So we didn't find out by the end if Dunder-Mifflin was going bankrupt? Eh, other than that, I thought the show was great again. I guess I'm an easy to please Office fan, though.
It was the same thing last year with him though...constantly calling for Ben Sheets to get signed. He's been warned about spamming the board with the same opinion over and over before.
Braun/Fielder/Bay would be a pretty scary threesome in the middle of the order, that's for sure. I don't think the Brewers have any shot at either Bay or Holliday though.
I agree. I would not want to pay him big money to be a platoon/bench guy, but Lopez was tremendous for us. Every time he was interviewed (granted only a handful of times that I saw) he seemed like he was humble and just wanted the team to win. I don't really care about a guy's rep that much if he plays well. Lopez did all you could ask as a player.
This seems like the last year the payroll should be so constricted for a while. I think Mark Attanasio has been a tremendous owner, but I would hope if only a few million stand in the way of acquiring a pitcher like Lackey, he would give the go ahead to increase the payroll for 2010 a bit, realizing he'll get it back in 2011, more than likely.
From Brewers.com: After batting .320 with 32 home runs and 114 RBIs, Braun became the first Brewer since Paul Molitor, more than two decades ago, to win a Silver Slugger Award in consecutive years. Since 1980, the awards have been given annually to the best offensive player at each position as selected by the Major League Baseball managers and coaches. Braun is a tremendous talent and we're lucky to have him. I'm glad he's continuing to get recognition around the league.
John Buck isn't a name I'd heard yet. I think it would be worth a look at least. I'm not sure if I see the Brewers carrying three catchers on the Major League roster, though. Maybe they could start Lucroy at AAA and call him up around June or July if he's playing well.
I'm not saying he's not going to make money on his new book, but I doubt he's really hard up for cash at this point in his career. It's not like he's Jose Canseco or something.
Supposedly players had always complained about it, but now that the team is actually good, the players were a bit more vocal about it and it got more attention.
Wang used to be very good. How severe were his injury issues this year? They must be significant if the Yankees are thinking of just cutting him loose.
Here's an interesting name someone just raised on the JSOnline blog: Brad Ausmus. Granted he's around 40, but he was only paid $1 million last year. I think they could do much worse if they want a veteran to backup either Lucroy or Salome. He hit around .300 in only about 100 ABs this past year.
Remainder of Zito's contract, per Cot's: 10:$18.5M, 11:$18.5M, 12:$19M, 13:$20M, 14:$18M club option ($7M buyout) Those numbers are obscene. I can't believe SF would be willing to eat enough of that to make it worth the while for the Brewers.
What use would the Phillies really have for Lawrie? Don't they have a pretty good second baseman already? Yeah, that Utley guy, the one signed through 2013...
Not really, it was just something that someone on here "heard" and everyone ran with it. Haudricourt quoted Melvin as saying that he was offered "relief pitchers but not starters" for Hardy, so I would think that would shoot the Harang rumor down.
I like this plan a lot. You'd still have Suppan (I assume) in the bullpen and to use as a 6th starter. I think Philly would be getting a nice package for a pitcher with two years of control left, but we wouldn't be selling off the entire farm either.
This would be the kind of high impact trade Doug Melvin should be looking to made. He would have to give up some good players, but probably not sell the whole farm off. Cole Hamels would instantly make the rotation significantly better, and probably help put a lot of butts in seats at Miller Park, too.
Yeah, sounds like they don't have too much payroll flexibility after all. Says they're already at about a $78 million projected payroll. Hard not to be pessimistic with quotes like that.
You never know. You seem to be discounting that McGehee had a great season at the MLB level, while Gamel was pretty nondescript. He also stunk when he got sent back down to AAA. That could send up red flags, speaking of those, with some teams. I agree that Gamel still probably has the higher value, but it may not be as high as some here think.
