  1. As an aside, I've read that Bono wears the shades all the time because he has some kind of fairly severe light sensitivity in his eyesight. I don't know if that's true or not.
  2. Magglio Ordonez? Barry Zito? I don't know...seems like there should be someone we could do a swap with.
  3. What a disappointing game. The offense turned off, and the defense was terrible. Coupled with Suppan's lousy performance (though it wasn't entirely his fault), and the only silver lining in this one was that the bullpen continues to be solid. Oh, and maybe Macha will finally decide to quit toying with starting Bill Hall in the hopes he might jack one out once every 10 or 15 at bats or so.
  4. bobskube, it's all right. I am actually a fan of Bill Hall, due to what he's done in the past, but he is absolutely terrible right now. I just don't get how he's become so terrible at the plate. He is serving absolutely no purpose, other than maybe as a late innings defensive replacement. I can't see him succeeding even as a pinch hitter at this point.
  5. Maybe Melvin should have Macha implement his idea of having the relievers start the games, and let the "starters" close things out.
  6. Would it really be so horrible to send him to AAA at this point? I know he could refuse assignment (I think), but who really cares at this point?
  7. I don't get why Hall should be starting at all at this point. He looks completely lost at the plate, which is a shame. Just use Gamel and shuffle the other guys in as needed.
  8. It seems to be a virtual lock that he signs with the Rangers once he is actually healthy enough to pitch again (which might not even be this season). His time as a Brewer is come and gone.
  9. Burns was probably the obvious and best choice in this situation. It sounds like Bush will be out through the All Star break.
  10. Pudster, you're absolutely right. While technically speaking, selling some starss like Hardy and Fielder off now might be "smart" for the future (and even that is debatable), the Brewers would never do that at this point because the attendance, merchandise sales, etc. would all bottom out. The Brewers need the fans to keep coming in order to not only help payroll for this season, but also to pay for the stuff like scouting and other things people had been clamoring for the team to invest in before the current "renaissance" in Milwaukee.
  11. Yeah...I hate how guys like Sparky and Gary keep throwing the names of Pedro and Glavine out as possible options. I don't think they really bother to follow the current statuses of guys outside the Brewers. They seem to assume that if we signed Pedro, he would instantly revert to his classic form as well.
  12. Also of note is that as of last night, the Brewers are tied with the Giants for the NL Wild Card spot. It's been a rough stretch, but a decent home stand performance will put a lot of fan minds at ease, in my opinion. Yeah, if they tank over the next few weeks, then you think about selling...but right now they're right in the thick of the playoff hunt, which is really all you can ask for this time of year. We still have over half the schedule to play out yet.
  13. Tigers and Nats aren't very surprising (economy, and a terrible team in general, respectively). I'm not sure why the Mets are having such problems...maybe people got tired of them missing the playoffs the last couple years?
  14. Maybe the fact that the Yankees especially really jacked up their ticket prices is also having an affect?
  15. I think it will end up being at least similar to last year's numbers, just based on the figures they've already released.
  16. We had brats tonight. They were just some basic Johnsonville ones, but they were good.
  17. What a great name. In all seriousness, do we know anything about him? Is he just a Fehr crony who will have similar policies, etc?
  18. As trwi7 allued to, the latest from the horse's mouth (Doug Melvin) in regards to Pedro Martinez and the Brewers is that they didn't seem too impressed that he wasn't on time for his own workout, and that they didn't get a look at him. The other clubs did not seem impressed by what they saw, either...so I think fans and the radio media need to quit throwing his name out there as a possible option.
  19. I'd be willing to take a chance on him. Surprised he hasn't already come on with another club, to be honest.
  20. I think some people are underrating our current players a bit due to the current slumps (both pitching and hitting). Looper, Suppan, and Bush should all eventually come back to being their usual average-ish selves. If Gallardo can hold out for most of the year, and if we can either get a decent return of Manny Parra, or trade for someone a step above the formerly mentioned average three starters, I think we can still contend, possibly even winning the division in the process.
  21. I basically agree. While the past week or so has made me a bit pessimistic (mainly due to the pitching situation), we're only one and a half games out of first place right now. To throw in the towel right now would not only be short sighted, it would be a slap in the face of the millions of people who've been supporting this team since last year. The Crew is going through a rough patch right now, but I think they'll start to right the ship soon enough. I just hope that when the time comes for Melvin to make a trade, there is actually someone out there available who will make a meaningful difference for this season.
  22. brewmann, not to be a jerk, but spellcheck man, please! Anyway, you're right...it doesn't look like we're going to get any kind of legitimate #1 starter, since it's sounding like Cliff Lee is not on the table, and every other decent #1 type who may have been available is on the DL right now. If we're lucky Melvin might be able to get someone like Harden or Washburn, but I don't know if that will be enough to keep us in contention down the stretch. Hopefully the offense can keep putting up 7-10 runs a game and keep this team's head above water.
  23. I kind of hope not. It's going to take more than one good start at AAA to convince me that he's back to the point of being an acceptable major league starter.
  24. It's going to be tough. Bush or Looper will have to seriously step up quickly for us to have a chance, I think. The trade for a starting pitcher we all assumed would be possible looks to be non-existent at this point. I think assuming Gallardo would be able to pitch a whole season and be an instant replacement for Ben Sheets may have been a big mistake.
  25. Interesting, and probably the right move. I'm going to the game Thursday, so I'm interested to see who makes that start. The article notes Thursday would be Mike Burns' turn in the rotation down in Nashville, so I wouldn't be surprised if he gets called up.
