  1. OK, we get it...you hate Melvin and think he's the anti-christ. You think the Brewers are going to suck for the next ten years. Maybe you could curb the hyperbole a bit. "Hardy has sucked this year." Yeah, so Melvin did something about it. What's the problem again?
  2. I don't get why Hardy moving to 3B keeps getting brought up...sure, I guess it was a possible option, but it's not like we haven't gotten great production from McGehee and Counsell over there. Plus that would have blocked Gamel down the road. As far as "shadenfreude", I don't think anyone genuinely hates Hardy or wants him to fail...it's just his season has been quite disappointing, as noted, and people were tired of seeing him struggle. I would personally be happy for him if he turns his career around and becomes productive again, but it may as well be with a new team at this point. Kind of like the situation with Bill Hall.
  3. Hardy was the shortstop this year. Escobar wasn't ready this season. Exactly. People forget Escobar is only 22 and had barely played in AAA at all before this season. If the team had traded Hardy and Escobar struggled with the Brewers, the same people would be complaining about Melvin retaining the wrong shortstop and "rushing him too early, wasting service time," etc.
  4. I got 45, which I'm reasonably satisfied with.
  5. How so? Maybe based on time under contract remaining, but Parra isn't looking like the premier young pitcher he was hyped to be. Dunn is basically guaranteed to put up 40 homers and have an OBP around .375 every single year. Yeah, his defense sucks, but you can work around that. I'd rather trade for Dunn only if we're keeping Fielder, though. If you trade Fielder, I'd rather look for a younger, more long term, option.
  6. I think the Davis trade was a solid gamble...they tried to upgrade the catching position, it just didn't work out. I know some were hesitant about Estrada, but I don't think anyone knew how relatively lousy he'd be that year.
  7. FYI, Hardy is in the lineup tonight, Escobar is not. Hardy is batting 8th.
  8. The Brewer won't be able to pay a veteran like Cameron a lot of money next year if they want to get serious about improving their pitching and other areas. They will probably go with younger and cheaper internal options.
  9. JJ was sent down on a date when it would be exactly 20 days at September call-ups time It goes both ways. It can be argued they gave him as much time as possible to turn his season around, before deciding they wanted to get the most value they could salvage from their investment.
  10. First, maybe this is nitpicking, but I think there's a big difference between getting "buff" and getting "cut". Some interesting comments in this thread. Just to point out, the only way to actually get "cut" is to drop your body fat percentage. Muscle is muscle...there's no difference between a "buff" muscle and a "cut" muscle, other than the fact that the person who is more "cut up looking" probably has a lower body fat percentage, so there is less fat covering the muscle.
  11. This move was solely designed to screw Hardy on behalf of some unknown trading partner. Trade maybe, yes...but this idea that the Brewers screwed over Hardy is beyond belief to me. Some people on here seem to think the Brewers need to hand hold and coddle every single player in their system, no matter if it's a stud prospect or a perennial journeyman. Sometimes players have to be held accountable for their poor play. That's what the Brewers did. The fact that they gain an extra year of service time (after playing him earlier in his career than was maybe justified by his level of play at the time) is just making a good business decision out of a negative circumstance. Players leave for free agency and play hardball with contracts all the time, and it's "just business." A team puts an under performing player in AAA and gains one extra year of service time (again, after calling him up early in his career and starting his arbitration clock early), and suddenly it's a "screw job." Give me a break.
  12. http://www.jsonline.com/blogs/sports/56430412.html?c=y&commentSubmitted=y Fresh comments from Hardy, via Witrado: "It's been simmering. There are questions in my mind," Hardy said. "The more and more I think about it, the more I think, 'Why would they do this to me?' "It beat me up inside. For them to give up on me this year, it kinda hurt. I definitely feel like I was being punished."
  13. Yeah, if they do trade him, about the best they can hope for at this late hour is probably a mid-level pitching prospect, and even that might be stretching it.
  14. A team would have to complete a deal for him today in order for him to be eligible for the post-season, right? (Yeah, the article on MLB Trade Rumors confirms that). The Brewers do have options for next year...obviously Gerut, but Jason Bourgeois, and Corey Patterson (yeah, I know, I know...). Maybe Weeks could be a possibility too if the team retains Lopez and wants to get experimental, and then you have Lorenzo Cain as a further possibility down the line.
  15. I think the thing to remember with all these stats, like others have pointed out, is it's OK to use them as a guidelines or reference. I think when you start using them as hard and fast rules, and dismiss anyone who thinks otherwise, is when the issues come in.
  16. I don't know if they can even do this, but it would be awesome if they would just start printing up random ex-Brewers uni t-shirts to sell. I mean, who wouldn't pay $25 or so for a "Crim" or "Robideaux" t-shirt?
  17. I remember a few weeks back when we had a couple days in the 90's, people were complaining then, too. I think people just like to complain about the weather in general. Usually for me, anywhere between about 55 and 85 is OK. So I've thought this summer has been good, overall.
  18. I'd be fine with trading for Kennedy, I just wouldn't want to give up a ton to get him. He's one of those guys who has been overhyped because he plays in New York. Then again we said the same thing about Melky last off-season, and he's had a very nice season, so who knows?
  19. Hey, if we can sweep the Cardinals the rest of the season...you never know.
  20. That is fair, I think. I would safely say, from watching the games, Hardy is probably above average defensively, though I think he may have slipped a bit this season (not saying he's horrible here). Escobar could be the superior defensive player, but it's too soon to tell. I mean, it's unfair to compare a 22 year old player to one who's 27 or so (too lazy to look up their exact ages).
  21. That is valid...none of those guys were going to likely contribute this year. However, Jeffress maybe could have provided trade ammo if he could control his personal choices.
  22. I would love to see them retain Lopez at this point and maybe try Weeks in center. I believe he played there in the past.
  23. I know the reasoning behind it. I guess I think it just looks goofty, especially for a rather stout looking guy like him with the longer hair that he used to have.
  24. "Our young pitching is years away and Prince probably won't be here when it finally does arrive if at all. " This is the big issue I have at this point. While I would hate to see Prince traded, and hold out a small glimmer of hope that he might be retained past 2011, the fact is he will likely be gone by then, one way or another. I think if you can get some quality young pitching for him, it is worth considering. Unfortunately, I do not think that fits Melvin's M.O. at all. Sometimes a team like the Brewers, without big market monetary resources, has to be more aggressive. That often means trading marquee fan favorite types earlier than many fans woudl like. The Twins learned that the hard way...it would be nice to see Melvin maybe learn from them.
  25. The thing that gets me is flat out saying "JJ was worth $22.2 million last year." That is just flat out wrong from a real world standpoint, because there isn't a team out there that would pay him that much on an annual basis, as has been pointed out and gone unrefuted. Maybe instead of saying "worth X dollars", you could say "worth X fantasy baseball currency points" and it might have some merit.
