  1. This is actually more along the lines of what I meant when I made that initial post. I was being a bit facetious when I asked if I was being a bad person. Maybe I was just frustrated by the Brewers getting swept this past weekend and was having a bit of fun when I posted, I guess. Anyway, there's no way I say Sabathia should not have taken the contract the Yankees gave him. $60 million is a huge difference in potential contracts, and a ton of money. I don't fault him for taking it. I'm not going to cheer for someone in the pinstripes, though. I do feel what the Yankees did this past off-season is somewhat bad for baseball as a whole, and I'd like to see them suffer for their free wheeling spending. I do appreciate what CC did for the Brewers (that last day of the season was probably one of the happiest days of my life), but that's done now and if he's going to play for the Evil Empire, I'll wish him well personally, but hope the Yankees continue to fail spectacularly. That's all.
  2. I can't imagine they're keeping him around to ride the bench. I think all the Gamel fanatics should be pleased right now. I am as well, as I see no reason why he should go down to AAA after the positive signs he's shown at the plate lately.
  3. http://newyork.yankees.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20090621&content_id=5456002&vkey=news_nyy&fext=.jsp&c_id=nyy Does it make me a bad person that I'm now hoping CC crashes and burns in New York? As much as I loved him when he was with the Brewers, I find myself salivating at the thought of an extended DL stint for the guy.
  4. Thank goodness this team is coming back home. We're no longer in first place, and it's not time to be complacent anymore. It's too bad Gallardo's nice outing was wasted, though.
  5. Yeah, I don't get that one either. I won't criticize Macha since maybe he knows something we don't...and at any rate, the lineup is basically the least of my concerns after how horrible our pitching has been of late.
  6. Why are we talking about revisionist draft scenarios from five years ago? It doesn't affect or help the current situation, which is looking to be that the Brewers only have 3 starting pitchers on their Major League roster right now.
  7. Well, in terms of Escobar I think they are clearly just thinking toward the near future. It seems inevitable that Hardy will hit FA and get signed by some team like the Yankees who will be willing to overpay for his services. They need Escobar to fill the inevitable hole that will develop at SS. I just don't see Melvin trading him and relying on a lesser prospect to fill that gap.
  8. If you want to hear the voice of the typical fan that seems to permeate around the greater Milwaukee area, listen to Sparky on WSSP.
  9. I think Suppan has done about what could be reasonably expected lately. He's not really the major problem right now...he's pitching like the #5 pitcher we expected. The problem is we have a very young and relatively inexperienced #1, along with three #5 pitchers at this point. With Bush possibly going to the DL, we're really left with three viable starting pitchers. I guess we can look forward to Seth McClung leaving the bullpen or something, with how it seems like Doug Melvin is just sitting on his hands in regard to this problem.
  10. Like who? I hear this proffered all the time, but no one suggests any pitcher who was on the market who was actually any better than Looper, that the Brewers had a realistic chance to sign.
  11. From MLB Trade Rumors: "He might have worked out at a different time," said Brewers GM Doug Melvin. "We don't know that. All I know from our people is he wasn't' there when we were told to be. ... I don't know what the demands are, but it doesn't matter what they are. If you can't watch him throw, it doesn't matter what his demands are. Would you go put an offer on a house without looking at the house?"
  12. It's been obvious this team was going to need another (good) starting pitcher from the get-go. I wish they would have just gotten one before the season started, but of course that wasn't going to happen for whatever financial reasons. Now this team is in a desperate bind for a starting pitcher, and if Bedard is the only decent option available, that's fine with me. In the meantime, I would give guys like Dillard and Burns a chance.
  13. What? Really? Not one of my favorites, but I wouldn't say it's horrible or anything. I like the Cure quite a bit, though.
  14. I think Melvin has been looking, but the cupboards are looking pretty bare.
  15. Yeah, everyone seemed somewhat optimistic when he came to Milwaukee, but he hasn't done much with his opportunities.
  16. Anyone else not getting the game in HD even though it's on an HD channel?
  17. Braddock doesn't seem to get talked about a lot, for whatever reason. I think this organization has more quality pitching in the minors than people realize, but the problem is most of the guys are still a year or two away from the majors. Also, "George of the Rose" is pretty funny.
  18. Hopefully the Brewers will be hungry for a win after it seemed like the game yesterday was completely out of their hands. I know they seem to usually fair poorly on national TV and against debuting starters, but it would be nice to continue the momentum they had against the Indians and get a win here.
  19. MLB Trade Rumors says several teams walked away from Martinez's session yesterday "unimpressed". That's pretty telling as to what he would offer in terms of performance at this point, I think.
  20. I'd say at least 8 games back or so in this division. They're only 3 back now, so I wouldn't count on them being sellers anytime soon.
  21. Well, first of all no one even knows if Sheets will even be back this season. Secondly it seems like he hates the Brewers at this point. Thirdly, it seems like it's a forgone conclusion that he'll sign with the Rangers when he finally is healthy. So I wouldn't bet on him ever playing for the Brewers again. The Ben Sheets as a Brewer ship has sailed. Time to let it go.
  22. Well, Gallardo's comeback last season was pretty much unprecendented. Hoping for the same type of thing to happen two years in a row is probably being a bit over-reaching at this point. Everything reported on Capuano so far this season has seemed to be pretty pessimistic. Capuano is probably just hoping to make it back to the majors at some point in the future, let alone pitch this year. As far as Pedro, it's been reported that the Yankees won't be pursuing him, and the Cubs probably won't either because of their transitioning ownership situation, so it seems like the potential suitors for him are falling away.
  23. I don't see why we should have to give up so much for a half season rental of a guy who is injury prone, and while a great pitcher, not like he's on the level of a Sabathia or something.
  24. Yeah...we lucked out having Gallardo step up so far this year. I asked before the season how the Brewers could put so much trust in too young inexperienced starters like Parra and Gallardo. Gallardo has done his part so far, but Parra was the exact opposite. It seems like Melvin was planning or hoping to make a trade again that may not materialize due to the lack of available starting pitching around the majors.
