  1. Yeah, I thought it was amusing myself. Anyway it sounds like Bedard is going on the DL, so scratch him from the list. The Brewers better hope Parra straightens himself out quick at this rate.
  2. If that's the case, I expect an intense bidding war between the Marlins and Pirates for his services.
  3. Doug Melvin had the idea a while ago that they should eliminate "rounds" and just have one continuous draft. That way if they kept free agent compensation picks, you'd just get the teams first or next pick, wherever that falls (kind of like someone else alluded to earlier).
  4. Yeah, if you post a $50 million fee for one Japanese player (like in the case of Daisuke Matsuzaka), I don't think anyone would fee too sorry for that team losing a draft pick. I just don't get it. Clearly Selig knows the system is broken, and I realize his powers are probably somewhat limited as far as making changes...but everyone knows it's broken, so fix the system already so it's not so skewed to favor big market teams.
  5. He definitely did a "chop" before reaching the dugout. And the idiot fans were quite audible, especially towards the end of the game.
  6. Yeah, it would be Suppan's turn after Gallardo, and Soup is going tonight (barring rain out or something). I think Gallardo just has to suck it up right now and go again, hoping for a better outing on Sunday.
  7. I don't think anyone really thinks Sosa/McGuire/Bonds/etc didn't use steroids or HGH or whatever. I think this "slow trickle" of players being revealed is just beyond stupid. It's unfair to the players involved, and it's damaging to baseball as a whole. They should just reveal the whole list and be done with it at this point. Most fans don't even really care anymore, because we've become so numb to it, I think. Another person Jose Canseco was correct about, though.
  8. http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/9692112/Jeter-getting-better-with-age-on-defense
  9. Anyone see this new device for Xbox 360 that's coming out? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oACt9R9z37U
  10. Gamel is looking fine defensively so far at 3B, in my opinion. He'll have his hiccups, but he already looks more solid than Braun did a couple years ago. Besides, if you move Gamel to 1B, do you then try to trade for a 3B, or is there some other prospect people think will fill the gap? Otherwise it's Bill Hall back as the regular starter at third.
  11. Doesn't seem like an upgrade over anything we have now. No thanks, unless he comes with someone else who is actually good.
  12. Maybe he's always done this, but does it seem like he really dips the barrel of his bat down quite a bit when he swings? I think his swing is just a mechanical mess at this point.
  13. Anyone else remember Sosa's little episode with Rick Reilly (I think that's the guy?) as well? Kind of makes him seem like a hypocrite in retrospect.
  14. Wow, hard to believe any team could be so irresponsible with their ace pitcher, especially one they were potentially looking to trade soon.
  15. Crew07 makes some good points...but I guess I should have clarified that I was referring more to some mid-tier or lower level prospects, which I'd be more than willing to give up, even if it does take away some depth (but not all of it). I can't see Melvin trading an Escobar or Gamel for a half season of a pitcher at this point, Erik Bedard or not.
  16. So will they finally take down the Sammy flag at Wrigley now?
  17. Yeah...and I've heard the current CBA includes a provision for implementing a worldwide draft, so I don't know why Selig doesn't just go ahead and do it, and level the playing field a bit.
  18. Hahaha...I didn't see the replay, but that's pretty funny, but sad at the same time.
  19. Maybe it's a sign. Maybe Case McGehee is "The One" who will bring us back to the World Series!
  20. You're missing the obvious trade...Haudricourt to MLB Network for Trenni. (Someone was going to say it).
  21. If we make the playoffs again this season because of acquiring a guy like Bedard, I wouldn't really care too much how it looks in 2-3 years. One of the selling points on loading up the system with prospects was that we could trade some of them for positions of need. Right now starting pitching is a definite position of need for the Brewers. Plus, while Jack Z might be able to pick up the odd nugget that ends up being good, I can't see Melvin getting "fleeced" by anyone, former scouting director or not.
  22. I just don't see how the position of the sun should have an impact of the game. I get what you're saying, but one could argue that temperature, wind, and elevation above sea level shouldn't have an impact either. I mean, outfielders have had problems for years and years losing balls in the sun...so why shouldn't hitters or pitchers be helped or hurt by it either?
