  1. Maybe it's "2nd Place or Bust" at this point?
  2. I'm sick of seeing this team spend so much money on losers like Looper. May as well just take that $5.5 million and flush it down the toilet. I'm starting to think I won't be renewing our 9 pack plan if most of these "moves" come to fruition.
  3. Hoffman gets save #35 on the year...only 11 away from the magic 600 mark.
  4. Great job by Narveson. Hopefully he gets at least one more start this season and continues pitching well. Would be refreshing to have a AAA call up step it up as a starter.
  5. Personally I'm holding out hope that one of them does well in spring training and makes the big league club, though I realize that is unlikely.
  6. Great fact heard on the radio today: Of current active Brewers starting pitchers (ie. not Gallardo who is shut down), Jeff Suppan has the lowest ERA. That's pretty telling right there.
  7. True. And the fact is the Brewers won't have the resources (salary flexibility and trading chips) to completely overhaul the rotation, which is what you'd be doing if you let both Looper and Bush go. Bush, when healthy, is an OK middle of the rotation type guy. Looper is the one who should go. Like I said before, I would like to see Melvin let Cameron, Kendall, Looper, Weathers, etc. go, and use that flexibility to get a real #1/2 type pitcher so Gallardo doesn't have to carry the load himself again next year.
  8. The plan seems to be to try and win as many games before the end of the season (even though the pitching is horrid and we were officially eliminated from the post-season last night). I don't think it's a particularly good or logical plan at this point. With so few home games left, they may as well play the young guys to see what they have with them.
  9. I didn't know where to put this. I thought there used to be a buy-sell-trade section here. There is a Trading Post. You have to be logged in to see it, though.
  10. They're not going to trade Fielder and basically blow up their offense for next season. Attanasio was pretty adamant about that last week. Fielder is going to be the Brewers starting 1B next season.
  11. If Blanco can be obtained cheaply (though who knows if some other team might want him?) I'd be fine with that, too.
  12. Good lord, this team is sleep walking right now.
  13. I think you stick with a stopgap for next season until one of the young prospects is ready to play behind the dish. I would stick with Rivera, or worst case, bring Kendall back on the cheap. I would sure as hell make sure Macha knows that Kendall won't be starting more than 50% of the games, though.
  14. Well said derflotr. Though to a point, I think Counsell has shown he can still play, and there would be no shame using him sparingly the rest of the year. I think he's earned himself a chance to return next season if he wishes to. I assume he'll be relatively affordable for the hometown team again.
  15. I wonder if Gamel's attitude or seeming problems during spring training have carried over this late in the season? It just seems like there has to be more going on then "Macha just doesn't want to play him."
  16. Good stuff to know. The wife and I are leaning on trying to go towards the end of March (her spring break starts officially on March 20th), so it sounds like that would be great.
  17. Oh, don't get me wrong...I think you have to look at him as part of the rotation for next year. I'm just saying that if 2010 is a repeat of '09 for him, you have to probably think about cutting your losses with him. And I've been far from the Rickie Weeks fan wagon for a long time.
  18. - Win the series against the Cubs. I know it doesn't matter, but they should be fairly demoralized and we're playing at Miller Park. Beat them, and maybe take 2nd place before the end of the season. - Finish at .500 or better if possible. The draft is such a crap shoot that I don't think moving a spot or two up or down is going to make a big difference. I'd rather feel good about the season despite all the adversity than chalk up another losing one on the franchise record. - Play the young guys as much as possible. This includes Casey McGehee, who should get some consideration in the ROY voting. - Have the pitchers focus on not giving up as many home runs. OK, this may be impossible, but should be an expectation going forward. - Announce very soon after the season ends that Trevor Hoffman has been signed to an extension (so technically not in the next two weeks, but it would be a nice morale boost for the fan base). I would also like to see Hoffman get as close to 40 saves as possible.
  19. If Parra maintains his overall performance from this season, he should probably be moved to the bullpen or DFAed.
  20. Read a quote on MLB Trade Rumors that the Cubs realize they will have to eat probably 80-90% of Bradley's salary in order to move him, so they're apparently not naive to his low value right now.
  21. Haven't seen the "Blood on your hands" spot, but the one with the yuppie looking couple getting pulled over, and the guy "failing the field sobriety test" that got played ad nauseum recently was pretty annoying. Along the same vein, the radio PSA with the couple that gets in a car wreck where the guy seems to die at the end of the ad grates on me. Do they think people really want to hear that during a baseball game?
  22. Cardinals won. We're eliminated from the division race. *sniff*
  23. Suppan still has some value if he's not hurt, but I kind of hope the Brewers don't guarantee him a rotation spot next year. If they can find five SPs better than him, he should start the year in the bullpen.
  24. Butler reminds me of Turnbow in both his appearance and "What's going to happen with his next pitch?" factor.
  25. I think tonight is a pretty good one to put in the column for argument against bringing Looper back next year.
