvin was on WSSP a couple hours ago, and made some very interesting comments. He mentioned that they have been extremely impressed with Lucroy and see him as a possible option for the MLB roster next year, citing guys like Russel Martin who jumped to "the bigs" without stints in AAA. So all the people who are convinced he will bring Kendall back and have half a lineup full of weak hitters should maybe take some pause.
  25. I am surprised how many people on this site of all places are downplaying Gomez. He's only 23 and has barely even had 1000 MLB at bats. He might flame out, but it's not like he's expensive right now. I am just surprised that so many of the same people who used to value youth and upside now seem like they would have rather hung onto an extra SS and an aging (and likely to decline) CF who is also expensive.
