  1. I like the Dye idea, though he isn't cheap even as a rental (I think we'd have to pay him like $5 or 6 million yet this year, and he has a buyout for next season around $1 million). Doing something with the Royals is also interesting, but I don't think the Brewers would want to take on Meche's contract (assuming Melvin would try to get pitching in a deal with them). DeJesus would be an OK option, even if he's not really exciting. He's only hitting .246 right now, but that's low for him, and he'll likely raise that average before the season is done.
  2. Yeah, not to be judgmental of bikers (I don't own a bike and probably never will, just not my thing), but I shake my head every time I see some biker splitting through two lane traffic like that. It's usually a younger guy on a crotch rocket with no helmet or leathers, too.
  3. In retrospect that may have been for the best considering how '06 ended being a "mulligan year", with all the injuries the team suffered. However, I don't think anyone could have reasonably predicted Branyan would have the kind of year he's had so far, either.
  4. I agree. So Burns' next start will be Tuesday against Johan Santana? Eck... If Santanta is still getting the run "support" he was getting earlier in the season, I look forward to the Brewers winning 2-1.
  5. I wrote this in the latest IGT, but thought it would be relevant to this discussion, so I'm re-posting it here: I do think the "post patrolling" has gotten a bit out of hand around here lately. Not just in the IGT, but in general on this forum. If people really think some of the "one liners" or off hand comments are bad here, I don't think they frequent too many message boards on the internet. I think there can be a certain level of leniency on this forum without things devolving into being like the JSOnline blog. I guess I think maybe people should just scroll past the posts they don't like without feeling to make a comment about how it's "out of line" or whatever. If it becomes a consistent problem, then it can and should be handled, but I don't think people should have to walk on egg shells in order to post around here, either.

  7. "All Summer Long" by Kid Rock is pretty annoying along those same lines. I know Rock is friends with Lynyrd Skynyrd and whatever, but the over the top "tribute" song is a bit much.
  8. I guess I don't get why there seems to be this mini-fervor for UW-Madison to bring back it's baseball team. Yeah, it would be "nice" for them to have it...but beyond the logistical and financial issues already pointed out, I just wonder if there would really be much demand as far as people actually attending these games. You already have the Mallards in Madison that seem to draw well, and if people want to see pro baseball, it's not like Milwaukee is that big of a drive from Madison. UW-Milwaukee seems to do all right with their baseball team, so I think that is sort of filling any void left by Madison not having a team.
  9. I was at this game, and was pretty much behind home plate in the second row (my dad had these great seats as extras, go figure). FWIW, Burns appeared to be getting squeezed quite a bit the whole game. Braun also seemed like he got a raw deal on that last strike out. It did seem to be a weird and inconsistent strike zone the whole game.
  10. After attending yesterday's loss to the Twins, I got to thinking. I realize this team's pitching situation is in shambles right now, and that if a move is going to be made, it will likely be for another starting pitcher. However, looking at the Brewers' current lineup, does anyone else think they could really use a legitimate #5 type hitter? The offense seems to mostly be the Braun & Prince Show, with contributions from Counsell and McGehee. Gamel is intriguing, but being a rookie we don't really know what we have there yet. Hart, Cameron, and Hardy have been scuffling, Hall is probably benched for the most part, and Kendall is what we pretty much expected. I just wonder if Melvin might not make a move for someone to give Fielder some real lineup protection. I doubt we'll land a Matt Holliday or Adam Dunn, but could there be someone out there Melvin could get for a relatively cheap price that might boost the lineup a bit?
  11. Lots of comments from the likes of Drew Olson and Tom Haudricourt, as well as plenty of anecdotal evidence.
  12. No, but it would definitely be nice to play well against them and stay ahead in the standings. I think a lot could change with the Brewers' pitching staff in the next few days.
  13. Does it really physically hurt you to read "one line" posts like that? It's not even like those are the cliche "I agree" or "+1" type posts that I see on lots of other internet forums.
  14. Baseball games are supposed to be played with some intensity, and occasionally an athlete is going to go over the line just a little bit, due to the testosterone flowing, and the excitement of the game. I can't see sitting here and judging them for something so minor.
  15. I hate those stupid banner ads that are all over the internet these days advertising "Obama stimulus check for school!" or something deceptive like that, and have an animated woman dancing like Elaine Benes. Does anyone seriously click those things?
  16. "Brown Eyed Girl" is nowhere close to even being a bad song. "Overplayed" does not equal "bad".
  17. Yep, I'd love to see a third team in NY/NJ, though I'm sure Steinbrenner and company would never allow it.
  18. I believe you are reading that article wrong, I think he is saying that Kendall's defense has been subpar. Yeah, you're right. I guess all the more reason to give Salome a try sooner than later.
  19. Well, the issue with Salome is that if his defense is subpar at AAA, how is he going to handle being behind the plate in the majors? People were screaming for Rivera to get more starts, but when people started to see that, yes, defense does matter, that talk got quiet pretty quick. This team does need to start making some moves, one way or another, though. I'm tired of how Melvin seems to just be sitting on his hands with so many guys under performing, and seeing how moves desperately need to be made.
  20. I don't know if I'd be excited to replace Hart with Francoeur at this point...especially since Hart has been hitting pretty well lately.
  21. What's disappointing to me especially, is that if you were reading between the lines around here, if he hadn't gone on the DL, it was sounding like a solid bet that Jake Peavy would be in a Brewers uniform right now. A move like that would have already changed the complexion of this entire season.
  22. While it may have been slightly immature, what Prince did, I can understand the reasoning behind it. How would you feel if you showed up at your job and some group of people you didn't know was constantly heckling you? I bet at some point, no matter how much money you make, you would lash out a bit too.
  23. Yeah, there was a big recent topic about JJ Hardy. Not sure why JJ's bad performance means we shouldn't be talking about Hall. I didn't realize Hall's line had been that horrible since '07. That is really poor for a guy who is supposed to be an everyday player. It doesn't really matter what the lefty vs righty splits are at that point, either. He either needs to ride the bench or get sent down to AAA, or traded (we should be so lucky). I want to cheer for the guy, but his complete lack of any semblance of a good approach at the plate lately has just put me over the edge.
  24. At least JJ has been sometimes putting the ball in play. Hall is striking out at a fairly alarming rate.
  25. It makes me wonder if they have been playing him in order to hopefully show other teams he can still play decently, if a trade is possibly being talked about. I remember back in '05 Junior Spivey was getting a bunch of starts even though he was slumping, and was traded to Washington shortly after that. I can't point to any evidence that is the case, but it would be nice if there was some real justificiation for Hall's continued overuse.
