  1. If he is going to be furious, he should be most angry at himself for playing so poorly in 2009.
  2. He could be an OK option as a backup next year, I guess.
  3. Keeping Hardy over Escobar makes no sense at this point, at least from a business standpoint...if people really feel Escobar is not going to be at least a solid shortstop in the majors, then we've been sold a false bill of goods. I also agree they should learn the lessons from keeping Hall and others too long, and trade Hardy this off-season when they can...after ensuring an extra year of team control. Two years of JJ Hardy will have some real value to several teams, I have to believe. They have to flip guys like Hardy to fill other needs, since signing through free agency usually is not feasible for a team like Milwaukee.
  4. It seems like young players almost always struggle with their defense a bit when they arrive in the majors...especially infielders. I'm not worried too much. I'm just so glad I don't have to watch JJ "battle" out there anymore.
  5. Maybe the Pick & Save employees are being told to go online and help drum up business or something? Weird.
  6. I kind of like Catalanotto batting second. I agree they need to get Yovani a win and take the series.
  7. Thanks for the laugh, GAME05.
  8. 2011 could be a big year for MLB pitching again if some of these guys can keep making progress.
  9. I agree with Stevo. I'm surprised so many are so tolerant of Looper, especially given how much Suppan is vilified on this same site. I'd rather try someone else next season...if they do bring Looper back at all, it should be for a very cheap amount, not $6 million or something. $1 or 2 million at most would be much more in line with his performance.
  10. I really hope they leave him down there. The Brewers should hold JJ accountable for his poor play (both in MLB and so far at AAA) and leave him down there as long as possible. It would be nice for them to get some extra value out of him, in order to help facilitate a trade in the off-season.
  11. That's great to hear about Alcides' ball. There really are a lot of good Brewers fans out there. I agree there has been a lot of negativity on here of late, but that is sort of to be expected when a team nosedives like this one has. At least it should be a very interesting off-season, like some have alluded to. I expect some big changes to happen in regards to the Brewers.
  12. I really hope Doug Melvin does the right thing and leaves him down there. If he calls JJ back up early for any reason, I will be extremely disappointed.
  13. Spend a bit of the extra money they should have accumulated from selling over 6 million tickets in two seasons, and signing a new TV contract?
  14. the other is it's like the plane crash that you just can't turn away from This is exactly what I've been telling myself lately, when I find myself tuning into the games religiously, yet.
  15. Just got a tweet from MLB Trade Rumors that Harang is done for the year after an emergency appendectomy (what are the odds of that?). Guess I'm glad they didn't trade for him now.
  16. They can always go public with their offer after doing the trade.
  17. Yes, but Escobar will be much cheaper than Hardy for the next couple years.
  18. Well, I think if Melvin had thought Suppan was such a horrible idea, he could have convinced Attanasio. At the time, though, the Brewers were coming off a season where Sheets and Ohka had both been on the DL for significant lengths of time, and we had guys like Wes Obermueller starting. It made sense to do the signing at the time, though in retrospect it's obvious they probably should have gone for someone cheaper, despite the "durability" issue.
  19. Hope this is the "good Burns" we saw last time on the mound.
  20. I think there's about zero chance the Nats have him pitch yet this season...unless I've completely missed something.
  21. This is a great point...and while it goes against what I said earlier, may make them keep McGehee around as insurance.
  22. Do we have any idea if Prince had a real chance to turn down the $60 million offer the Brewers made, or did Boras just say "no go?" Negotiations go through the agent and not the player, after all.
  23. I don't think either McGehee or Gamel have gotten enough starts in MLB this season to really determine how good or bad either of them are defensively. I think both have shown they can at least be adequate.
  24. One thing Fielder should consider...in Milwaukee, and Wisconsin as a whole, he could basically be a god for years to come. He and Braun would be like Molitor and Yount were in this state in the '80s and early '90s. Somewhere like Boston or New York, he'd just be another very good player on a team full of All-Stars. There would also be much more media scrutiny...if he thought the comments last year about his weight were bad, imagine what the New York media would do to him if he ever showed up to spring training looking a bit puffy. I know he probably won't stay long term, but none of us know what's in his heart, either. Maybe he really likes playing here and would like the opportunity to stay as a center piece of the team, rather than just a role player like he would be with the Yankees or Red Sox. He also seems to have a connection with Ryan Braun, who is obviously going to be here for a long time yet. Maybe that will help the Brewers keep him.
  25. Good for him. He'll probably have an opportunity to start next season if he puts up decent numbers through the end of this season.
