  1. Yeah, I don't put a lot of stock in UZR to begin with. Isn't that stat supposed to take like 2000 starts to accurately measure? (I could be thinking of a different stat).
  2. I'm kind of tired of the Braun bashing. He does a serviceable job out there. Is he gold glove caliber? No, of course not. But the fact is he is decent enough and not a liability. Ignored in all of this discussion is that all of his other tools more than make up for his slightly sub-par glove. Let's not forget this is only his second season in the outfield, and he's still fairly young. He'll continue to get better.
  3. The Lopez trade was a good one, and it's an entirely separate issue from the pitching. I doubt either of the guys traded were going to pull much back in the way of starting pitching in a trade.
  4. It's not a bad idea, but I'd rather not see a valuable piece like Gamel traded for an "OK" catcher. If you're going to trade Gamel, it has to be for a starting pitcher.
  5. Dumb question, but because I was too young to remember: Was the Bernie in the early '80s still just a guy in lederhosen, or was it someone in a costume similar to what we have now?
  6. Seems like it's always the same three or four guys in the resale area. Which reminds me of a story only slightly off topic: A few weeks back, my wife and I had four tickets to our usual seats in the loge level. This was a Saturday night game, and we were unable to find anyone else to come with. I figured I would sell the two extras to one of the dudes in the resale area, like I've done in the past. Well, it was a slow night, and the most one guy would give me was $20 for the pair. Face value on these is over $35.00 each. I said I wanted $30.00 for the pair. Waited around for a while, and no one was buying at all. So the wife and I started to walk away and the guy is like "Aren't you going to sell me your tickets?" I said "I'd rather give them away for free than sell them to you for $20.00." Ended up running into another "reseller" who traded us two club level tickets right behind home plate and threw us an extra $20.00 for our four loge tickets. Made for a fun night, as we had never sat in the club level before.
  7. I'm thinking that theory is correct. It seems like the people who come to Miller Park are there not to cheer the Cubs, but many are there to boo the Brewers or just generally make fools of themselves. I suspect the way this season has gone may have mellowed out some of the more boisterous Cubs fans, too.
  8. I guess that is a good way to look at it. But then if Sheets is not ready or does not pitch close to his former self, it could be a total disaster.
  9. Yeah, the Brewers aren't the kind of team who can afford to risk paying $7 million for a guy who hasn't pitched in a year. I'm guessing he still ends up with the Rangers or maybe the Astros (Oswalt is on the DL again and they may be looking for pitching help for next year).
  10. I'm all for bringing Bush back and not Looper (if it's a choice between the two). Barring some kind of unforeseeable trade, it's a forgone conclusion that Gallardo, Bush, Parra, and Suppan will be in the rotation to start next season. That leaves one spot to improve the starting pitching, realistically. I would like to see the Brewers save a good chunk of salary by not bringing back guys like Looper, Cameron, & Kendall, and go out and get a real #1/2 type starter, either through trade or FA signing. We have to remember that Suppan still makes a ton of money next year, they will still be paying a good chunk of Bill Hall's salary, and who knows what we have in Riske. Fielder's salary goes up, and others are due for raises, I believe. We can't waste money on a very mediocre starter like Looper if we hope to improve the rotation at all.
  11. Braun grades out below average in LF the place where Lee, Dunn, and Ramirez play. He shouldn't be moved. I don't get it. Are you saying he's worse than those three? I would disagree.
  12. I don't get it. Are these jerseys actual NFL/MLB licensed merchandise, or "knock offs"? Someone a while ago on this site got banned for selling people knock off MLB jerseys from China (or somewhere like that) that were clearly inferior imitations. Just FYI.
  13. They are doing two games against the Tigers at Miller Park, yes.
  14. I liked last night's episode more than most, I guess. Jim's suggestion of how Andy could figure out which was he goes had me in stitches. "Community" was kind of a let down after all the hype. Chevy Chase seems to be playing a character that doesn't really fit him all that much, and all the other characters seemed really generic (other than the guy who kept cribbing from '80s movies, I guess). Maybe the next episodes will be better, because this show as it stands won't have me bothering to DVR it.
  15. Gerut is arby eligible in '10 and '11. I think Gerut has been a bit undersold around here. I think he would be an OK option in CF for a year, until Cain or someone else is ready.
  16. I think he could do it, but if you're going to move someone to CF, Hart or Weeks seem like more logical choices.
  17. Well, supposedly they keep talking about a major remodel of Wrigley, but with the ownership change, who knows what the timetable is on that.
  18. Yes, and I assume he's maybe playing winter ball this year? He could be up by 2011. Maybe he's even a September call up next season. We have to remember the situation with Weeks...it's not a forgone conclusion he'll be able to play well next year, or make it through a whole season.
  19. Yeah, some people don't grasp the concept that their personal finances are their own responsibility, not a business or other person's.
  20. Wow, that's bizarre. Have they said what the reasoning was? I heard Uecker joking about how much Bradley "loves" the Cubs fans earlier. Amusing stuff.
  21. it's ridiculous to just settle for $6M of mediocrity. I agree with that 100%, and that's what I was getting at earlier. If he'd come back for like $2-3 million, I'd be fine with that, otherwise let him walk. I mean, can't a guy like Chris Cody or Narveson replace him and give similar production? This team needs to save money any way they can to pay for actual good pitching, and paying $6 million to Looper would hinder that enough.
  22. Wells struggling early. Hope the Brewers can take advantage. Gamel pops up to kill the inning. Darn it. Having a bat in his hands and standing in a real live batter's box was probably an almost new sensation for him...
  23. I know an out is an out, but at least a flyout puts the ball in play with a chance to make something happen...a strike out doesn't give you any kind of opportunity at all. There's the difference.
  24. Sorry, no fancy graphics from me. Lineup, from Haudricourt: 2B Felipe Lopez RF Jody Gerut LF Ryan Braun 1B Prince Fielder CF Mike Cameron 3B Mat Gamel C Mike Rivera SS Alcides Escobar RHP Dave Bush Note that Mat Gamel is getting his first start since returning, and Escobar is playing again after a 4 hit game last night. "Mighty" Mike Rivera also getting the nod behind the plate. Game is on FSN and the Brewers Radio Network.
  25. It's sounding like the idea of trading Fielder this off-season is basically a non-starter for Melvin and Attanasio, given recent comments. I would definitely look at Granderson, but I would probably look to trading their excess of outfielders and hot corner guys for him, not Fielder.
